“Well connected to the airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2010

The A4 Schiphol is a hotel with a great location, providing easy access to the Schipol airport as well as to attractions such as the Keukenhof and Madurodam. The rooms are well appointed. Lobby is plush but the staff at the reception area have a relaxed approach to work. The restaurants are large and can accomodate large groups. The breakfast spread is very good. The hotel provides regular complimentary pickups and drops to the airport which is a very thoughtful initiative. Amsterdam is a little away but can be accessed by trains from the Schiphol. A very good hotel in the 4 star category.

We found the hotel very easily. With the free shuttle service to the airport, this hotel was the perfect solution for our travel needs. We were able to catch the train from the airport directly into Amsterdam central. The friendly staff made sure that we had secure parking for our motorcycles and the continental breakfast was fantastic. Although the hotel is very close to a major motorway and the main airport, we found it very quiet and were well rested.

I stayed here for one night as I was attending a meeting in one of the conference rooms. Staff were helpful and polite - I arrived very early (10am) expecting to store my luggage until my room was ready, but was allowed to check in right away. My room was large, with a balcony. The bathroom in particular was very nice - separate bath and shower, which you don't see too often.

The food was of good quality, and there was a lot of choice at the buffets for breakfast and for lunch.

The hotel seems to be in the middle of nowhere next to a motorway, so spending time in Amsterdam would take some planning. The free shuttle service to/from the airport seemed to work well.

I've stayed here a few times and felt it was a descent hotel. The front office staff, reception, is very good, I rated the hotel a 2 because of the people. The rooms are clean and comfortable. It has everything you need there, restaurant, bar etc. Its a little ways from the airport, main reason to stay here, so a little inconvenient and also if you need to take a shuttle off hours they charge €20, pricey considering you still take a hotel shuttle. All in all a good hotel except my last night stay, a Saturday night, they had a party for a wedding anniversary. I called reception told them I couldn’t sleep because the music was too load and was told nothing they could do, it ends at 2am. I spend about 3 month a year in hotels so this is not the first time for me with this issue but it is the first time the hotel has not offered to have them turn down the music. I was disappointed that a hotel that had put so much effort into having/training a good front desk staff had such disregard for their guest.

During the summer we booked this hotel based on feedback from my friends who visited earlier to Amsterdam.
Since we were travelling from Germany to Amsterdam, we prefer to took the hotel outside the city since it was very hectic to travel inside the city due to traffic, trams, etc.
This hotel is near to Airport. There is shuttle service from Airport for those who are coming to Airport Metro or Airport. The parking is free for first 24 hours.
Hotel area is very good.
Ambiance in hotel is very nice. Rooms are big and very neat and clean. You will find a big plasma TV in a room. 24 hours hot water supply is available. Security locker is available.
Regarding breakfast it is standard american breakfast with limited options. I did not liked it much compare to my any other hotel stay.
We were in hotel for night only and most of the day time we were out to explore the city.
The only problem is it is far from the city and Amsterdam is especially famous for the night life including red light area.
You will find an area where all the city information guide is present.
Related to the staff I need not have to interact with them much.
Overall the hotel is good.

We spent two nights at this hotel and couldn't have been more pleased. The shuttle to and from the airport worked well and was always on time. The location is excellent if catching a flight as it is 15 minutes from the airport .You can also catch the shuttle to the airport and then take a train into Amsterdam. There is a good restaurant at the hotel and another 7-8 restaurants within 40 meters of the hotel. The room was clean and the service was great. We had a quiet room and the pool was an added bonus. The buffet breakfast far exceeded our expectations as there was a wonderful variety and it all tasted so good.

People like to moan which is evident from some of the previous comments - IGNORE THEM. The rooms are well away from reception, as they are in most hotels of this size but they are large, comfortable, clean and quiet. We had no problems whatsoever with the shuttle on the 3 days we stayed, although we did ask at reception if we needed to book and were advised not unless we wanted to travel before 09:00. The shuttle runs exactly on time every 40 minutes and the trains into town are very frequent. The restaurant was excellent value and good food, although we understand that if you are there as a result of an airline delay your food choice is not so good. Breakfast is great and sets you up for the day.

The staff were all friendly and efficient and it was good to be able to swim in the evening, particularly having a 13 year old and an 11 year old with us.

There are a few minor gripes:

1} We were on the ground floor and there was a patio door to a paved area. The grass beyond the paving was strewn with cigarette butts. Would have been worse if it was summer and we had wanted to sit out at any time.

2} We would have liked a hospitality tray in the room for tea and coffee

3} A pet hate of ours is waste and we didn't like the fact that towels that had been hung to dry were swapped and even though the toiletries we had hadn't been used fresh supplies were left - not very environmentally friendly.

4} As a previous comment states, there were sometimes hints of smoke in the corridors.

We did find it amusing to have a no smoking sign in the room - in an ashtray!!

In summary the hotel is very good value and has no pretense at being anything other than described. In the unlikely event that we decide to have another holiday in Amsterdam we would definitely stay at the A4.
