“Not for a business traveller”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

My usual hotel at Schiphol was full so I thought I'd try something different...and it was. Self-checkin worked ok but does not feel very welcoming. Got a small shock entering my room, coming through the door you step straight into the shower/wc/hall combined and then the bed is right after that, head against one wall and feet touching the other side. A bit like a (small) ferry cabin on the 3d deck below. The room feels like a shoebox.

I had to do some work but the wifi was so slow I could read a book in between the web pages loading...very frustrating. In the mean while enjoyed noises from neighbours.

I guess it would be fine for travelling single on vacation and on a short night stop, but at 160 euro w breakfast it's overpriced for what you get.

On the plus side, walking distance from the airport terminal, bed was comfortable and breakfast good.

I'll hope be back to my normal hotel next time when on business at Schiphol, will not stay at CitizenM again.

Room Tip: Don't plan to stay more than 1 person per room

Hi "Martin334",

Our apologies about your experience here, it was certainly not the one we aim to provide.

Like you mentioned, the room is indeed small. We focussed on being functional just a like a private jet or yacht cabin, having a great bed and shower, and we promote as such with pictures and information. On the other hand, we promise a free-fast-reliable Wi-Fi, which did not work as expected during your stay. We have had a few issues in the past week, which we already solved.

If you feel we deserve another chance, please write me directly at citizendiego@citizenm.com as I will really like to make it up for you, providing a full citizenM experience.

Wish you safe travels,
citizenDiego

Everyone should stay in a place like this at least once in their life. But, fair warning, it will spoil you for every other hotel. Every other hotel will seem OLD when compared to the Citizen M at Schiphol Airport. It is so cool and so ultra modern and spotlessly clean. I was convinced that I was the first person who had ever stayed in the room I was in because everything looked brand new, as if it had never been used. I had asked for (and was given) a room on a high floor, facing the aiport, because I wanted to be able to watch the planes landing and taking off. It was great. And, in case you're wondering, there was no airplane noise. I'm old and not the least bit tech savvy, so I had to call the receptionist to find out how to operate the touch-screen remote that controlled everything in the room (lights, shade, blinds, television, alarm clock). But once I figured it out I loved it. Using a push-button remote is so 2010. The shower pod (as in "Beam me up, Scotty") was fantastic. Giant rainfall shower head (that actually had water pressure) and also a hand-held unit. The water won't come on unless the pod doors are shut tight. Unlike a regular old-fashioned shower, you can't adjust the water temperature and then get into the shower. You have to be in the shower and then shut the doors. So I would suggest you divert the water to the hand-held unit and have it facing away from you, turn it on, adjust the temperature, then you can switch to the rainfall unit. I know taking long showers wastes a lot of water; but, trust me, you won't want to get out. I think the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The dinning area on the ground floor had plenty of choices, hot and cold. You pick out what you want from the coolers. They will heat it up for you. You can eat it there or bring it up to your room. I got the lasagna and it was delicious. There are at least half a dozen computers on the ground floor in case you don't travel with a laptop. There are over 80 channels on the TV. The hotel is about 200 yards from the terminal (exit at the rental car area and turn right). You walk under a covered sidwalk so even if it's raining it's not a problem. You can take a luggage cart and park it right outside the hotel and pick one up the next morning to get back to the terminal. It's nice not to have to call for a shuttle and wait and wait, then call again and wait some more. The staff was so helpful and so pleasant. I was so sorry I was there for only one night on a 12-hour layover. I'm going to have to come up with an excuse to go to Amsterdam just so I can stay at the Citizen M again.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing the terminal just to see all the airplane action.

CitizenM hotel is adjacent to the terminal at Schiphol airport. It is delightfully designed, and the rooms clean, very modern and extremely comfortable. The rooms have all mod cons, and the washing facilities are excellent. There are large terminal TV's in the room, which allow you to control the light effects, TV program and alarm. The beds large, and very comfortable.
Check in is unfussy, and done by a computer terminal. There are staff standing by to help should that be necessary. Check out is equally unfussy - and quick and easy. Again, staff are easily at hand should they be necessary.
Breakfast was good, and quick.
A delightful hotel.

