“A spacious, comfortable and welcoming home in a quiet setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2013

In September we were looking for a place to spend a night before a 50 km bike ride on the Sunday. We decided to go a little out of the way from the usual Picton/Wellington/Bloomfield areas and so we found this delightful B&B in Lake on the Mountain. Our hosts' home was spacious and clean and has obviously been well maintained, both in and out. The "out" part was especially impressive. The setting overlooks a bucolic view of the hinterland and the Bay of Quinte below, with little evidence of development across the reach. With such a quiet setting the view of the heavens was gorgeous Saturday evening. Our room was upstairs in a corner with a huge bathroom right outside our door. Waking up to the sun streaming in, we walked out our door onto the upstairs deck, which affords that great view looking east over the water. Vera and Harold warmly welcomed us for breakfast where we were served in their dining room a huge meal of a variety of tomatoes, fruit, yogurt, granola, bread and an omelet, all of it copious and delicious. I am keen to eat a lot, especially before a big bike ride, and I reluctantly had to leave behind some of Vera's tasty offerings. Harold and Vera have no end of entertaining stories about their eventful lives on both sides of the pond. We could have spent a lot more time just chatting and enjoying their company, but the road was calling. After retrieving our bikes that they kindly stored in their garage we parted knowing that we would certainly stay here again when in the neighborhood. Thank you Vera and Harold for a most pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Our corner room was nice and quiet and faced east. There is ample closet and drawer space. The dec...

We have just returned from our 2nd wonderful stay at Ard Macha. Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Harold and Vera and offered a cup of tea. Our room which was really a suite with 2 large chairs for relaxing, a very comfortable bed, separate bathroom and private entrance out to the deck with an amazing view across the beautiful Adolphus Reach. Breakfasts at Ard Macha are a gourmet delight as Vera loves to cook! Each morning we began with a variety of fruit, Greek yogurt and granola. This was followed by the most delicious and beautifully presented main course..blueberry pancakes and sausage one morning, mushroom omelette with stewed tomatoes and a variety of fresh, sliced heirloom tomatoes the second morning and individual vegetarian frittatas on our final morning. Vera also makes a delectable ratatouille which we had on a previous visit. A great B&B in a gorgeous setting with lovely hosts!
