“Silver Sands - Beach Haven Villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2012

We returned from Beach Haven Villa on April 23rd and cannot wait to go back! The trip was fantastic!

The villa was comfortable and clean - it had everything we needed. And the best feature - the huge pool was glorious. Our kids really enjoyed it on the days we couldn't swim in the rough water and on days we spent in the ocean it was nice to jump in the pool to wash the salt off. The light at night are nice and a moonlight swim is also nice.

Dasley and Kerry were great! Dasley cooked whatever I asked of her and even tried some things she had never made before when I looked them up online. All the food was to die for! We went to Chen's together and she helped me shop for the things we needed and got some great fruit at the stand in the parking lot. We also got fresh fruit and vegetables from the door to door delivery man who comes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with his truck full of produce. He had really good prices.

The beach was practically deserted and we had the whole thing to ourselves. Other than the first three days when the wind was high, we were able to snorkel every day. Once with Errol to the large reef and the rest of the time on our own. We saw several very large stingrays and many beautiful fish and corals.

We will be returning next year with a larger group so were able to view several properties that were unoccupied - the staff was very helpful in arranging it. We will never go near an AI property again after this. Perfect vacation!!!!

WOW! What an exceptional place and view. The pictures don't lie. On the map it looks like a further walk to the beach than it is. Everything is close. My husband and I, along with another couple from Ontario stayed at Santa Margherta Villa (SMV) in Feb 2012 for a week. We were pleasantly surprised with our accomodation and the vacation was one of our best. This was our first time visiting Silver Sands (SS) and the whole experience exceeded our expectations.Everything was a 5, from the customer service, beach, community and of course the people. Our enjoyment was trippled by the kindness of Jennifer the chef, Shawna the housekeeper and Pops the gardner. We enjoyed all different types of Jamaican food; enhanced by the culunary expertise of Jennifer. She was not only our chef, but a mentor to my friend and I on what to shop for, where to shop and how much to pay for it. She actually gave me a hand in doing my banking. Whatever we wished for, Jennifer would make it happen. She arranged for Tanisha to pick us up at the airport on time, Wesley deliver the lobsters right to our door and Mike chauffeur us safely to the big city and out on a couple of outings. Everyone was so hospitable, even the owner of Santa Margarheta Villa, Mr. C. treated us all to drinks one afternoon. We would not hesitate to go back to SMV, but the problem is, there are so many villa's to try out at Silver Sands. Both couples are already booked to go back next year. The only sad part about this vacation was having to leave.Ummm! Ummm! Jennifer!

We visited Oh Boy Villa at Silver Sands as a family - 2 adults and 4 kids ranging from 5 to 15 years old. Our 2 week stay commenced on the 2012 Easter weekend and the resort was pretty busy with a mixture of overseas visitors and locals staying for the long holiday weekend. Having previously lived in Jamaica for many years we are well versed in the way things work but were pleasantly suprised at how smoothly and efficiently everything worked. We were met by the SIlver Sands rep Gillian and transported quickly to our villa where we were greeted by Yasmin and Elaine - the hardworking housekeeping team.

These lovely ladies soon made us feel at home and looked after us very well with their excellent cooking, thorough (but unobtrusive) housekeeping and friendly good natured approach. They worked very hard to make our stay comfortable and were great with the kids - especially the 5 year old who they made a real fuss over. The eldest boy had a birthday whilst there and the ladies baked a delicious cake and made the evening meal a very special party with banners and party hats. My wife is a vegetarian and the younger kids are fussy eaters - Yasmin and Elaine took this in their stride and prepared dishes to satisfy everyone.

Please note that it is traditional to leave a gratuity for the hardworking housekeeping staff if you are happy with the service - 10 to 20% is the norm. We were very happy!

Food shopping was mainly at the resort mini-mart which was well stocked and very convenient. If you have a car you can shop in Duncans at Chen's supermarket which will be 10 to 20% cheaper. Be sure to try the excellent beef patties at Mother's bakery next door to the supermarket!

The house was spacious with plenty of room for us all - the decor is a bit dated and there are elements that are a bit rough around the edges and in need of some TLC but overall the impact was very positive. Bedrooms have good AC and ceiling fans which made sleeping more comfortable and allow you to keep most of the mosquitoes out. Only my wife was badly bitten on an number of occasions in spite of taking precautions - I put this down to her sweetness! In general there were no issues with other bugs - no cockroaches seen in the whole 2 weeks - which is a testamant to how clean the house is kept.

There is a good TV and stereo but the cable TV and radio are very hit and miss - take DVDs and music CDs if you want that sort of thing. I regret not taking music - good local music was hard to find.

A huge selling point for us was the great 10m x 5m pool - as the depth ranged from 0.9m to 1.5m it was perfect for the kids who were at various stages of learning to swim. The view from the pool deck is good but somewhat spoilt by the presence of 3 large electricity poles and associate cables strung across the frontage. The photos on the agents web site do not show these clearly. Unfortunate - but unavoidable and you do soon learn to look beyond the cables at the view.

