“Delicious soup on a chilly fall day!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013 via mobile

Went to the Barley Room Pub after an afternoon of wine tasting. The French a Onion soup was amazing, very tasty with lots of Gruyere cheese. We also tried the different hamburgers which were also very tasty. Price was not bad and the atmosphere was cozy. Great way to end the wine tasting experience of the county.

“The Good The Bad and The Ugly”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Four of us ate dinner in the dining room at the Waring House. We were not guests in the Inn. On arrival we encountered a warren of rooms and hallways at the main entrance. No one to help or direct us. A server eventually saw us and in a perturbed tone said we were supposed to be further in. When we were finally seated we had a table on a cool night with two vents furiously blowing cold air on us. We asked to be seated elsewhere and this seemed to flummox the staff originally but the moved us efficiently in the end. So the food was good, my lamb was perfectly prepared, the feeling of hospitality at the start was bad, but the wine experience was ugly. The two women in our party ordered chardonnays from different local wineries. One was awful, one disgusting. We told our waiter, who was pleasant and efficient, he said it was garbage wine and he thought it should not be on the list. In wine country, we had tasted many glorious chardonnays in three days of touring, to offer such substandard wines by the glass is just amateurish. The wine by the glass offerings were uniformly mediocre, including the imports, it is baffling, no real thought given to this very important part of the PEC experience. Overall, unless you are a guest of the inn and have some package deal there are many better choices for dinner in the area. Better food and wine selections abound in PEC. The Waring House probably jumped the shark sometime in the 1980's.

Hello Mr./Mrs. McSmith,
I am so sorry that you did not enjoy your short stay with us, it is always sad to read a review like this, but it also helps us to improve with our services and product. I am surprised about your feedback about some of our local wines, we have made it a point to have many, many local wines on our menu and usually we get great reviews.
we do hope you will visit us again and hope that visit will be more enjoyable.

“Terrible Brunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

Wearing House is a perfect spot in Prince Edward County, we have had several really good meals there. However, this Sunday was just terrible. Our reservation was at 1.00 pm. We were told to sit anywhere we liked. The waitress then said "the buffet is over there". We ordered a bottle of Chablis, which arrived unchilled. The waitress said she would leave it on ice and be back. She did not return. The food was horribly picked over, with a choice from the almost non-existent salads, to barely warm eggs Benedict, soggy pasta and unidentifiable fish. There was also grey looking roast beef covered in brown guck. We overheard a wait staff say it was left over from a wedding the day before. We told the waitress, when she finally returned that it was disgusting and to bring the bill. The manager then appeared, apologized and offered to reverse the bill, which was appreciated. But, Waring House is known for its food, it even has a cooking school. For any chef to serve this rubbish for Brunch is inexcusable. A very disappointing visit.

“Cozy pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

My husband and I really loved the atmosphere and the food when we ate dinner in the Barley Room Pub section at Waring House Restaurant. We had a cozy corner table, with just the right amount of attention from our waitress, who took great care of us. The food was simply delicious, filled us right up with the perfect portion size.
