Recommend taking the guided canoe trip to see the wildlife and also take the hiking trails in the area as well.

“Lovely hikes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

This wildlife management area has a good interpretation centre, and excellent trails which wind around the Kootenay River wetlands. We saw many birds on our 2 hour walk, and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet. A beautiful place to visit.

“great/affordable way to spend the day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

have visited many times, a great place to go for a long walk and see the wildlife sights (birds, birds and more birds, fish, turtles, deer, elk, snakes, more birds! not to mention all the bugs!). only request is to keep your dogs at home or take them to the west creston mountain trails (up to balancing rock or corn creek) and not into the wetland areas. dogs, off leash, tend to jump into the water and disturb the birds and other crawlers as well as the humans! remember that this is a wildlife sanctuary, there are nesting birds in every nook and cranny!
centre is very informative, super friendly staff are always ready to answer questions, canoe rentals are excellent and very affordable. there are summer activites for younger kids too!
bring a bag lunch and lots of water (thirsty after all the walks and i can't recall a snack bar, there is a gift shop with funny turtle crossing signs and animal stuffies & games. lots of knowledge books available for purchase too!) and don't forget the binoculars and the camera!
there are bird watching towers so be prepared for some stairs too and good shoes are a must! while main centre is wheel chair accessable, the trails are dirt. some are wide but it is still 4x4ing for those needing wheels and the water levels can change drastically which can affect the trail.
there are mosquitos but they are only bad at certain times of the year, for the most part they are fish food!

enjoy!

“Creston's Swan Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

It's our regular walking area. We have seen dozens of species of birds, deer, black bear and moose. The Centre is informative and staff helpful. Nature walks by naturalists and canoe rides are highlights. My dad, Dollard Breault built the Centre in 1973-74
Don't miss the Bird festival in May of this year!
