“Beautiful beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Obviously this place gets packed on weekends with locals visiting from Bangkok, but I struck it midweek with only a couple of other travellers in sight. The water is calm & you can enjoy the trre lined beach & island views all day, there's literally hundreds of deck chairs & umbrellas under the trees which, I suspect are usually rented out [but no-one approached me for money] . There's a food centre across the road & a toilet/shower block .The peculiar thing about Ao Manao is that it's located in a Thai military base which has an airfield smack in the middle of it. You enter through the base gates & if you're lucky you'll get to see one of the aircraft land or takeoff.

“A wonderfully peaceful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

We stayed at the hotel that is inside the air force base - bizzare setup but you do not really know you are in an army base once you get there. The hotel rooms were wonderful - a view of the sea, peaceful and clean. We were there in the middle of the week and got spectacular rates.
The sea water swimming pool has faces the sea, fabulous. Also has a lifeguard which is not always the standard in Thailand.

The hotel restaurant is not always open, but there is a food center at walking distance. Note that it closes quite early, so do not expect to find dinner at 10pm.

To get to the town the front desk will get you a tuktuk or you can stop one passing on the road.

The bay itself is spectacular, a great place to relax. You can walk along the endless stretches of clean white sand, climb up the mountain and see the view, and feed the multitude of monkeys.
The downside of being at Ao Manao in the middle of the week in low season is that all activities are suspended - you cannot get a boat to the islands or rent a bicycle or anything else. We had to go to the village to rent bicycles which we got from the Pizza place on the beach (French speaking). Excellent new bikes, well maintained. Really nice people who rented us their daughter's small bike for our ten-year-old.

“Worth it for the Monkeys”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

A nice beach coupled with a weird experience. To get to it you must enter an army base! All you do is say that you’re going to the beach and the guard may ask you to sign in, we did, so take your passports just in case. We walked, i wouldn’t suggest this get a tuk tuk or rent a bike. Worth a trip though as there are spectacled langurs nearby that you can feed, there is a bloke there selling mango pieces. If you like seeing wildlife it is worth the visit as the beach is nice but not spectacular.
