“hip convenient hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

Positive points: Perfect location, only a few minutes walk from the airport. Small but smart layout of the rooms. Nice tech features as mood lighting, automatic window blinds, automatic check-in. Very pleasant for travelers to/from Schiphol, but also for tourists to Amsterdam that want to dodge the low quality/high price hotels in Amsterdam. Easy enough with the good connections to downtown Amsterdam from the airport terminal.
Negative points: Close to the airport so a bit pricey. Walk-in rates extremely high so make a reservation before you come. TV missing some channels and a bit slow, and no HD channels which would be applicable to a modern hotel.
All in all a hip, savvy hotel that's so friendly and atmospheric that it doesn't get "cold" or impersonal.

Room Tip: Choices are view of the airport or the other side. Rooms are well isolated so no noise in the rooms...

We had an overnight layover in Amsterdam & stayed here. We were exhausted but the room was so cool we ended up staying up late playing with the remote & all the light settings! An easy well lighted & covered walk from the airport! You should stay here just for the experience!! Loved it!!

Needed something close to the airport and did not feel like paying $500 at the Sheraton. CitizenM is a stone throw from the airport and very convenient. Even if you would go to Amsterdam which is about 15min by train and trains run all night (if I am not mistaken). When you come in you are greeted by a row of 6 monitors which handle your checkin. You make your own room key.. the rooms are cubicles, with pods containing your toilet and shower.. when the door are closed it is a tube. with the doors open the room becomes more spacious.. it's a bit of a struggle to have your luggage open, but with some effort it can all happen (just don't expect to be able to walk in your room after that. The bed is spacious and having the airport view is fun (city view just means non-airport view as there is not much city to be seen). Don't worry about the noise, I did not hear as much as a peep when I slept there (for 2 nights). A great choice just not something that will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Room Tip: Go for the airport view.. you'll appreciate it when you open the blinds

A Fantastic Hotel with excellent facilities and great friendly staff. Stayed one night as was changing flights at Amsterdam and didn't want the hassle of a hotel transfer service with 7 Large Suitcases, 7 Small Suitcases and two wheelchairs for a short night stop

Check-in was smooth via imac and friendly staff on hand assistance was offered and full facilities explained. We walked the 500m back to airport for dinner as was more snack based stuff at hotel and the same after checkout for Breakfast

Cabin style rooms with everything you need for a short stay, best shower i have had in many hotels and huge comfy bed

I shall look forward to my return visit and have become a huge fan of Citizen M Hotels!

It's a funk new concept hotel, totally interesting, comfortable and funny enough no noise at all in the room. I love the shower and I love the bed! I had a great sleep before heading home for 24 hours flights. The staffs are amazing, and so friendly and make you feel welcomed. At the bar they even call me by my first name, just down to earth. So close to Amsterdam airport, just less than 5 mints walk! At thing, room is small but you are not here for luxury, so don't be shocked if you like big rooms. I hoped the room has got tea and coffee making facilities but no.

Room Tip: Good bed, good pillow, and shower and a quiet room, and has to be clean

A fresh and cool concept....they do a lot of things right here. I was sharing a room with my good friend on our way back to Vancouver so not exactly ideal in terms of privacy and space. I would suggest having the frosted glass that is in the toilet area also be in the shower for more privacy or at the very least replace the sheer curtain that separates the sleeping area from the bathroom with a black out or privacy curtain. This would make the room more functional for two people if they aren't a couple.

Positives

Location - This hotel is literally a 2-3 minutes walk from the airport. This makes it very convenient if you have an early connecting flight the next morning. No further need to lug heavy suitcases onto a train to drag to a city centre hotel and to lug your suitcases back to the airport the next morning. This location is a definite time saver as it gives you extra sleeping time for those early morning starts.

Price - Very competitive pricing structure. The hotel charges by the room as opposed to price per person. Furthermore, by becoming a citizen you get a further discount on the price making what is already a cheap room even cheaper on the pocket.

Staff - On arrival you are met by friendly, cheerful and helpful staff who offered to assist us with our check in process which took no time at all. We were also able to request a top floor room with views over the airport at no inconvenience to the member of staff who assisted us.

Room - The room provided one of the most comfortable sleeps ever had. The bed is huge, you can stretch out and contort your body in any conceivable position without disturbing your sleeping partner. As well as for sleeping the bed is also the place where you will do the majority of your lounging. The headboard and sideboard around the bed are very comfortable an provide a useful area to place drinks on while relaxing watching one of the free movies on demand. Everything in the room is controlled by the remote control. That means the lights, the blinds, the music, the tv, the ambient mood of the room, the room temperature. There is a fantastic futuristic power rain shower which is enclosed in a treky style space capsule. Showergel is provided. The room has a small in room safe for your valuables as well as under the bed storage where you can store your cases or bags for your stay. The room is simple and clean and is soundproofed so you will not hear any outside noise despite staying next to the airport. There is free wi fi so that you are always connected.

Decor - The hotel decor is super cool and chic. Although the bedrooms are small you have plenty of living space on the ground floor to stretch out and relax, dine or work in according to your requirements. The living areas are varied in taste and style and are perfect if you want to simply relax and watch tv or if you are with a group to socialise. There is a fully stocked bar serving alcohol and food 24/7. Although the hotel has a no smoking policy you can always head outside and light up. Back indoors where you are faced with funky art work and some of the most comfortable chairs, sofas and couches for you to choose.

Negatives

Location - Not a very central location, yes very close to the airport but away from the action. However, you can easily catch a train from the airport to central Amsterdam and catch a taxi back to the hotel if you want a late night. Also there is a Citizen M located in central Amsterdam so you also have the choice to book into this hotel if you want to be more central.

Room - Rooms are small so you have to get on well with your partner as there is no room to hide away. The toilet, shower and wash basin are all in the same room, there is no separate bathroom to hide away and beautify yourself. If you require privacy in the beautification process or have questionable bodily functions or are body dysmorphic in any way then i suggest you book separate rooms.

Time - i would recommend staying here for 1-3 days at the most. Any longer than three days there is a distinct possibility you would go stir crazy due to the lack of bedroom space.

Conclusion - 4 stars given as this hotel oozes luxury at an affordable price.

Room Tip: Bring your own shower cap as none is provided. Pack an overnight bag or have access to one suitcas...
