“A lovely short break from the trials and tribulations of life.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2011

We had a lovely stay at the Crown Inn - the rooms was fine; the food was excellent, and the personal attention given by the Chef was lovely. This is an inn that has the cosy ambience you want on a dark, cold evening with real fires and comfy sofas.

Had a fantastic time, thank you very much, would love to return very soon.

I booked the Crown Inn mainly for its restaurant, which is listed in the 2007 Michelin Good Pub Guide. We'd eaten at quite a few of the pubs in the Guide so we trust it and needed somewhere that was nearish to Stoke-on-Trent (it's around 20-30 minutes away) for a family dinner. Looking at the pub's website it seemed that the rooms looked OK so we took the risk on that as we needed a couple of rooms for people to stay in after dinner.

As a B&B it turned out to be quite good. We booked one standard class and one superior class room (for £60 and £75 respectively) and this included breakfast in each case. The superior room has a bath/shower and the standard room a shower only. Each had tea/coffee making facilities and a TV. The rooms were clean and our superior room has a sofa and lots of space.

Dinner at the restaurant was as excellent as we had expected and the dinner bill for eleven people was £315, which we thought was very reasonable for the quality of the food. On a Saturday night, the pub and restaurant were buzzing and very busy, which I always interpret as a positive sign.

Breakfast was a good quality cooked English breakfast with decent quality bacon and sausages.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The Inn is located near to Alton Towers, so it would certainly make a good place to stay if you wanted to avoid the horribly commercial places that are on site there. It's also in quite close to a national park, so we spotted a couple of walkers staying at the Inn who seemed to enjoy the place too.

  • Liked — Great food in the restaurant
