“Nice mountain lodge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Just outside Field ( small village of 250 people) the Lodge is situated in quiet surroundings, but rather isolated. You will need your car to visit the nice attractions in the surroundings.
The private lodge we stayed in comprised of sitting area , queen size bed and a nice bathroom.
There is just a small wardrobe. Airco and fireplace make this lodge comfortable.
No cellular telephone ( you have to drive to Golden-40 km.) and no internet. Staff very friendly and professional. This is a relaxed and luxury place to stay and to enjoy the scenic highlights nearby.
In the restaurant one can enjoy a buffet-breakfast which is quite simple.
It was a pity that the grass and the green between the cabins was unkept.
A nice gesture was the free canoe-rental for one hour at Moraine Lake, but as the rain was pouring down we did not make use of this free offer.

Stayed two nights in September. The room was great, staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in a fairly remote location and field town was only small. Luckily the hotel restaurant was great, fairly priced and a great atmosphere. Free afternoon coffee and cookies were a nice treat as was the free breakfast.

Probably the nicest hotel we stayed in 3 weeks in the Rockies

Tucked away just a couple of kilometres off the Trans-Canada highway, this is an ideal mountain lodge in quiet setting of the Canadian Rockies. Gorgeous cabins with fireplaces and an outstanding restaurant make this a great weekend getaway.

Room Tip: Choice of wood burning or electric fireplace rooms.

After my last stay in the sister lodge (Moraine Lake Lodge), I have decided to try the Cathedral Mountain Lodge.
Plus:
+ Quite
+ Nice Cabins
+ Good restaurant
+ Friendly staff

Minus
- No cellular network (but it can be a plus if you want, just like me, to disconnect from work)
- No internet (same as above)
- Road and Train noise might be a bit disturbing if you are sensitive to that kind of noise

Overall, 5 nights in this hotel, 6 days of great pleasure!

Really enjoyed our 2 nights in cabin number 9. Very well presented with lovely artifacts in the room and mock real fireplace to keep us warm. Only negatives being noise from the railway and the road close by. Complimentary breakfast was good and they could have easily charged for this. We didn't miss a TV or WIFI- it was nice to get away from it all. Lots of things to do nearby-we did the "walk in the past" to the abandoned train and numerous trails all close to the lodge. Recommended.

This Lodge offers a very attractive and characterful high quality "country" style based on accommodation in luxury log-cabins complete with historical decorative items.
The cabins are set in coniferous woodland close to a river. The location is conveniently near a main highway, but does not suffer unduly from traffic noise or from the railway line that runs on the far side of the highway. It should be noted that although the address is given as "Field", it is actually about 1-2 miles outside the village of Field and is on the opposite side of the highway.
Fittings and furniture are to a high standard. Our cabin was warm and comfortable with a very nice shower/bathroom. Central heating is provided by an imitation log burner that is actually a gas fire.
Breakfast is taken in the attractive main lodge, buffet-style. The food is very good with a reasonably wide selection of items, all of good quality. One small irritation however is that the owners do not seem to supply mugs for drinks - only minuscule teacups.
Beside the dining area is an informal lounge with various sofas and an enormous cheerful wood fire.
The lodge also offers dinner - but this is a little expensive - and "somores". The latter are marshmallows which guests can toast on a fire outside and are eaten there along with chocolate and dry biscuits.
The accommodation's staff are friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about the local area.
One tip - if you decide not to have dinner at the lodge, be aware that other possibilities in the area are extremely limited. Make sure that you book early, or arrive early, or you run the risk of going hungry!

Room Tip: Cabins near the kitchen in the main lodge may experience noise from the roof-mounted equipment there...

This was to be our Canadian Rockies trip's big finish after Canmore and Jasper but unfortunately we were a little disappointed... If you are looking at the hotel's website you'll be left with the impression that this property is in the middle of an undeveloped expanse of nature. Not true. It is very conveniently located off the main artery that will take you to points east and west, like Lake Louise and Field. The property is a very densely built collection of cabins that offer very little in the way of scenic views - unless you are on the river! Our kids and their kids - four of them - stayed in the accommodations there. Beautiful view, wonderful rushing water sound - you'd never know you were so close to the highway. Our accommodations on the other hand - after changing rooms - had a view of the cabins in front of us (instead of the original view of the back door of the kitchen and parking lot). Something else to keep in mind is that while the cabins are all outfitted very nicely, they are ALL very small. The quarters are quite tight no matter the accommodation level. The lodge is very nice with a lovely view and also not as large as depicted on the website - the power of a good camera lens! All that said, Cathedral Mountain itself is awesome and to sleep five nights under its looming presence was somehow very comforting, the people at the Lodge tried to be helpful, and the food there was quite good.

Room Tip: The rooms are small so consider how much space you need!
