“Comfy, friendly motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

Staff was friendly, helpful. Cute little town. We slept well. It was quiet. The main inconvenience was that there is no phone in the room. When i couldn't get onto the internet (altho I went down and got the password), i could not call and find out why. You have to go downstairs to the office for anything. In the future I would ask for the phone number and call them on my cell phone. I hadn't thought of it. We had an upstairs room (no elevator); don't know what downstairs rooms are like--they are less expensive. We had an electric fireplace which was nice to watch in the dark. Romantic. Warm wall to wall carpet. It had a very effective heater. It was so warm we opened windows and put on the fan (great fan), altho it was really cold outside. They had wood bar in the windows so you felt safe opening the window. We had a microwave and refrigerator and china mugs!! Extra blanket in drawer, because on the bed were just sheets and thin bedspread. No counter to spread out your cosmetics in bathroom, but overall the motel room seemed to be homey, well equipped, and attractive. We chose this for the location, which was so handy for where we went. There was plenty of parking. There was some inconvenience in that the office wasn't always open; a little sign saying would be back in 5 or 10 mins would be posted a lot. But, fortunately for us, they popped up soon when we were there. No breakfast at the motel, but can walk to good places. We would return.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms very nice, $10 more than downstairs. I don't know what downstairs rooms are like...

Dear 60750 World Traveler,
Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comments. I regret that you were inconvenienced by the lack of a phone in your room. When our property was renovated a few years ago, the owner decided to remove the room telephones since most guests were using their own mobile phones. We are very glad to hear that you slept well and that you found your room to be comfortable. It was good to know that you were pleased with our location. We definitely look forward to your next visit.
Warmest wishes,
Bree

The perfect place to stay when you need to catch an early morning ferry. Front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. They kindly offered the info that pretty much everything closes by 9p.m. In the small enclave that is Horseshoe Bay. Enough restaurant choices and the all of the usual coffee shops for that early caffeine fix. Quiet, cozy vibe in Horseshoe Bay Village. Bonus...free parking

Dear KLS1960:

Thank you for your great review and support. Our location is just perfect for a quiet night. Horseshoe Bay offers great scenery, a good choice of restaurants and is convenient for those who plan to sail on BC Ferries. We look forward to having you stay with us again.

Being that the Motel is right in the middle of the village I didnt know how well I would sleep for the night but it turned out to be very quiet and peacefull. A 2 minute walk to the BC Ferries terminal for foot passengers. If you are taking a vehicle on to BC ferries you will have to double back towards Vancouver for about 5-10 minutes worth of driving to loop back on to the Sea to Sky Highway because there is no other vehicle access directly to the Horseshoe Bay ferry termincal right from the village, even though you can see the ferry terminal from the hotel. Very close to the village for a nice walk or food and coffee shops. A great location to stay.

Room Tip: 2 stories to this motel but all would be quiet and similar.

Dear Dana888. Many thanks for your review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Horseshoe Bay is usually quite peaceful at night. Nice to know that you slept very well. We love that we are located just steps away from so many good restaurants and coffee shops as well as the BC Ferry Terminal. Thank you also for your description (for vehicles) on getting to the Ferry Terminal. As you know, it may sound complicated, but in fact, it is quite easy as long as enough time is set aside to make the loop. Thank you again for your comments. We hope to welcome you soon again. Best wishes,
Bree

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

I booked an overnight stay at the Horseshoe bay Motel with my family in July, given that we had an early morning sailing booked the following morning to Nanaimo BC.
Having read reports on the internet I was drawn to the reviews which mentioned the friendly, homely atmosphere and was not disappointed. I made the booking direct with the hotel, and re-confirmed again prior to leaving the UK at the beginning of July.
Upon arrival at Horseshoe Bay, the hotel was easy to find, and only a block back from the harbour front. We were greeted by the owners who quickly erased any doubts we had over the location and/or its amenities. This Motel is family run, and the accommodations (we had booked Superior rooms) were excellent. Yes this hotel does not have a pool or Gym, but what it does have is oodles of character. Both rooms had old fashioned period decor and furnishings, with a huge homely bed at the heart. The mock fireplaces added to the cosy feel, and the availability of an electric fire was welcome given the inclement weather during our stay. The exterior doors are fitted with anti-lockout handles, which are particularly useful when flitting between adjacent rooms, though we did have to ask "how do we lock the door" before retiring for the night.
The Motel does not provide breakfast, however there are a number of excellent eateries within a couple of minutes, from which you can get sustenance. Service is 'local', and the food likewise prepared and served. I always think that if the 'locals' eat there, then it can't be bad!
So far as 'nightlife' is concerned, the town does shutdown by early evening, but this only serves to ensure a peaceful night's sleep
One point of note, if you are going on the ferry, then allow a little time to get from the hotel to the point of embarkation. Although the ferry is a mere stone's throw from the motel, the drive to the 'Port' takes around 10mins, and involves a horseshoe drive towards the highway and back again before reaching the access gate.
If you are however going to Nanaimo or visaversa, I can highly recommend a stopover at this excellent facility, and many thanks to all for the attention afforded during our stay.

