“Great service not so great food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

Went there for steak dinner the service was good and friendly, coffee was cold and the steak was TUFF, the vegetables were watery and over cooked the rice looked like it was cooked last week
But the Decor was country and charming....I would go back for burger, fries and a beer BUT NOT STEAK DINNER

Get together guys, people want quality food

“NOW CALLED "TEXAS GATE" . . . . YUMMY BURGERS - NICE DECK!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

Four of us ate lunch outside on the deck in the sunshine and all four of us thought the burgers were FABULOUS! Service was good and the beer was cold so what more can one ask for on a summer's day? PS: the restaurant is part of the old Rockyview Hotel and is now called the Texas Gate.

“Nice deck”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

It's a great place to eat outside, but the food seems to have suffered in the last year. Has not been the best in the last few visits.

“Disappointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2013

My husband and I decided to try the "Texas Gate" at its new location on first street in Cochrane.

The evening was warm and we had the choice to sit inside or outside. We decided to eat inside with two other diners. Perhaps this should have been a clue.

After receiving our menus we then were comprehensively ignored by the only waitress. The manager came over and re took the drinks order as it was taking so long.

My husband ordered a Burger and I ordered the Nachos.

While sitting, we saw a couple come in, wait to be served and then leave after being ignored by the waitress. There were three tables, ourselves being one of them so the staff were hardly pushed for time.

Our meal came out. The burger was ok, but far too many fries. The nachos were a small portion and burnt with minimal cheese. This was sent back.

After my husband finished his dinner, the nachos re appeared. Granted they were not burnt however the cheese again was minimal and once i took off a few on the top the lower nachos had raw cheese and filling on them. How can nachos be that hard to do?

This time the waitress did not emerge and ask how everything was. So, no re fills offered on drinks and an unsatisfactory meal.

I had to go home via the supermarket to actually have a decent dinner.

We will not be going to this restaurant again and would not recommend it to anyone.

“Cowboy food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

There are two kinds of steak in the world - both good, but completely different in concept. One is refined, perfectly marbled, carefully seared then finished in the oven - these are all about buttery meat, full of juice and bursting with flavour. The second is thrown on a fire, flipped and served. When these "cowboy" steaks are done right, there is a primordial pleasure that caused our ancestors to stop eating the Mammoth meat raw. The Canyon Rose serves the second type of steak - beautifully charred, richly crusted from the flames and delicious.

My first steak was a disaster, but chef served a second one that was the perfect Cowboy Steak. The veggies weren't great - undercooked and too few, but if you want a real MAN's steak - this is a great place to stop.
