We spent almost a week at Snug Harbour Inn, and instead of getting tired of it, it was really hard to leave! The Inn is immaculate and beautifully furnished; comfortable and classy. The extras are well thought out: a hot tub on the deck overlooking the ocean, coffee always available, home-made cakes each day out for your picking, binocculors in each room so you can use during your stay there to spot eagles and wildlife, wheelchair accessible, and plenty of free parking.
The hosts Drew and Sue, are friendly and very accommodating, with a love of the wilderness and lots of suggestions for things to do! Yet they still have just enough of Toronto's city edge in their wit and humor! Did I say that breakfast is tasty, full, hot, varied, and amended to your dietary needs?! Interestingly, it was the breakfast chats with other guests that became a true high point of our days! Alternately there were several older anniversary couples (us too) and then the trend would naturally swing to mostly young honeymooners! And everyone was from all over: Germany, California, Alberta, New York (us), and United Kingdom. What a special gathering each morning turned into!...seems Ucluelet is a natural selector of friendly travelers. The women who clean the rooms are sweet and fun to get to know too, since they seem more a part of the family than 'employee'. But mostly, this is a GORGEOUS part of the world, not yet spoiled by man, and there is lots to do and see. The Pacific Rim National Park is practically right outside the Inn and the hikes are lovely (not too strenuous, believe me, I am not a hiker!) and well marked with plenty of information about the surroundings. We really learned a lot about the forest and the wildlife. We saw countless eagles, which is a life changing event; and we saw a couple of bears too! The town boasts some great food and the most wonderful teeny tiny aquarium. Life slows down in Ucluelet, and the beauty there intensifies the senses. Not to be missed! Enjoy! Say "hi" for us!