Incredibly convenient to Schipol Amsterdam Airport, citizenM offers comfortable rooms for the In Transit flyer, either arriving Amsterdam or Departing. Trendy Lounges with Apple Mac Lounge with plenty of Macs, Cool Libraries with Flat Screen TVs and Sofa and sitting areas to gather and relax. Rooms are not as spacious as one would be used to, but this is not a destination Hotel, it is one to relax as you start or continue your global adventuring. Coolest rooms when it comes to amenities, including the shower area right out of a Sci Fi movie! Love that Shower!!

Probably not for families but certainly for travelers seeking something out of the ordinary at an incredible value. And when I say value, it is by no means less than a 4 star experience, especially Service, Amentities, Setting and Style. If you have lots of luggage, room will be scarce so leave the big pieces with reception, take what you need to the room and relax. Very modern all in one computerized room entertainment system. Can be a bit daunting, but staff extremely helpful. If you arrive after an all night flight to Schipol, stay here first, get refreshed and rested, take train in to AMS for 4,40 Euro. Then start your journey/vacation in Holland. We need this brand in the US at airports! Also one in Amsterdam City, but again, if you are loaded with luggage and want to make it a longer stay, keep mind that the room is not for huge cases, just you. Enjoy

Room Tip: At Schipol, Airport views offer a better view and more private as buildings and the big costly hotel...

Excellent location (just 3 min walk from the airport) and design, staff very friendly. Breakfast is OK, could benefit from a larger choice - it seems that the same selection is on offer 24h (maybe somebody eats sushi for breakfast...). Rooms are very, very small - you get your own cubicle, not more than 20m2, with two glass tubes inside - one is toilet and another is shower, with a sink just next to the bed (which is comfortable and nice). Only three hangers by the door - no need to unpack. Windows do not open but instead you can 'play' with a very smart remote to control almost everything in the room. You have to do your own check-in and check-out, though the help is at hand.

Not for traditional travelers, although a great base for exploring A'dam and other nearby cities through excellent rail links from the airport. One night is OK.

This room cost just over one-third of the price of a room at the nearby Hilton or Sheraton at Schiphol Airport, but would probably suffice for most people.

Firstly - location. Its a short 100m walk to terminal 3, where all the transcontinental flights arrive and depart. Plus luggage trolleys are thoughtfully available just outside the hotel. The airport terminal has enough shops and restaurants for satisfy most shoppers, and the supermarket had a really good range of groceries. Right in the middle of the airport terminal is the train station, to connect to the rest of the Netherlands.

Check-in is via a self-check-in computer, but for those not so technologically inclined, there are helpful staff on standby to make this painless.

There's no bellboy service or room service, which you'd expect in a more luxurious hotel. Instead, there's a cafe at the ground floor with sandwiches, sushi and various munchies to sate your appetite. More filling meals can be bought at the nearby airport terminal ( Burger King and the like )

Room views - choose from views overlooking the airport runway, or the trade centre.

The rooms are compact, with the toilet and showers having their own glass enclosures, and the built-in bed against the window. There's a remote to control everything from the tv to climate control, the external blinds and lights. The rooms were clean, the bed large and comfortable, and overall this hotel was definitely worth the price.

Probably one of the most convenient airport hotels. Located just a few steps away from the terminal building. Check in/out is selfservice but staff is there to assist you. All staffmembers in this hotel were very friendly and showed sincere interest in their guests. The rooms are small but cosy, comfortable and offer all you need. Free WiFi, free movies on demand, a nice shower and a huge bed which was one of the best I ever experienced. Despite the location near the aiport there is asbslotely no noise from airplanes or highways in the direct surroundings. I really liked the rooms with it's moodlighting.
