Having joined the HHA as members three months ago my wife and I visited Casterne Hall whilst in the Peak District national Park and as described in Simon Jenkin's book,"Englands Thousand Best Houses" and considered to be one of the most beautiful houses in the area.
We had a tour of the house by the owner Charles Hunt (the hunt family have owned it since the 16th Century) who was very informative, helpful and friendly and we would recommend other visitors to see the house and the old stables.
The house had been featured in the movies :Jane Eyre (1983) Far from the Madding Crowd (1987) The Hound of The Baskervilles (1988) Jonathan Creek:Frog Hollow (1990).
To find the days it is open which is limited you can look at its own web site or HHA web site.
Whilst waiting for the Manor house to open (2.00) we had a light lunch that we found only 10 mins away at The Izaak Walton Hotel,Dovedale that was excellent