Room Tip: Book a Superior room, and settle into home!!

Stayed here on my 7 week road trip across Canada & the U.S.
After fighting traffic gridlock in downtown Vancouver that afternoon it was time to pull off the road and get a place for the night before taking the ferry to Nanaimo the next morning. This motel offered me the peaceful retreat I needed after a day of noise and constant GPS instructions!
MY room was a little dated but otherwise clean, comfortable, and close enough to the downtown for an easy walk to check out local shops. I found the staff especially friendly and helpful in suggesting good local eating establishments to try. In fact, they gave me a card for Blenz Coffee so I went there and loved it. I returned the favour by picking up a takeout for the girl at the front desk (sorry I can't remember her name) and also tried a place on the main street just down from the motel for some of the best fish & chips I've ever had. Took a picture before I devoured that plate! Met some really interesting people back in the parking lot from all over the world..a father and his daughter over from Germany and another gentleman from Texas who loved our Tilley hats! He was checking mine out...I was checking his out. Any time you see somebody wearing a Tilley hat you know he's a seasoned world traveller and a conversation always strikes up!
I found this to be a quiet place to sleep with some spectacular views down at the wharf. The only thing I found strange and it has nothing to do with the motel is the fact that even though you're within "spitting" distance of the ferry you have to drive out of town and then head back towards Vancouver and then take the next exit and turn around and head back in order to get on the ferry!
One of the locals told me in the past you could just drive from the motel directly over to the ferry lines which is about 100 yards at most but the port authority in all it's wisdom decided to do away with all that and force people to drive 20 miles out of their way to go that same 100 yards. Yes folks, we live in an age where the powers in charge specialize in using sledge hammers to peel oranges and can justify it while doing so... mark my words, they will justify this "new and improved" way for people in Horseshoe Bay to get to the ferry!

Room Tip: Leave lots of time to get to the ferry!

Dear Wheyboy,

Thank you for your comments. We are so pleased to have been a successful part of your seven week cross Canada & USA road trip.

We take great pride in the friendliness of our staff. We are very happy that we were able to provide you with a positive and comfortable environment. . Thank you for your own generosity - it was really kind of you to bring our Front Desk Associate, Shannon, a treat from the Blenz Coffee Shop.

The only part of your review which needs clarification is the driving distance from the Horseshoe Bay Motel to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. The driving distance is actually only 9 kms (approximately 5.5 miles). Perhaps you traveled further east than necessary before you circled back towards Horseshoe Bay. We usually provide our guests with exact directions to the Ferry Terminal. It is most unfortunate that we did not this particular time as it would helped you considerably. We trust that the balance of your trip was good and we hope to welcome you back to The Horseshoe Bay Motel in the very near future. Bree

Horseshoe Bay is a separate little community outside of West Vancouver. It is quiet and not overly traveled by the tourists. Staying in such a small village was very much a treat from the noise and confusion of the big cities. Right in the middle of this charming town was the Horseshoe Bay Motel. Not very big, but full of surprises. The parking area is surrounded by a brick wall that adds to your sense of security. The rooms are large and well appointed. We actually had a queen sleigh bed in our room, surrounded by quality furniture that was purchased at a high end furniture store. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was clean and roomy. Best part of the motel was the front staff. Both the owner and her crew saw to our every need; from where to go and what to do, to directions and shortcuts. I love this place.

The Horseshoe Bay Motel looks like a basic motel from the outside, but the rooms are very nice and closer to what you would expect at a bed and breakfast (minus the breakfast unfortunately, but we were given a discount card to a local coffee place). The room was comfortable, well appointed; had a microwave and a coffee pot and the tub was nice and deep. Internet access was a nice bonus. The rooms were also immaculate. Well worth the drive out of Vancouver.
