“Gerald's walking group trip to Thors Cave (& a return visit to the pub).”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

The landlord Ian reserved the attractive Events/ Sun Lounge exclusively for our group of 20+ for their meals, drinks & our own quiz. He said the dogs that had accompanied their owners on the walk would be no problem. The interesting ceramics & paintings on display caught the eye of one or two younger members of the group in particular. The real fire & the outdoor area added appeal. Ian, Judy (one of the chef's) & the bar staff were fully attentive to our needs. The soup had been recommended to me by friends & on tasting it I knew why - it really was both delicious & substantial. With Ian keen on his real ales - having previously brewed his own - the Wadswoth 6X I had was well kept. Everyone had a good time. I'd booked for a family meal on Mothering Sunday & again on arrival we were well looked after. The family were complimentary about their starters, the excellent Rustic beef & Guinness casserole & gammon steak mains & the various desserts. Kim behind the bar seemed surprised I wanted to leave such a large tip....... me being from Yorkshire an' all........

“A wonderful pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

I visited the Royal Oak Inn and really enjoyed my time there. The pub has a really friendly feel and has a really good selection of food. The mixed grill was exceptional value for money and I highly recommend it! The staff were attentive and friendly and the new landlord, Ian, is really welcoming. To more!

“Traditional local”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

Recommended as a good local, with well kept beer. Although we were definitely visitors to the area, Ian the landlord was really welcoming. He's only been there a month and definitely deserves to succeed. Could do with more local beers, but said he's doing more to address that and is providing good local pub grub, etc. Didn't eat there but recommended it to others staying at our B&B and said it was exactly as expected and what they were after following an expensive meal at the George the night before.

“A Cosy Pub and a Satisfying Meal. "Full Marks"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

Just popped into The Royal Oak, Wetton, to meet the new owner Ian Lett and his team. Enjoyed a very satisfying meal, a well kept pint and a rather nice Pinot Grigio Rose. Only wish we'd had a long walk before our meal to do it even more justice. Next time we'll do the walk before toasting beside the fire. Make sure, if you are walking in the area, or simply out to discover more of the surrounding countryside, that you pop in and sample the delicious dishes at The Royal Oak. You will get a warm welcome from the new landlord Ian. We wish him the best of fortune with his new venture.

“Little Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

Lovely warm fire, helpful and friendly staff
This recently changed hands local village country pub was a great find while out on our country walk.It has well-kept ales and dogs are welcome.
Me my husband and two children enjoyed the freshly prepared food. There was a good selection of snacks and meals for us to chose from and the children chose from the children s menu. If you're looking for a traditional English pub, go to the Royal Oak at Wetton.
