“Great Family Getaway - Value and Friendly Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

A group of 10 families went to the Rodd Mill RIver Resort for thier Winterfest Weekend Getaway. I would recommend this for any family looking for a weekend vacation. The resort provides great value, friendly staff and lot's of activites including sleigh rides, skating rink, snowshoeing, sliding park, blow-up castle and a great pool and waterslide. We will be returing next year.

Very reasonable rates, accomodating staff, clean room. Kids loved the pool, restaurant staff were attentive to the kiddies, giving them things to occupy them while awaiting meal. Unfortunately for the Rodd, this place was underbooked when we stayed there in July. (We had 3 rooms).

Room Tip: If desired, ask for a room close to the pool if you have kids - or farther away if you prefer (it wa...

From your arrival, you are given to believe that you are at a private country club. From the professional, friendly front desk to the impeccable lobby above the pro shop to the magnificient rooms to the well stocked club bar, the Rodd Mill has it all-both class and style!
Upon our arrival we were taken to the cottage on the course's 10th tee for refreshments and returned by the same friendly staff. The veranda overlooking the 9th and 18th greens has two things aplenty: silence and great selections of single malt whiskeys -- great reminders of the Royal Dalmahoy in Edinburg, Eagle's Nest in Glen Coe, and Carnoustie and Inverness in Scotland.
The course will show one how well he/she a golfer thinks they are: "dog legs" aplenty, 90 degree 1st hole, water dominating the front of the 3rd tee, and completely along #7- "Hunter's Spring". Tell your golf ball you'll see it again in heaven when you tee off on #13- "Aqua Bound" (aptly named). The regulars will tell you that course par is 74 but they swear the PGA rated it 76,8 ( I would rate it 97.22 with a bag of sweat). Guests should be required to play this course, it will definitely increase one's humility, and vocabulary which would make a drill sergeant proud.
The rooms are world class, overstuffed pillows, large showers, and plenty of room to move about.
The restaurant is a class unto its own: 3 star entrees, wide selections to choose from, an extensive wine cellar, and as mentioned above, a most complete selection of single malt whiskeys. Service is immpeccable. But to add to the dignity of the environs, we were informed that full kilt regalia would be most appropriate, and indeed is strongly encouraged!
But prior to dinner, a session on the veranda with wife/consort/navigator and several single malt samplings along with a very fine aged Nicaraguan cigar in full kilt is warranted. The silence, the gathering evening clouds, the sunset, watching crestfallen golfers retreat from the 18th green is a slice of heaven. "Salve for the soul" as we Scots say!
We heartly recommend one and all to the Rodd Mill while visiting PEI; we certainly have plans to return in 2013 and lenghthen our stay a few days. It is well worth it! And if the kilt is brouight along, expect service to be kicked up a notch. We rate the Rodd "exceptional" and should be on everyone's bucket list.

This resort had everything I was looking for. I enjoyed a clean room and the friendly staff. I golf at the Mill River Golf course onsite and it was in great condition-a real treat. The Restaurant food was average and the room needed a little updating, but overall I would recommend this locations to anyone I know.

We got a room at this place because it was the cheapest in the area while travelling around PEI, and it was right off the highway. When we booked our room online we requested the "Superior Room" which has a nicer view and better rooms, according to the website - for the same price as all other rooms. When we arrived we were given a standard floor level room, which was disappointing. The hotel is certainly old and is showing it's age. The rooms are a mix of some new features and many old, such as stained carpet and old fixtures. The hotel isn't very well laid out and is difficult to navigate due to poor singe. The clerk we checked in with wasn't exactly friendly to start. The restaurant was a bit expensive and had a very limited menu so we ate elsewhere. As a basic stop over location it did the job for a good price, but I would never, ever stay here as a resort destination. I would expect much more out of a place that calls itself a resort location: modern rooms, better service, cleanliness, poor Wi-fi reception. If you're into golf however, you'd probably like it.

Terrible service, basement room smelled, dehumidifiers all down the corridors. Wet floor in room - no fridge or microwave and placed just doors down from a Wedding reception that we weren't involved with . Pool is great and friendly staff in the Restaurant but reception/lobby staff SUCKED and didn't even ask how our stay was when checking out - which took at least an hour due to everyone else checking out at the same time with 2 staff at desk (1 was brand new and needed help with everyone he served). Knowing they had a wedding party and Hotel was booked solid you would think they would have at least 3 staff on if not more for check out time.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room on the highest level, MAYBE they are still half way decent. Basement I wouldn...

What keeps the Rodd Mill River Resort from being "average" (or "poor")? Certainly it is the onsite golf course, which in my own opinion is one of the best in the Atlantic Provinces. Also, it is the onsite pool area... a fun spot for any family. However, apart of the onsite resort amenities, the rooms are clean and adequate however they are showing their age. I doubt that there has been much in terms of upgrades, and any time/money spent on the rooms was for replacement or maintenance. One might find it easy to wake up in the morning believing that you are in a hotel from the 1990s as the decor and room amenities are certainly not trendy or the latest industry norms. The rooms still feature tube televisions, window A/C units (loud!), wall-paper and a push carpet. However, I must say that the hotel has done a fair job keeping the rooms clean and in full working order. The onsite restaurant is good and fairly priced. The staff is very friendly and certainly display "island hospitality". No doubt the resort's hay-day was many years ago, but you can still find a good place to stay and an absolute amazing golf course at Rodd Mill River Resort.

Room Tip: Avoid the "100" series rooms... musty smell on floor with dehumidifiers in hallways; There...
