“Relaxed and Unwound”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

My colleague and I were looking for a good meal and some pleasant conversation and the restaurant at Discovery Lodge filled the bill. After ordering just one glass of a nice red, I ordered a steak with some trepidation, but although it may have been a tad on the thin side, it was tender, and the veggies were fresh and flavourful. My colleague ordered a herbal tea with honey and then a chicken dish she was happy with. My bill for the wine and the steak, with a tip, was a bit over $70. Service was efficient and pleasant, and we had a lot of fun.

“Always pleased dining at The Discovery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

First off, this is Iqaluit. Fine dining is tough to find, and you will always be paying fine-dining prices. Just look out the window and see where you are, puts things in perspective. My VALUE rating is low not because this place is any more expensive than others, but meals in Iqaluit are expensive and needs to be made clear to visitors.

The Discovery probably does it better than anyone else in Iqaluit. The room is comfortable, well decorated, and the ambiance is nice morning till evening. Serving staff is the best in town, they know what they are doing and how to do it!!! Never had to wait for a meal, and I've eaten here many times.

The menu is always varied, and there is something for everyone. Supper is my favorite meal here, as they go the extra to mix traditional southern meals with more than enough "arctic" fare for the uninitiated. Steak, chicken, pork, pasta, etc are there, as well as Arctic Char, Muskox, Caribou, and others which just adds to the visitors experience. You're in the arctic, why not try Caribou, or Muskox for that matter.

Very good, reasonably priced wine list. Soup and salad bar are there as well. Full bar service. Small groups of 2 or 4 should have no problem, but anything bigger should be reserving. Room doubles as a conference/meeting room, as well as a private room for parties.

If you want a good meal, served by an excellent staff, look no further than the Discovery.

“Disappointing food but nice ambience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012 via mobile

The room is lovely. The service is good. And they try to provide a different class of food than elsewhere in town. But the quality just isn't there. I had a steak that was mostly gristle and otherwise tired vegetables. In fairness the salad was nice and others raved about the lamb. But for me it was twice the price of the other restaurants (literally) and no better food, perhaps worse. A disappointment.
