“Awesome Golf Holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

We found everything to be absolutely awesome and of great value. The food was excellent, and the service was fast and friendly. I would return for a golf holiday here in a heart beat. The course was in great shape, beautiful and challenging to play. We saw some wildlife and the trees were fall gorgeous as it was September.

I travelled with 19 other golfers to the resort.
Had a fabulous weekend tournament even with the fall rain showers.
The course is in pretty good shape but holds a challenge for all levels of golfers.
We had a series of 5 "chalets" beside each other. Each slept 4 and was comfortable and clean.
The gas fireplace added a great touch to take the chill off the day. The only "negative" is that the fridge is a little small and we could have used more glasses.
The food is generally very good and the wait staff pleasant. A special mention should go to Amanda who looked after 20 golfers who all wanted lunch and beverage when she was on her own. She maintained her smile, great service and a sense of humour! Way to go!
Overall a very nice experience

We stayed Sunday and Monday night for our wedding anniversary as a getaway from the city life. It was not worth our money to stay here and I was disappointed throughout the stay. The only thing this hotel has is their location and that is it.

1.) All the front desk staff not once greeted us while walking by. If we approached them with a question or concern they seemed annoyed and bothered we disturbed them.

2.) The first room they put us in was away from the main part of the hotel. We had to get into our car and drive to our room. Once we arrived, the room was a complete through back to the 80's. It was outdated and the beds appeared lumpy. The couch was stained, the coffee maker was disgusting and had a film all around the inside and was outdated to the same age of them room. Overall the room was in need of a renovation and for the price that they offered is out of range for the quality you received. We were luckily after complaining to the front desk and insisting for a room more updated and closer to where the breakfast, dinner, pool, spa and so on was we were moved to a much cheaper room than was offered. We asked if our difference can be refunded and it was denied!

3.) The cheese and cracker tray they offered in are room was not in the fridge and should have but instead was placed on the table in hopes we check in time to receive it fresh. Likewise was the same with the wine.

4.) Front desk refused to offer us a fridge to our room so we had no means to keep our cheese and cracker tray cold or our wine cold like we could have with the other room that had a fridge. In the end we never did eat the cheese and cracker tray as it was spoiled by the time we were hungry to want it.

5.) The paddleboats and canoes on the pond looked out of shape and not reliable so we avoided them due to us not feeling they were not safe.

The only part of our stay that made it memorable was the our dinner and breakfast at Heatherwood. The staff were pleasant and kind and wonderful to us. Their food was always pleasant and we looked forward to each meal.

Overall for the price of the resort was not worth it at all. It is disgusting that this resort can charge so much for offering so little.

Room Tip: Choose a room close to the front desk.

We usually plan an annual trip to the Pinestone as Haliburton is such a beautiful part of the province. This year we coordinated it with a concert in the region that we wanted to attend and was surprised to see that the best rate that we could get for a double was $197! WOw... that was the most we ever paid for what I would now consider a *** property. Since the Pinestone is no longer run by the Delta chain, I feel it has gone downhill. Examples:
1) they no longer supply robes;
2) Amenities like only paper cups or plastic cups in the rooms;
3) The Heatherwood dining room was fine, except no longer regional Canadian cuisine... so it was just okay... nothing spectacular
4) The property looks like it really could use a renewal

I would have been fine with all of this... but at $200 a night, I felt that we really should have been given a **** treatment considering it was off season.

UNless they lower their rates to reflect the experience, next year, I think we shall be looking for other options. It is a shame that the Delta chain is no longer involved.

Room Tip: Look to a re-saler-- the Pinestone's rates on their own site are at a premium

We were two senior couples who spent one night at this resort wanting to get away for a restful weekend. After we had confirmed our last minute booking we were taken aback with some of the reviews and wondered whether we had made a wise choice. Our concerns increased when before check in we lunched at a restaurant in town where one of the waitresses referred to the place as a dump. so our expectations were not high when we drove in. We were however pleasantly surprised. We were ushered into a tastefully decorated and bright lobby. The check in service at the front desk was excellent. A quick tour of the premises indicated, good outdoor/indoor swimming pools and an outdoor wedding in progress on the well manicured lawns. Our room was good, well maintained with a comfortable beds and good room service. dinner at the pub was good and again the services was excellent. Though we are not golfers a walk along the trails we observed a very busy golf course. the only small drawback is that the resort is located on a little pond not on one of the large lakes. Still we would be definitely recommend this place for the price, location service.

Room Tip: If you are choosing resort rooms insist on getting the pond view.

We wanted the family to have a last blast for the summer , so, after some searching, we thought this resort would suit our needs (two adults and four grown kids). The resort advertised both regular rooms and "Villas". We put the kids in a villa and we took the lesser room in the main hotel. These were not cheap rooms, the "villa" was over $400 per night. Overall the whole complex is very tired and a musty smell pervades the main hotel, all of the hallway carpets were smelly and very old, we had to launder all of our clothing upon our return home because of the smell. It looked like the management of the hotel were beginning renovations which will certainly spruce up a very tired hotel.
The prime rib dinner on Saturday (their speciality) was excellent, and good value, but the adverised gourmet Sunday Brunch, for which we booked six people was cancelled as there were not enough reservations and, instead we had to put up with a regular buffet of chewy bacon and dry eggs and grumpy staff!!
The weather was great and we all got to use the pool area which was in great shape with recent renovations.
We did have a good weekend, but will not return until renovations are complete.

The course was in terrible shape. It is way over priced. I wouldn't recommend this course and it Los took us 5.5 hours to finish the round. I really enjoyed wildfire golf course near by. The green were very slow and patchy.they have lots of work to do before the course is in any shape for me to play again
