“Hospitality at its nicest!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2008

We stayed at The Rose and Crown at the end of March. When we arrived we were greeted by Danny who was very charming and nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was cosy and very comfortable and not too noisy. We had dinner every night whilst staying there. We found the staff to be very helpful and the food was out of this world! That also included the breakfast which set you up for the day.
During our stay we made vists to quite a few of the local beauty spots where the scenery was breathtaking, even for that time of year.
We will definately be returning in the near future.

I've stayed here a number of times and I have never failed to be impressed by the warmth and hospitality of the owners.

We were greeted on arrival by Henrietta and shown to our rooms, and then once settled, headed into the bar/restaurant for dinner.

The service was impeccable, and you don't feel hassled by the staff in anyway, they are attentive but you don't feel rushed and the food itself, cooked by Danny, is spectacular!!!

Located on the edge of the Peak District, there are walks in abundance, or it's your thing Alton Towers is just 15 minutes away, not yet experienced, but will certainly be heading back to try that one out!

We stayed at the rose and crown a few weeks ago and we really enjoyed our time there. The staff were friendly and pleasant and the food was exceptional. Danny and Henrietta were more than helpful in every way possible ( thanks to you henrietta for picking us up when we could not get a taxi from ashbourne). And to top all of that the weather was absoloutly boiling hot. We recommend anyone to stay there.

We have stayed with Danny & Henrietta on numerous occasions during our trips to Derbyshire. The Rose & Crown offers the best food around (we did look elsewhere before and during our visit) and has a nice relaxed atmosphere.

The rooms are quiet and comfortable, and the location couldn't be better if you want to nip into Ashbourne, go for long walks in the surrounding countryside, or a pint of Pedigree at the bar! We've not been, but Alton Towers is also around the corner virtually.

We'll be back.

We stayed for two nights on 4th and 5th May 2007 and we had a really pleasant stay. Although the bar/restuarant is closed during the day, we were met by Danny (proprietor) when we arrived and he personally saw us to our very comfortable room. We had a great meal on our first night - the food was exceptional - the prices were comparable to a decent bistro.

On our second day we went to Alton Towers - about 15 minutes drive away - Danny gave us a local route to get there which missed out all the traffic. By dinner that day we were wise and didn't have a starter to make room for a fantastic dessert and a local cheese platter which we shared.

Definately a great place to stay - hospitality is second-to-none and the bar is relaxing and the service good.

my husband and i stayed for two nights 30th dec-1st jan and were absolutely delighted with everything. the pub itself is unspoilt and as a pub shoud be, but the food! what can we say. danny should win the equivalent of an oscar for his cooking. everything from the sandwiches to venison is outstanding and i just wish i could cook bacon like danny does. will definitely be visiting again

A small country inn with a good write up on their own website. Room not very clean, dusty and loads of cobwebs, it said it had been recently refurbished but decor was a bit tatty. The dining room was closed the night we were there so unable to sample the food which looked very good on the menu, the bar area is very nice. Breakfast was lovely, especially the sausages!! Disappointing for the children as there was no choice of cereal just museli. Owners were very nice and welcoming. I would recommend it but feel the lack of cleanliness in the bedroom/ensuite let it down!
