“Gorgeous gateway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Kasbah Bab Ourika is a beautiful hotel, surrounded by stunning, mountainous landscape. It is not properly in the Atlas Mountains, so don't be too disappointed to find yourselves on the edge, as it is certainly the gateway - but a wonderful gateway nevertheless.

As with most luxury accommodation in Morocco, everybody staying here is Western - well, from the UK mainly, which might feel off-putting. However, it is private and calm and extremely serene.

Once over this cultural obstacle, the staff at Bab Ourika are attentive and very warm. Nothing is too much trouble and the atmosphere is down-to-earth and open. Little touches like a glass of home-made lemonade on arrival may sound cliched, but are conducted with grace and make each arrival feel special.

The gardens, pool and terraces are the reason to come here. The rooms are great too, but not quite to the same standard as the outside areas. This really shouldn't effect the enjoyment of your stay however, as you won't spend much time in them as you'll be looking for secret spots to sit and read, or gaze at the mountains and catch the sun.

Was here for a wedding last year and absolutely loved it. Wonderful rooms, good food and perfect service from Amanda and her team. Hope to be back one day soon to enjoy this beautiful valley from this perfect setting.

My husband and I got married at Kasbah ban Ourika in June 2013.

It was the most incredible wedding experience we could ever have hoped for. The building, grounds and views are breath-taking in every way. Snow capped mountains in-front of us, a stunning canyon to the left of us and a beautiful valley to the right of us.

Our guests were completely blown away - from the magical rose gardens, to the beautiful water features, the stunning lavender bushes to the perfect swimming pool.

But all of this would have faded into insignificance, for a wedding, if you didn't have the army of amazing staff. Led by Amanda the phenomenal manageress, the staff were ever attentive and on hand to help with every situation - even down to finding extra towels for the impromptu 7am skinning dipping we had after the wedding. Nothing was ever too much to ask Amanda - she simply, swiftly, efficiently dealt with every situation, demand and inconvenience with a smile and a brilliant 'that won't be a problem'.

I think we all left the wedding week - rather in awe of her mastery of every task she is ever given! She, and the staff made the wedding a complete joy - not just to experience but to organise as well. Being based in the UK organising a wedding abroad with no wedding planner could have been a nightmare - but it wasn't. And that's down to Amanda.

So, whether you are wanting a mind blowing wedding in paradise or a holiday - we couldn't recommend Kasbah ban Ourika highly enough. We've been there 4 times now and it never disappoints. The food is incredibly tasty, with most of the fresh veg grown in their own organic food garden, and very well priced. The alcohol is also good and well priced.

But what makes this place the idyll just 45 mins away from Marrakech airport, is the combination of the gorgeous building full of feminine touches like rose petals on the beds, own brand lavender bathroom products, slippers by the beds, straw hats on the bed loungers, coupled with the stunning views, lovely staff and gorgeous food. The perfect escape from city life and an amazing place to have a destination wedding that will create memories that will last you, and your guests, a lifetime!

Go, go, go, go. Please. Just go there.

Beautiful views that completely transport you out of yourself. It is like sitting on top of the world.
Food nothing extraordinary and despite being very busy, the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Would love to visit again!

Bab Ourika is an excellent jewel of a hotel on the the gateway to the Atlas mountains. An elegant retreat for a few days from busy Marrakech is ideal. A simple dinner menu with three main options exceeds expecations.Relax, sit back and drink mint tea watching the sun set.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our stay at 'KBO'. The first thing that strikes you when you arrive is the amazing setting, with lots of beautifully tended grounds, lots of tucked away lounging spots, a lovely pool (big enough for proper swimming)etc. the service was also excellent; Amanda and her team made sure we were always well fed and watered at all times.

Three things to mention

1. Food-wise its basically the hotel or nothing. The food is good but there is quite limited choice (three starters, three mains kind of thing). it is, unsurprisingly considering the spec of the hotel, not hugely cheap, but you can order a la carte and aren't forced to have All the courses every meal. Also the quality was very high, so this isn't a complaint just an observation.

2. Don't expect there to be a huge amount to do! There are walks they can arrange, and camel/horse riding, but beyond that its really a place to go to unwind and do nothing but swim , read and perhaps take photos. This isn't for everyone so again I thought I'd mention it!

3. No air con! Although having the windows open helps, it can be very hot at night in summer. Having said this there are portable fans in the rooms if you can stand the noise.

In conclusion, a lovely, romantic spot to unwind.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side get a glorious sun set.

Just stayed at the Kasbah Bab Ourika and I cannot say enough about this magical place. You'll just have to see the pictures I am posting to believe it. Though I knew the Atlas mountains were beautiful, this hotel and site exceeded my expectations. Absolutely lovely, the food is memorable and always delicious, the manager is beyond efficient, kind and charming. We entered our room with working fireplace and 2 (!) balconies to find it strewn with rose petals. Lovely amenities, HUGE bathroom with both bathtub and large shower, robes, artisan slippers. One of the loveliest rooms I've ever stayed in. Staff is so friendly and ready to help with anything you ask. Our only complaint was about the internet -- it's only available in the lobby, and even then, it's very spotty. We could do email, but that was it.

The grounds are so inviting, soothing, lovely. You can spend all day just swanning about and sitting down at all the little places they've placed chaises, chairs, beds, and tables. Great pool area. Views and sunsets to die for. Lots of walks and attractions to divert you. Our favorite was a day long drive and trek to the high Atlas mountains. It's a memory we will remember forever. We loved it so much we stayed an extra 2 days!

Room Tip: We had a marvelous room with 2 balconies, but we heard another couple complain about their room, whi...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Bab Ourika perches majestically on a hilltop at the apex of the Ourika Valley, guarding the gateway to the snow-capped Atlas Mountains – yet it is only 45 minutes from Marrakech’s International airport. With 360 degree panoramic views, this innovative new hotel receives warm sunlight all day, ending in spectacular sunsets. From its unique eyrie-like position it offers a birds eye view of the Atlas, of traditional Berber villages and of the lush river valley below. The Kasbah is one of the most eco-friendly hotels in Morocco; constructed principally from rammed earth, the traditional Berber building technique, it seems almost to have grown out of the rocks beneath. The thick walls provide such good insulation that air-conditioning is unnecessary. Solar panels provide hot water for the hotel and and the underfloor heating in the dining and bar area. Soon a biodigester will provide electricity and compost not only for the hotel but also for the village below. ... more   less
