Shortly after visting the Ship i January 2013 it changed hands and we were worried it would go downhill from its previous high standard. It was a relief to find that the new landlord hadn't changed the delightful, simple layout or furnishing (scrubbed tables, high-backed pews). The beers still came from J.W.Lees but the range had been reduced to two - still good, though, and the menu was essentially the same. We had whitebait at £6.75 and thought it sound value. Overall the new landlord is aiming to provide a good pub with food rather than a bistro pub where the beer is incidental. He has succeeded well. Service was still first-class - in fact even quicker than before, with the same friendly, attentive staff.
