“Not good value for money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We found the unit to be extremely over priced not at all value for money. Our unit was very tiny tucked away by the garden shed. We would associate this with a 1970s style motel.
The shower provided no where to put your clothes or any where dry to stand and get dressed.
Ourselves and other family members would not stay there again.
Staff were polite and friendly and the unit clean.

Room Tip: Check out other motels first.

I was astonished when I took two American tourists, arrived on an early morning flight, to this establishment, only to find that it does not make any provision whatsoever for guests arriving before 7.30am. I had to leave them at a nearby coffee shop. I later phoned the management to discuss the matter and was told "So what - they knew about it..." Hospitality indeed

Room Tip: Try a more hospitable establishment

Upon confirmation of all reservations details of guests arrival times are requested. Our check in time is midday. If guests are expected to arrive prior to this we would offer to look after their luggage for them at reception until their room becomes available. Check out time for guests is 10am and we always make it a priority to have rooms made up for guests who are waiting to check in. If they choose to take a walk to one of the nearby cafes we would request their mobile number to call them as soon as the room is available.

We booked this Motel for 2 nights for three of us, thinking we would pay a little more to have a pool and a resturant, only to be told on arrival that the resturant does not open on weekends and they don't do breakfasts or room service on weekends either!
Could have told me that when I booked!
The reception staff were lovely to deal with, polite and friendly.
It was a was lovely 1 bedroom room though, very clean and nicely decorated.
BUT for the price per night, we expected a little extra, no Air conditioning or dishwasher or compedium in the room and the TV sound and picture quality was terrible, I had to ask for a fan as it was so hot! and for an extra set of towels as there were 3 of us, they should have known that, thats what I booked and paid for.
On our walk to the pool there was a big dog turd on the lawn in front of or room as the owners have a large dog, which barks in the mornings!
I don't usually complain but this was just ridiculous, next time I shout my mother and daughter away it will be somewhere else.

Emerald Inn has never had a rstaurant or offered room service. Breakfast is served in our Poolside Breakfast Room Monday - Friday between the hours of 7am and 9am. We have found that during the weekends guests prefer to enjoy a leisurely breakfast/brunch at one of the very popular cafes within 100 metres of the Inn.
Yes we do have a 10 year old Labrador - Kala. Kala does not bark in the mornings and we believe the dog referred to in your review was visiting one of our neighbouring residents.
We, Kala's owners and our grounds staff are very vigilant in looking for droppings. We apologise sincerely if in this instance we did not pick up as quickly as we should have.

We have stayed at the Emerald Inn quite a while ago. We had not been overly impressed but it was satisfactory. We were in Auckland for two nights and after a lot of searching decided to give it another go.
It is in a great spot .Very handy to the beach and a cafe .
Otherwise though we were very disappointed . When we booked we were told we had a room with a view of the pool and we paid extra for that view.! Well we had a view of another rooms wall and had to go out onto the balcony and lean around to see the pool. All we could see was a flat wall.
The bathroom was basic with nowhere to place your shampoo etc in the shower.
There was no air conditioning .we ended up asking for an electric fan. The TV was very basic and the sound was awful. We spent a good hour trying to improve it and ended up turning it off. There was no DVD player.
We also noticed that there were hair clips on the floor which were not ours so I would say the room hadn't been serviced very well.
We did consider moving but being Waitangi Day everywhere was booked.
Maybe we had been given one of the rooms that hadn't been improved but for the price and seeing as it was Takapuna we were very disappointed .We have stayed in much less pricey motels and they have been lovely , Well equipped and clean.

We had Xmas 2012 in Auckland where our youngest son and family live so needed accommodation nice and close to their home. Takapuna and Emerald Inn was my choice having spied it when we lived in Takapuna. We used to go to the beach and get a chai latte from The Store and very nice ice creams and fish and chip meals occasionally. On a summer evening it was bliss down there.
We needed accommodation for 12 nights. I thought it would be way to expensive for us but it was not at all. We had a studio room within the courtyard and overlooking the pool. Also had a view out to the sea. We decided it was the best room because of the view.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The staff were friendly. The room was clean and serviced everyday.
We could have been somewhere in the Islands with the tropicals plant in the courtyard and the pool. So all in all we had great accommodation and a great stay.

Nice motel right by the beach at Takapuna. Rooms good and clean and good facilities. Lovely pool area surrounded by good sub tropical planting. Only complaint is that couch was really uncomfortable if you were not lying down on it.

The Inn was recommended to me by an Auckland friend who lives on the North Shore. I am glad I took her recommendation. The studio was clean and modern with a view into the courtyard. The colorful landscaping was breathtaking and the fact that there was a table and chair out on the little patio made the place feel more personal.
I did take advantage of breakfast the first morning, but on Saturday when they have no kitchen service, was directed by the front desk to eat at a lovely little restaurant a few steps away down by the harbor. Wow! So close for beach walking and restaurants.
The wifi cost me, so keep that in mind if you plan on staying connected during your stay.
I will be back to New Zealand and plan on staying here again, especially if I can get courtyard room.
