It was a nice hotel with good beds and roomy interior. The room was clean and well appointed. The balcony was pretty neat and there was a mini kitchen area. The carpet needed updating in the room, as well as the shower head. The walls were a little thin. The staff was friendly and it had a pretty cool lobby and exterior. It's a nice hotel for the area.
On our two week tour of the area this was our least favourite stay. The hotel was rather like a motel and although it had a restaurant and a pool it felt as though it lacked facilities. The room was spacious but felt dated however it did have a kitchenette which could be handy? The one plus was the laundry room which allowed me to wash clothes ready for the next leg of the journey. A good choice for a stopover but I personally would not have wanted more than one night. As we drove up the road to the NP a black bear ran in front of the car!
As I always use Trip Advisor if I am prebooking I only choose hotels / B&B's that review well. Hence my scores are usually high, suggesting that I am easliy satisfied. That is far from the truth as we like good quality and value for money and thankfully using TA we get that.
We chose this hotel after reading other reviews and were glad that we did. We had two lovely nights relaxing after travelling from Jasper. As mentioned elsewhere the rooms were spacious, beds clean and comfortable, well furnished and we too looked over the lake at the back. We ate dinner one night in the attached restaurant which was fine but had breakfasts and an evening meal about half a mile south down the road at another hotel, name forgotten, but it was by the liquor store and that was spot on.
We used the information centre across the road for guidance and they were most accommodating. We had a lovely day in Wells Grey NP but beware of the mosquitos. They locals seem almost proud that they have about 30 different varieties in the park. Forewarned is forearmed as they say and as I usually get eaten alive I dosed up and covered up. My wife who rarely gets bitten didn't take such precaution and suffered. She had over 80 bites on her upper arms and knew about it for weeks afterwards. I think she will be a little more respectful in future ( they were encountered on the walk around the homestead trail in the park which was well worth it but I am not sure that my wife would agree!).
Back to the hotel. I thought the staff were most helpful and have no complaints about the hotel at all.
We needed to find somewhere to stop off between Jasper and Kamloops and chose the Clearwater Lodge. Good choice. It was easy to find, the room was large and well equipped. The hotel is very spaciously set out, and our room had a balcony overlooking the gardens at the rear of the hotel. Although the hotel is near the highway, we didn't hear a sound from it.
Bonus points for the pool/jacuzzi/sauna complex, although personally I wouldn't have painted it all battleship grey!
The Wells-Gray national park nearby is superb, and worth spending a day exploring the various spectacular waterfalls, and making the acquaintance of the local mosquitos .
There's a good supermarket a couple of kilometres down the road from the hotel. All in all we liked Clearwater, and the Clearwater Lodge, and were glad we stopped over here.
