“Great B&B, outstanding hosts”

Ladysmith is probably not on top of most people's lists when travelling but on the east coast of Vancouver Island it is a good place to base yourself. We stayed at the Island Estuary with Ted and Lynda in October 2013 and really could not fault the place. Lynda and Ted are such easy company and run a fantastic B&B. Lynda is an excellent chef. Food was superb and the bed was really comfortable. We got some great tips from them about where to eat and what to see in the area. We laughed our heads off with Lynda and Ted and had a fantastic time here. We'll definitely stay here again if in Ladysmith. Good people deserve good words. Thank you.

What else to do to but celebrate the Winter Solstice by travelling up island to Ladysmith’s heralded blazing Christmas lights display? I had a dual mission which was also to pick up a cherish piece of pottery from local artist, Mary Fox, and then head to a place recommended to me called Island Estuary B&B, just off the island, facing a stunning estuary, and quiet, quiet. Except for the odd sounds of puppy visitor cajoling resident, Leo into playing – a good sound.

This sanctuary was well appointed with some stunning art pieces. Lynda (& Teddy-the owners) had put out her freshly baked shortbread, tarts and Christmas oranges and I quickly settled in for a short winter's night, for a read, cards, diary and conversations with far away Toronto relatives who were already by then, several hours in darkness due to an ice storm. Though I had intended to get up and trundle into town to see the lights once darkness descended, I opted instead to I watch the solstice light go down, down over the estuary and was at peace and fast asleep by 9:00 pm.
In the morning I was hospitably greeted by Leo, a blazing fire, and stunning Christmas tree all lit up, as well as a sumptuous table laden with all things delicious (quiche, sticky buns, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt -fresh coffee). My hosts were convivial and we all enjoyed the good conversation of strangers with a fellow traveller and ate delicious food leisurely. Eyes wandered through the picture window at the estuary wherein the distance were two chairs waiting for visitors. Mutual art lovers, I was instructed as to directions to the off-the-beaten-path Ladysmith Art Gallery, and made great serendipitous discoveries there.
If you are in need of sustenance of any kind, do not hesitate. Go directly to the Island Estuary B & B!

We had a great visit at the Island Estuary B&B! Lynda and Ted were such gracious hosts, we enjoyed their company and learned from their experience about many things, including cooking, kayaking and photography.
We would definitely return again, it felt like home after one day. We loved being spoiled,

Hailing from the parched prairies, each time I have been to Vancouver Island, I book my stay here, as my eyes become drunk every time on the rich colours and textures of this B & B's surroundings. Both inside and outside, the Island Estuary B & B has the fine touches of top class decor; the linens to the artwork are in excellent taste, as are the multileveled gardens and marvelous water views. To top off this esthetic value is the delicious attention lovingly given to the quality of food and its appearance. Linda is a talented chef as well as an artist when it comes to presenting a meal. The warmth of both her and Teddy’s welcome permeates this home away from home with style and careful attention.

Whether you are travelling for business or pleasure the Island Estuary B&B is a perfect choice at any time of year. The moment you step through the front door into the gracious foyer you are welcomed by both an exceptional view over Ladysmith Harbour as well as the warm hospitatlity of the owners Ted & Lynda. I have had the opportunity to attend business breakfast meetings within this establishment as well as book accomodation for aquaintances who have shared their rave reviews. An excellent location to use as home base when travelling mid Vancouver Island.

What a pleaseant surprise, when we happened across this quite B&B! Our stay is hard to put into words.
Our hosts, were pleaseant, charming, exstremely well mannered, as well as very knowledgable with so many venues in the local areas and abroad. Our room was so very comfortable, very quite, as well as private. Clean and exstremely well maintained is another phrase I would use.
Our made to order breakfast was second to none. The view, over looks the water and bay area, offering you a wonderfull setting while enjoying your breakfast.
This B&B is very centerly located to travel from as we were on a motor Bike we could come and go with eaze.
This sheltered B&B offers you the peace and quite rarely found in these parts, and best discribed as a slice of gods haven, with the grace and comfort offered to you by the hosts that craddle you during your stay, with the flamboance and style you get in a 5 star hotel.

We had a very nice three night stay. Ted and Linda went well beyond what we could ask or imagine. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. The views from the rooms are wonderful. The innkeepers provided wonderful breakfasts, taylored to our dietary desires. The location was convienent to local shops and day trips elsewhere on the island. Though the property is close to highway 1, the road noise was barely noticable. We highly recommend the B&B.
