“Dinner in the lounge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

The food here was excellent, healthy portions. Friend had sushi and she said it was the best she had ever had. Staff was friendly. Cheaper eating in the lounge than the restaurant and beautiful view as well.

I know this is for the resort but could not find their lounge or restaurant on trip advisor. If you're staying in the resort these restaurants are a great place to eat.

Stunning views and great service! We stayed in for two of the three nights, cooked lovely meals, drank some wine and enjoyed the breathtaking views in front of the fireplace! A highlight of our trip! Walk the trail is a must ... Aussies Abroad!

Room Tip: Its all about the ocean views!

We only popped in for lunch as it was recommended by a lady in town but we were blown away. This beautiful restaurant has a spectacular view, lovely staff and delicious food. Can't wait to go back and actually stay here because it look fabulous!

We stayed at Blackrock for a 4 days. We live in Italy most of the year. So this was our first visit to Ucluelet. The hotel was a perfect base to discover this area of Vancouver Island. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The staff are helpful and friendly. The location is ideal for hiking. Our stay was especially pleasant as we were upgraded to a suite with a wonderful view of the beach.

BLACK ROCK OCEANFRONT RESORT – VANCOUVER ISLAND

Between Ucluelet (U-clue-let) and Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island lies a treasure trove of places to go and things to do. The brightest diamond in this trove is Black Rock Oceanfront Resort where one can live and dine in luxury while enjoying magnificent sea-shore vistas from your room or tackle one of a plethora of outdoor activities. Here one can witness and/or encounter dangerous wildlife, exciting to dangerous waves and surf, the amazing Long Beach and a multitude of recreational opportunities. When not pursuing these activities a life of luxury awaits you at the Black Rock.

To get there take B.C. Highway 4 west from Parkesville for about 150 km; the 100 or so km west from Port Alberni is through scenic, low mountain ridges and valleys with many curves and hills requiring attentive, skilful driving. Highway 4 comes to a “T” junction at the west end; 8 km to the south is Ucluelet and 36 km to the north is Tofino. The zone between these two points contains the incomparable Long Beach, much of which is within a National Park. Drive southerly on Peninsula Road to 596 Marine Drive to get to Black Rock where your life of luxury and activity will begin. The resort offers every possible luxury with 71 lodge suites and 62 beach suites; a pool and hot tubs; a fitness centre; a spa (Drift Spa); excellent dining in the Fetch Restaurant ( the Jambalaya was my favourite dish) and relaxation in the Float Lounge.

The suites themselves are well appointed and luxurious. Staff is friendly, well trained and competent.

A myriad of recreational activities is available to visitors in this area where the rainforest meets the sea with crashing surf and dangerous waves up to 20 feet high which slam into the rocky or sandy shore. Surfing is a popular activity but dangerous waves and rip-currents demand caution; alternatively sand beaches provide for beach activities. Hiking and biking are two favourite land based activities with numerous trails to explore; rental bikes are available in the area. Bird watching, bear watching boat excursions and whale watching (whaling) excursions are popular activities as is fishing for salmon and other species as the season requires. Trips from Ucluelet to Tofino provide for a plethora of recreational and dining opportunities. Golfing opportunities are numerous.

As Vancouver Island is within an active seismic zone, the threat of earthquakes or tsunami is ever present. The road from Ucluelet to Tofino has marked zones of tsunami susceptibility for the traveler’s information. Black Rock suites contain a well written one-page “Earthquake and Tsunami Evacuation Plan” which should be thoroughly read upon arrival.

In a nutshell, the Black Rock Oceanfront Resort provides terrific accommodation in a rugged setting with innumerable recreation opportunities and luxury living – don’t miss it.
The no smoking on the property policy surely gives Black Rock a six-star rating!

This past weekend we stayed at Blackrock for the first time and we will be back! I was a bit skeptical that the resort would be as lovely as it was, but it far exceeded my expectations. We stayed in a trail suite steps to the beach. The view was amazing - the design of the room to maximize the view was spectacular. We dined at both Fetch and the float lounge and the menus were varied with many gluten free options. The food was delicious!! The staff from front desk to servers in the restaurant in the lounge were warm, friendly, and gave great service. Can't wait to go back!

Staff is super friendly and very attentive. The room was amazing with a spectacular view. Can't wait for our next stay! You must try the seafood chowder and a beer in the lounge.

The spa is blissful!!
