Up in the hills - beautiful countryside - and on the way passing dozens of wind turbines on the hill tops, lots of crops growing under plastic & a smattering of photo voltaic panels - rural Sicily up to date. Terraliva is a nice collection of stone buildings well converted to comfortable accommodation - a swimming pool is just being finished for future guests. The owner Tino Cavarra is a delight & most helpful - he speaks some english & is very willing to discuss the processes in producing some superb wine & award winning olive oil - he has certificates for top quality olive oil judged throughout Italy not just Sicily. His wine Terraliva Largasia is a Nero D'Avola & we were fortunate to enjoy some 2006 although few bottles now remain. The current vintage is in itself very smooth & enjoyable.
We dined in two evenings & although the only guests Tino ensured we had a good evening - with his lady chef he produced some mouth watering local dishes & there really is no need to venture out to dine elsewhere.
It does seem that May is a relatively quiet month & this year the locals say that the weather has not been as good as usual - a lot more wind was evident & slightly cooler. The plus side is that perhaps there are fewer tourists around & the wild flowers are still showing well & in great numbers.
