“convenient stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2010

After staying 3 nights at the CitizenM in the city close to the Amsterdam Zuid station and for a short trip north to Vriesland I decided to stay at this airport hotel, because I really liked the other hotel here in Amsterdam. This is exactly the same and so convenient to just take a short walk to/from the airport in a couple of minutes. Confy but small and "trendy" rooms and all you need at a good rate. When back in Ams, I going to stay here again. Hope to see a Citizen M in many another locations in the future. Gr8!

Needed a hotel before catching a morning flight back home. This worked well. No need for taxi into city, rate was reasonable for Amsterdam. Free internet in the room.
Downside: Rooms are small, ok for 1 or close couple but shower, toilet are not very private (FYI). Internet kept disconnecting every 5-10 minutes.

My husband and I wanted to use Schipol as our base for a recent trip to the Netherlands because we were going to Amsterdam (North) and then to Voorschoten (South). Near the Airport/Train station was an important criteria for us. So, we booked at Citizen M. Boy, am I glad weI did. We got all the luxury amenities of a upperclass hotel without the upperclass price. Surprised at the superb service by the staff, the free high speed internet, free movies, moodpad (temp/lights), fabulous rainshower and sound-proof rooms considering it's right next to the Schipol runway! Just wish there were more CitizenM's around the world. I'll be back!

Iv'e always liked Buck Rogers and the world of the future and Citizen M certainly filled the bill. It had all the facilities of a more expensive hotel. With the automation all my needs were met such as the mood lighting, temperature, music, etc. I have never had such a nice relaxing shower as I had at Citizen M. and the HUGE bed was the highlight of my trip. I wish Citizen M was in Canada!!! I can hope can't I.

Firstly - the CitizenM has a great location (assuming that you have just got, or are about to get a flight to/from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport. It is within a few minutes walk of the terminal, under a covered walkway. I have stayed at some pretty dire airport hotel's whose good point is the location. Not so CitizenM. It's really like spending the night in an IKEA show room. You check yourself in and receive an RFID room key - yours to keep. The entire ground floor is full of first class trendy design. Settle down to watch a TV - in what could be your own living room (assuming you have good and very modern taste. Check out the internet on the provided Imac's - plus printer for anything you forgot.
Food and drink is largely self service - but good quality - sushi / sashimi, sandwiches and a bar guy for great looking cocktails.
The rooms are not huge - and the giant oversized beds fill the window end. The toilet and shower are enclosed in futuristic frosted glass pods, but take up minimum space, and there is a stand alone washbasin.
The room was spotless - as clean as you could ever want, and the mood pad fun to get to grips with. (at least i'll know next time.)
Modern, uber chic, and very very competitively priced. Really can't wait for my next visit to Schipol - and that isn't something i would have said two days ago.
Everything is well done, and as impersonal as you want to make it. There are a few staff on hand - and the one's i spoke to certainly seemed to have bought into the brand - and were well informed and helpful.
Great concept - hope to see more of them around the world.

Stayed for second time at this hotel. First time as Solo traveller in June 09 and it was Perfect !. This time in Jan 2010 was ok, but had several problems.
Location is just the best and easy to get a snack at Schiphol Airport. You can get to AH To Go and grap sandwich, salad, beer/wine and take to your room or eat in Airport, also train to A'dam Central is quick and convenient (15 min).
Hicups: First room we had had a sink that did not work. When going down to report this within 5 minutes of checking in (and taking all our lugagge with us), the person did not believe us and requested me to go back up and show him the problem. After he was convinced went back down again and got another room assigned which was next to the first room. When we got in we had no plastic cups and towels, actually my room key from first room still worked and got from there. After 1 hour, the moodpad was empty and it could not be recharged. When asking the hotel staff they mentioned this was a common problem and they would be replaced in a few months.....nothing they could do now. Problem was we could not change the Temperature in the room and it was very very hot.
The computer access in the lobby was excellent but if you want a coffee, be prepared to pay 7 euro's for a cup. Outrageous. Better go to airport and get supplies there and bring to your room (only 5 min walk).
The bed is nice but has no nightstand or shelf at one side which makes it difficult if both people like a glass of water at their bedside (it is flush against the window).
My spouse was a bit surprised regarding the shower and toilet being so in the open in the middle of the room with only a small glass sliding door around it, very little privacy.
I will stay again, because it is cheap and convenient location, but hope they change the moodpads so they actually work.

Dear Traveler009,

Thank you for sharing your experience on Trip Advisor. By reading that you have already been at citizenM previously, I assume then that it’s already known by you what to expect when coming as a solo traveler or with your partner. All our rooms are all identical, they were built off-site and shipped to the actual location of the hotel to guarantee quality, less environmental damage and cost, which is reflected in the nightly rate of 2 star hotels but with extras that only 4-5 stars have, and more. We created the concept for you to have more an experience other than a regular hotel stay, already offered by many other hotels out there. We believe in free wifi and free movies on demand, in contemporary vitra furniture and luxury for a price that mobile citizens can afford.

Ambassadors take care of all issues concerning your stay, from preparing a great coffee (our largest coffee costs 4,50€, and we also have small and medium sizes) to making sure you are having always the best stay. I tracked the issues you encountered with the Ambassadors and they apologize if they didn’t live up to your expectations. It’s not usual to have a sink that is not working, and their response was not reflected in the way they would like to be.

I’m happy to say that the Moodpads are already being upgraded to a newer version. We hope your next stay will be just as perfect as your first one, If not better.

If you would like to share anything else with us, please, just drop me an e-mail and I’ll be more than happy keep in touch.

All the best,
CitizenDiego

I stayed here one night before leaving schiphol airport by plane in the early morning. This is Value for money no noncense hotel on close walking distance from Shiphol airport terminal. Rooms (more a studio) are small but all needs at the room. Internet is free (althought wifi on room not very fast). Just the things you need. The bed is comfortable and all tv-chanels available, including 2 film-chanels. Breakfast is simple @ 9 Euro is croussant + buttor + orange juce + muesly-yogurt + fresh fruit + coffeethe only remark I can make is that there is no chair and burea-table to work with your laptop (had to do on the lap in bed); but it is also possible to go downstairs in lobby where lot of free internet pc's is available at desks (probably also fixed connection to your laptop). Would go here next time again in stead of other hotelbrands that is also available on the airport.
