“Embarrassed to have been fooled by the website!”

Don't be fooled by the website like we were. So old and outdated you will not believe it! Iron stains in carpet of cabin. Bathroom so small you need to maneuver to shut the door behind you. Terrible service at grill patio. Even two 9 yr. old children refused to eat from the kids food and were unimpressed with the adult entrees. Beach area is atrocious, children could not even swim in the water due to the height of the weeds at the surface. Paddle boats an absolute mess. Children's/kids camp next to the resort refuse/dump area. Thankfully we only had booked several days here and smiled while the children enjoyed jumping in the pool, secretly shaking our heads at the poor condition of the entire resort grounds.

We went looking for a getaway from the city and to enjoy some winter adventures. What we actually got was a much over-priced weekend at a sub-par facility.

The food was far from gourmet. In fact, we referred to the 4-item breakfast "buffet" on our first morning as "prison food". On our second night, dinner for 4 took over 3 hours.

We had a leaky roof and our room smelled of septic tank and wet wood. The bed was so slanted that my husband and I ended up sleeping on separate beds - so much for our romantic weekend!

We looked forward to fun outdoor activities, but when we arrived at the 'Rec Centre' (read old garage staffed by 3 boys under the age of 12), we couldn't all find skates, or snowshoes or toboggans so that we could do the same activities together.

Staff were polite, but not helpful or forthcoming in any way.

I definitely WOULD NOT recommend Wigamog Inn to anyone over 12, and never to anyone looking for a clean and comfortable resort. My husband says it is the worst place he has ever stayed and thinks that my review is far too kind...hopefully this can help someone avoid the same disappointment.

If you read some of the previous reviews, the word "tired" seems to come up a lot. I would have to say that I was somewhat disappointed when I walked into our Lakeview room. Tired is an understatement, the carpet was stained the bathroom countertop was crumbling in one corner and barely hanging on the wall. I consider myself pretty opened minded and don't let things get to me but I couldn't help thinking that I was ripped off. Although the room was clean, the stained carpet really turned me off, I couldn't walk around without shoes, for me to say that is bad because I don't fuss too much over stuff like that. The comedian Friday night was a blast, however Saturday night there was nothing going on, my wife and I retired for the evening at 9 pm.

The food is okay, and was all included in our package except for alcohol which we paid for dearly at diner. Two "small" glasses cost us over $16, I know wine by the glass is expensive, but these glasses we're not even classified as wine glasses. I think they were water gobblets or something. Regardless I again felt ripped off.

I was looking for a romantic getaway for the wife and I to unwind and relax. We booked the couples massage which was the highlight of the weekend everything else was disappointing. This resort was not worth the nearly $1000 it cost me.

Sorry for being so negative, as someone said in a previous review this resort needs a little more that a coat of paint. It is very old, worn out and needs a major face lift.

If you want something in the lines of a romantic weekend you will need to go elsewhere.

“Very nice vacation”

I must admit I was very scared to go here, but I was really glad we did. We had a great time. We went to YukYuks, rode on Jet Skis, Swam, Shopped, and ate lots and lots. We enjoyed a Beer Tasting and a Wine Tasting (Ken is a very nice man).

The Breakfast and Lunch Buffets were alway very good, with plenty of variety. And they always let you fill take-out contains with extra food to take with you. I found Dinner could sometimes be a little hit or miss and it was not gourmet cuisine. There were some kids in the adult diningroom, but they did their best not to seat them too close to us.

We stayed in the Lakeview Studios. Our room was very nice and clean, with a hugh kingsize bed and jucuzzi that fit the both of us. The Maid service came every day and left flower on our bed.

The grounds were very nice except for the kids Eco Camp, but I don't have kids anymore so I didn't care.

There were lots and lots and lots of kids there, so don't go if you can't handle rug rats.

I will be posting photos soon.

I was in Haliburton late in July. I used to work at Wigamog Inn as a student quite a few years ago. When I worked there it was a beautiful resort. The owners, the Wards, ran a tight ship and lived on the property so were always around.

I decided to go out there with a friend for an evening cocktail and reminisce about all those years ago. I was surprised at the big condo suites and the fact that the old staff accommodations had been turned into shabby childrens area. We walked all around and it was by far not the great place that it used to be.

We went to "The Moose' for a drink...what a mistake. It was overrun by staff off duty. We sat down and the bartender never came over, we waited 20 min. She was to busy hitting on the male staff that were just hanging around the bar or taking over the pool tables. Finally my friend went to the bar and asked for our drinks. She said that she would come over and check on us. After 30 min and the drinks were done no one came over. She was to busy having fun with her friends.

On our way out I stopped at the front desk and talked to the pleasnat gals there. I told them my story and how sad I was to see that this resort had plummetted over the years....I did find out that it is now run by a management company. Obviously, the company doesn't care and it is merely a tax rightoff. The gals wrote up my complaint with my addreess and email. Sadly I have never heard anything from Wigamog....

Iwould never stay there or ever advise anyone to. The reputation they have is still from 20 years ago, but cannot live up to it.

Poor Mr Ward would rollover in his grave if he new what became of his place.