Another major bonus was the 2 minute walk to the excellent white sand beach via a series of steps - easy going down but a bit of a challenge going up at the end of a busy day on the beach after a few rums. Beach facilities are good and adequate for the size of the resort - kayaking early in the day followed by snorkelling and boogie boarding in the afternoon when the wind picks up. We went for the sports equipment package for 2 of us and this worked out to be good value for money - we were only disappointed once when all the kayaks were out. It is "first come first served" and the ladies that run the operation are so nice that they are not very forceful in encouraging users to return the equipment when they have finished.

Overall the resort is peaceful and well run by the management team with excellent security - we felt very safe and secure. There are some buildings that are run down and in need of repair - the tennis court was out of operation but this did not pose a problem. There is some new construction work in progress on the resort so I suggest you check with your agent what the situation is around your chosen villa before booking. Not a problem for us but you would not want to be next to a construction site if at all possible.

We had a great time and were sorry to have to go home at the end of our stay. A big thank you to Yasmin, Elaine and all the staff at Silver Sands for making our stay so pleasant and relaxing. We will return!

This is the perfect place for a "barefoot" holiday. The villa is 3 bedrooms - 3.5*, clean and tidy and in the best location on the complex, sleeps max 10, 3 bathrooms, fabulous deck RIGHT ON THE BEACH. Our Chef Nadine was simply amazing - 5*+, we wanted traditional Jamaican food, the way she would eat at her own home... and that is what she gave us. They will cater to any tastes, but if you want to discover the Jamaican culture you need to start with the food! Nadine took us to the local market to stock up on major grocery purchases for the week, no tourists at this market (Falmouth) so best to go with someone local to get the best prices!!! There is a little 7-11 type grocery store on the Silver Sands complex but it can be pricey. All of the "authorized" drivers know the good places to go shopping in Duncans, Falmouth and area and will take you out for the day on tours as well.

If you are looking for a place to relax and decompress, no fancy dress up affairs here, just surf, sand, great people and fabulous food. There is nothing better than waking up every day to the sound of the waves on the beach, sitting on the porch watching boats out in the distance - mmmmm, a perfect place indeed. Please feel free to contact if you want more info.

I don't normally start reviews off with the "bad news" first, but I figure I will get that out of the way and then get to the good stuff!

A few weeks before we arrived, Prem (Silversands CEO) emailed us to inform us that construction was taking place on a new villa next door to Blue Vista. I was initially concerned, but since construction can start and stop at any time, we figured it would probably be ok. Long story short, we had to put up with 10 days of non-stop noise, including; hammers, yelling, radios, jackhammers, drills, saws, yep...the whole nine yards. We almost moved villas, but decided to ask for unlimited use of watersports and spend more time down at the beach.

Ok - now that we have that over with, onto the review of Blue Vista.

Traveling with my wife and kids and my parents, we were met at the airport by a nice air-con bus that took us to Silversands. We enjoyed complimentary drinks onboard - much appreciated as we were hot and tired! Arriving at Blue Vista, we were met by our cook Miss Lily and her helper Marcia. They had prepared dinner for us and helped us settle in quickly. My mother was born and raised in Jamaica, so she worked out the menu with Lily for our 10 day stay. We had some other extended family (Jamaican as well) staying down the road at Windjammer. It really made for a great time, going back and forth between houses and pools, etc.

As far as the Villa itself, you cannot beat the view!! The house is towards the end of the property, so it is very quiet (when no construction is going on), but still a fairly short walk to the beach. The property is wonderful, set on a slight hill. The flow of the house is very open, with dining room, living room and master bedroom opening out onto the pool patio. The pool was very clean and warm. The bedrooms and bathrooms were a bit dated, but hey, we were just sleeping there! Very comfortable, yet simple.

Miss Lily and Marcia were FANTASTIC! We so enjoyed getting to know them and Lily is an AWESOME cook. Wow....she will make just about anything. We had some old Jamaican recipes and our kids enjoyed everything! There is an ackee tree, key lime tree and aloe plant at the house. We had salt fish and ackee, lime zest and lime juice and fresh aloe for those nasty sunburns!

The beach was just fantastic! Not too many people, watersports were great and the water to die for! They hold events down at the beach bar area at night, but the only one we went to was the crab race night and magic night. To be honest, it was a little sad - very few people showed up during the weeknight events and it was all a little forced. I also feel bad for anyone in the villa's near the beach....the music was so loud, I'm not sure how anyone could relax!! Thankfully, you could not hear any of the music from Blue Vista!

All in all, the staff were very good to us. Angela took good care of us and was genuinely concerned about the issues we were having. We would definitely go back, but now that we know what to look for, it should be less stressful the first few days.

Room Tip: You need to be on your game with food. Unless you have an unlimited budget, you'll need to set...

We visited Silver Sands for 3 days in June 2011. It was one of our 5 stops during our month stay in Jamaica. While we loved all of our stops, I have to say, Silver Sands is probably our favorite place of all! When I think of Silver Sands, several words come to mind: tranquility, beauty, relaxation, and pounds! If you’re not careful, you can definitely pack on the pounds from the wonderful food, coupled with the fact that your'e in “relaxation mode!”

