“The Dorint/Steigenberger Airport Hotel Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

This hotel,is now a member of the Steigenberger German chain of high end service Hotels and just made a wonderful hotel even better with most of all the current staff remaining .I had the great pleasure of staying at this hotel in may and also September of this year ,two great times of the year to see Amsterdam. I must say that when booking my trip i re-booked this hotel ,because of its outstanding staff members from the 1st trip, And was happy to see that they were all still employed when i arrived . Not to many people can say that they stayed at 2-different Hotels in 1-week with out even leaving your room at all .I will explain ,when i arrived, the Hotel was the Dorint for a few nights, then the new ownership was launched while i was there, What a party and everybody was on the ball to make this place light up .From the new general manager ,to each and every employee that i had the great pleasure of their amazing service and top class attitude . This Hotel is on the high end of the 4-star zone it could be 5-star in many people's eyes . Both my visits were for 6-nights and they were both for solo bucket-list bike purchases in Amsterdam ,both times the bikes were delivered to the Hotel and the staff were out of this world. .Steigenberger Airport Hotel Amsterdam will be my Hub. hotel for my Europe Travels. Thanks Again for making my bucket list work out so well. Great Spa- Amazing shuttle service and drivers-nice 24-hour Bar fantastic Burgers and fries-Clean rooms-lobby bar has such good treats served with any hot drink you order -fresh fruit always around in bowls -candies as well-just a step up and away from the action ,stress release type of place ,this is where the Airlines staff like to stay and i agree with them. If your going to Amsterdam don't be fooled in thinking you have to stay were all the action is ,branch out this is the best airport hotel i have ever stayed in hands down and if this new group of Steigenberger Hotels runs this place the way they took it over and keeps the amazing staff. it will always be a hidden gem close to the airport .P.S the grand opening cakes on the front desk were so good .roses in the rooms for everybody and all the little things in the room .The Old Dorint Hotel just got better /Steigenberger Airport Hotel Amsterdam perfect value big bang for the buck and no i don't work there this is a true review from the heart thanks again. Howard from Richmond Hill Ontario Canada.

Room Tip: No bad rooms even the cheapest room is amazing.

Stayed at this Dorint/Steigenberger hotel several nights in sept 2012. Free shuttle bus service to and from Schiphol Airport every 30mins (10min drive). Large and quite rooms. At one point I made a special request (early gym access); at the reception I was assured this was not a problem but the next (early) morning I got another answer from the "grumpy night guy" - so I was a bit disappointed in their internal disorganization and made a complaint - but management did take the opportunity to set it right so overall my stay there was a positive experience. people are not perfect, hotels are not perfect, but you can go a long way with people who give it their best effort. Last but not least; this place has an EXCELLENT BREAKFAST BUFFET.

This hotel used to be a Dorint hotel, now part of the Steigenberger group (to be honest, never heard of them before, but seem to be famous in Germany).
The transformation is "german style", no trace whatsoever to be found to a reference to Dorint. Logo's changed everywhere, new soap, new shampoo, new slippers, new everything that could point to Dorint.
Service so far is still of the same good quality as with Dorint, to some extent not surprisingly because they took over quite some of the personnel.
What they didn't take over unfortunately are the customer data and his/her credentials. So check-in feels a bit cumbersome having been there for tens of times, having a front-desk lady who has registered me for a certain amount of times, but still have to note all of my data (address, and stuff like that). On top, forget about getting the same level of frequent traveller that you had with Dorint (and thus the traditional free candy/mints/water/room upgrade/etc.
Also missing the Nespresso machine in the room.
Understandable, but a missed opportunity.
On the hotel itself, I never used it as an airport hotel, but as business hotel. It is close to the airport, but the wrong side, but there seems to be a frequent shuttle bus. It is rather far from the city center, but there is (less frequent) shuttle as well, so most people use the airport shuttle and take the train there (or take a taxi)
What is still maintained, is the possibility to use a hotel bike. Very convenient to go to the office (not uncommon in Amsterdam, and weather allowing) or go to the city center (through the Amsterdamse Bos - which is a green area, not really a bush or wood, but worthwhile the trip, no cars in the park, and all flat, apart from crossing a bridge here and there).
Fitness area is excellent, including pool (small, but still), sauna (x2), steambath, and relaxing area.
Restaurant Nadar of very good quality (limited choice, not cheap but excellent food - used to be an Italian chef when still Dorint), and sports bar (nothing special and probably the same in all hotels around the globe)

In summary, ideal for me as business hotel, stayed there with my wife before and we used the hotel bikes to go downtown. You may find same quality in the center of Amsterdam, but probably more expensive.

Just outside the Arrivals area of Schipol we found the free shuttle bus. A quick ride delivered us to the hotel which was staffed by extremely helpful people. We dropped off the luggage and immediately took the shuttle back to the airport where we got the train to the city. Smooth as silk! For a one night stay, complete with a bountiful breakfast, you can not beat this hotel!

The hotel is clean and nice however I got a double bed instead of a king bed and it is not so close to the airport. It is quite a bit away! the shuttle only runs every 30 minutes and watch out because it does not necessarily stop where the designated stop is, might stop further back, depending on the number of other shuttles in the stop.
If you are not in a hurry and want to some peace you will love it here, if you are in a hurry not so much.

Great choice for a hotel close to Schiphol airport. Very comfortable rooms, clean, large beds. A large study table as well. Bathrooms are well equipped. Free wi-fi. Shuttle to and from airport every 30 mins, and is about 30 mins from Dam Sq (About 40 Euros one-way taxi fare).

Competitively priced. Has an in-door pool & fitness center. Good choice of food.

This great hotel is for every business trip by far the best choice. The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Good beds, clean and spacious bathrooms. Nice is the Green Floor where all rooms and equipment is designed with compliance to durability and environment. Everything in the hotel gives you the feeling that it is designed with a certain logic. All facilities you need are available. Free and fast WiFi. Well isolated so no noises from take offs or the highway that passes by at close range. The staff is professional and friendly and very international orientated. Good restaurants, there are more, and a nice bar. Good P space in the garage with special ladies places close to the entrance. Airport departure hall to reach within a few minutes. Shuttle available.
