“Clean, clean, clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

This hotel was spotless, partly due I'm sure to the fact that the charming owner makes everyone take their shoes off and leave them at the door! This is good value for the money in this area. The rooms are small but functional. The bathrooms and showers are shared (like a dormitory), but also very clean. There is no soap or shampoo provided so be sure to bring your own. There is a small electric water pot and instant coffee. The owner is very personable and was very careful to make sure everyone was comfortable. We had a very quiet night's sleep! Our shoes were still there in the morning!

One of the cheapest places in town--and pretty nice. It is a historic building, but remodeled on the inside. You are welcomed by a long-time Canadian originally from Germany. With a smile, he asks you to take off your shoes at the door and show you around (before you even decide to stay!). It was a very simple room--no fancy bedspreads or wall hangings, but everything was clean (no pets!). The bathrooms are separated by male/female, but have multiple stalls, and were immaculately kept. Because the bathrooms were consolidated, the rooms were very quiet. Internet worked great.

Overall, a great stay with a friendly host (we had an enjoyable time talking for many minutes).

The Air Force Lodge is vintage 1942, run like the lodge was for Air Force Officers by a charming German gentleman who will make you forget your electronic doodads. "Take your shoes off at the door, or vow to scrub the very clean floors." Wander thru the free sign post forest. Go to the Northern Lights panoramic movie theatre. This tiny town has a lot to offer.

Room Tip: No bad rooms. Somewhat like a dorm, because it is like 1942 Air Force barracks (with marvelous eco u...

We stayed here for one night and where surprised in a good way. The place is spotlessly clean, you'll find a very friendly and helpful host and a nicely made Air Force Lodge. The rooms are not very big but big enough. We can absolutely recommend this place.

If it's summer time, there is a nice campsite just north of town that I would recommend over the hotels in Watson Lake. But this place is nice... picture small dorm-style rooms, communal bathrooms and showers down the hall. If you've ever worked remote camp jobs you'll know exacly what this is like (but without the buffet cafeteria, as there is no food here). Basics are covered, clean rooms with single or double beds, small TVs and a little desk. The owner is as friendly as they come and his enthusiasm is infectious, take the time to chat with him. The place does well to retain the old 1940s nostalgia from when it was built. It's an old place, so be warned: the sound transfer between rooms is pretty high. Road traffic noise is low but you may be next to a snorer.

We stayed one night in dusty, little Watson Lake on our way down the Alcan Highway. Air Force Lodge has a great atmosphere and is interesting because of its history as an RCAF barracks. Mike, the owner, is a helpful host. There are no en suite rooms but the shared facilities are beautifully kept.

The Lodge is more like a hostel than a hotel, but it is a good place to rest. It is spotlessly clean. One must remove shoes before entering, but that's okay as it helps keep the place clean. The bathrooms and showers are down the hall, separate showers and bathrooms for men and women. All are spotlessly clean. There is TV. Wifi was excellent. The walls are thin and I could hear someone snoring at night but not badly enough to keep me awake.
The proprietor was very friendly. There is no breakfast but good fresh coffee is available to go which was very appreciated.
If bathrooms were ensuite I would have given this place an excellent rating.