Buena Vista Villa:
We really loved Buena Vista Villa. I was a little hesitant about booking it because there are hardly any reviews on it. However, after viewing the pictures (at least 100 times) and speaking with a few TripAdisor members, we decided to go for it. Patricia was our cook/housekeeper and took excellent care of us. She always gave us our space and we never felt that our space was encroached upon, despite the size of the villa. Buena Vista is a very cute villa with beautiful palm trees in the outside and modern décor inside. This villa has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, which was perfect for our small family of four. Upon arrival we chose the 2 bedrooms we wanted, and the other remained locked throughout our stay. Each bedroom had AC and televisions. There were many channels available, including our children’s favorites, even though the reception was iffy most of the time, which is to be expected. (It’s really sad to say, but we are TV people and need our television fix. Yes…even in paradise.) The beds were VERY comfortable and the bathrooms were very nice.

I have to admit, that it took us awhile to adjust to no AC, other than in the bedrooms. No doubt about it. It got pretty hot inside from about 10 am-6pm (especially if Patricia was whipping up one of her scrumptious dishes in the kitchen). The ceiling fan, helped a bit, and we also had an additional standing oscillating fan. By the second day we had adjusted to it. Most of the time, we were either in the pool or at the beach anyway!

Pool:
The pool at Buena Vista is definitely not huge, but is an adequate size. Anyway, who needs a huge pool when the ocean is 5 minutes away? We would usually eat breakfast, take a dip in the pool, go the beach, eat lunch, take a nap, take another dip in the pool, eat dinner, relax, and then go to bed. I know! We were complete bums…and we loved every minute of it! While hanging out at the pool, my boys loved watching the “big rats” AKA mongoose that would appear from time to time in the vegetation around the perimeter of the property.

Beach:
The beach was BEAUTIFUL! I think one of the best I’ve seen. Beautiful, clean, white sand, and gorgeous water. There was never more than about 10 people on the beach the entire time we were there! I realize we were in low season, but I gather that the beach never gets extremely crowded like some other places. My boys had a great time playing in the water, building sandcastles, and doing their famous crabwalk in the sand. There’s even a small playground near the beach.

It was about a 5 minute walk to the beach from the villa. Going to the beach was a gradual walk downhill. Going back to the villa was a gradual walk uphill. The walk going to the beach of course was not bad at all. Neither was the one back to the villa. However, after playing in the ocean for hours, and then walking in the hot sun with tired 3 and 4 year olds, let’s just say the walk back to the villa, was a lot more “interesting.”

Beach Bar and Grille:
We ate once at the grille. I had fried chicken and fries and my husband had escoveitch fish and fries. The fried chicken was good, but the escoveitch fish was WONDERFUL! The prices were reasonable for both.

Meals:
We ate most of our meals on the pool deck. Some of the meals we had during our stay included :French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, ackee and saltfish, dumplings, omelets, conch fritters, tuna fish sandwiches, jerk pork, fried chicken (with a wonderful sauce on the side), steamed snapper, fried snapper mashed potatoes, corn on the cobb, salad, vegetable medley, French fries (for the kiddos), and much more! The snapper were huge and were delivered by John Wesley. He even cleaned them outside, in front our villa. Our boys had a great time watching him while he explained to them what type of fish they were and what he was doing. We’re not big dessert eaters, but I did ask Patricia to make a bread pudding for us. On the day we arrived it was waiting for us in the refrigerator calling our names! It was ENORMOUS and was drizzled with rum sauce. My husband and I said that there would be absolutely no way we could eat the whole thing. Guess what? We did!

Patricia did most of the shopping for us at the local market in town. We did however buy several items at the Silver Sands Villa Mart. The mart has a pretty good selection of items including meats, vegetables, toiletries, etc. However, some of the prices are a bit high. I would definitely recommend that the majority of the shopping be done in town.

Mosquitoes:
The mosquitoes would be the only downside that I can think of about Silver Sands. The mosquitoes had a field day with all four of us! They got friendly with us ALL over, literally from head to toe. Be absolutely sure to bring several different types of repellents and layer them. You may want to bring hats along for the sun as well.

Silver Sands was our second stop during our stay in Jamaica. In hindsight, I wish it was our last because we compared all other places to Silver Sands and none could really compare. Angela in the office was absolutely wonderful and made sure our stay met our expectations…which it did and more! We will definitely visit Silver Sands again, and stay more than 3 days. Those 3 days only teased us! While we loved Buena Vista, we would probably choose another villa on our next visit. That’s part of the charm of Silver Sands. There are so many different villas to choose from! If you’re looking for a very safe place to relax, have great food, and enjoy a beautiful beach, Silver Sands is definitely the place to be!

7 of us spent a week at Red Fox Villa. The villa and and the service were second to none. Our staff - Ms. Shaw and Carmen always made sure we were well fed and looked after. Kelly our butler should commended. This man took the women shoe shopping, carried our parcels and always watched over us to make sure we were safe and happy. We will not go back to the big resorts again, after having experienced the villa. Our vacation at this villa was carefree and wonderful. Can't say enough good things about it. I will recommend this villa to everyone I know.
