“Friendly & Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

We enjoyed a summer sisters wine weekend in Prince Edward County and we chose Bells & Whistles as our home for 2 nights. I must admit we are typically hotel guests and so when we pulled up and Bill came out to greet us I thought he was another guest whose car I was blocking in. Very much my mistake....he and Debbie and their daughter (The Chef!) are just that nice. Their B&B is off a main road and we had no troubles using the directions from their website. I will say their B&B is great for Waupoos Winery but quite a distance from the majority of wineries and some dinner spots so not very central but a good location. The circular gravel drive ended at about 6 parking spots. The stairs up to the screened in porch are a bit short so be careful as you bring in your things but Bill certainly offered to help with that as well.

The home's decor is a bit dated but it suits the country feel and is comfortable. We were given a tour of the LR, kitchen, eating area, new deck and swimming pool. We were excited to also see a screened in gazebo, a firepit (boo on the fire ban) and Bill's chicken coop. Debbie had plenty of local attraction, restaurant, and activity materials and knowledge at hand and she even sells local soap from their foyer! I noticed DVDs in her office and that's a lovely service considering the cable is only on the LR TV and not in the guest rooms. Each room does have a DVD player though. Needless to say unless you have children with you or you visit in the winter you might not even touch the TV - we certainly didn't.

Our only issue and something we didn't ask about during our tour was security. Ask for a room key if you like. They can be provided as there are no safes in the room but we didn't ask. We would have been fine b/c we never expected our beds to be made but when we returned from being out our room door was wide open. It was for ventilation (some guests rooms were hot) but it left us feeling exposed as we had left some valuables in our room assuming no one was entering. Debbie later apologized after we mentioned this on our comment card upon check-out.

We stayed in the suite at the end of the hall in a Rejoice Suite. 1 Queen in the main room with an armchair, dresser, TV/DVD and large closet and 2 twin beds in the 2nd room with side tables, dresser, I think another TV. The twin room adjoined to the full bath. There was a door to the hallway but we locked it. The room was clean, the beds very comfortable, and the shower pressure great! We 3 ladies could have used a couple more hangers but we made due as it was only 2 nights. The A/C and the ceiling fans were cool enough for us and when we did get hot from being out we returned both days to a great pool. Easy to share with other guests as the deck is fairly large. It was quite refreshing!

I've left breakfast to the end of the review as my favourite! Not only is it lovely to have someone cook for you when you are normally the cook but it was the best part of our stay. OJ and coffee/tea at the ready, fresh fruit, yogurt and homemade granola (To Die For!) as the 1st course. You could eat this with a fresh pastry - day 1 was muffins and day 2 local turnovers - apple and cherry. As you are enjoying that maybe eggs any style, toast and bacon come your way or sour cream/honey belgian waffles with warm berry compote. OMG! I swear between our 2 great dinners in the area and these 2 breakfasts I gained at least 5 lbs. Sooo worth it though.

It was very interesting that we heard no other guests in this large home although we say people coming and going so we knew they had no vacancy. Also, the variety of guests (families from far and near, girl trips) was great. It was well worth the adventure out of the 'hotel box'. Well done Bells & Whistles!

Room Tip: Suite @ the right of the house had good ventilation during summer and if you keep the blinds down wh...

I can unreservedly recommend this B&B; it is simply outstanding. The rooms are spacious, the pool is big enough for a decent swim and the breakfasts are to die for: home-made bread, fresh eggs, lots of fruit and delicious pipling hot coffee. And kids feel very welcome. I was there with my daughter, her husband and my 2 and half year-old grandson, and we all felt at home the moment we were greeted.

But what made our stay truly special were the owners, Bill, Debbie and Lise. Nothing was too much trouble. They have a genuine interest in people and wanting their guests to go away satisfied. I can't say enough about their attitude. One fellow guest was tempted not to write a good review for fear that she would not be able to get a reservation next time. For our part, we are definitely returning.

We just got back from a wonderful stay at the Bells & Whistles Inn. It was everything we expected and then some! The beautiful country setting is such a lovely reprieve from the city. It was so nice to look on and listen to the peaceful sound of the bleating sheep from the neighbouring farm in the evening and morning. That is definitely something you don't get in the city! We travelled with two young teenagers - 14 and 16 and they never once complained of boredom! We spent the days exploring the area - fantastic Sandbanks beach and shopping, but in the evenings they enjoyed the WiFi, DVD player and the inground pool. We stayed in the Rejoice Suite which includes a tv in each room so the kids can watch their own movie and the parents theirs, which worked perfectly for our family! Our suite was spotlessly clean and fresh with nice country quilts on the beds, with its own ensuite bathroom. And the breakfasts - wow! We cannot say enough about how delicious the home cooked food was. From the homemade granola to the home baked pastries and cinnamon buns, to the country fresh eggs, the hollandaise sauce, the pancakes...mmmmmmmm. Truly the best. And you can buy some of the homemade jams and local honey to bring back home with you. The hosts Debbie, Bill and Lise are super hospitable and friendly, always checking to ensure their guests are having a great time. Coffee and tea are always available to make and enjoy on the verandah, by the pool or in your own room. We highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to stay in this area. Don't look any further than the Bells & Whistles Inn. You'll be glad you stayed! :) Two thumbs up, or in the case of our family, eight thumbs up!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Rejoice Suite which allowed a beautiful cross breeze to flow through the two rooms in...

This is a fabulous B&B located off the beaten path. The Retreat Room was the perfect size, cleanliness, and comfort for 5 old friends to reunite for the weekend. The pool was refreshing and the farm fresh egg were amazing.

It was a real treat to eat such wonderful food on the outdoor screened in porch. And the maple granola is a must try. In fact, it should be packaged and sold to the guests - it would make millions! :)

Debbie was full of wonderful advice and suggestions as to where to go and what to see. And they were all A1.

Thank you Debbie, Lise, and Bill for a fantastic weekend. You made us feel like family with your hospitality.

My family and I have just returned from a weekend spent at the Bells and Whistle Family Inn, It is a fantastic place with a great Family atmosphere, it was like being welcomed to a family members home. Our only regret is we spent too much time away from the Inn and did not make use of all the amenities made available by Debbie, Bill and Lise. It was no trouble when i needed to be accommodated for a dietary need and the children loved being taken into the Chicken Coop and the view of the nearby farmers fields and animals. We will definately be returning to this Inn in the Future. i read all the previous reviews and it is so hard to say something new as its all been said before, and each review is spot on, for the experience you will receive from this lovely family.

This was an excellent place to stay. Debbie, Bill and Lise were so friendly, so helpful. The suite that my 4 girlfriends and I shared had tons of space. The food was excellent, we ate a relaxing breakfast on the screened in front porch each morning. It was great to cool off in the pool and sit on the deck and chat. All recommendations for things to see and do were perfect.

New owners took over last year. The quality of rooms were excellent. Good beds and pillows. There were TVs in all rooms and a wide selection of movies on-site are available. Our rooms were connected. The bathrooms were new and clean. The brunch provide was filling and excellent - cold breakfast followed by a hot breakfast (and I love breakfasts!). There is a pool, great for kids and chickens which are very tame.
