Drop in if you want to kill some time. White man's history of the area. Lots of mining info. Bland. Safe.
Suggestion: consider more information on the area's First Nations.

We liked the time line of Ladysmith's history and we found out that the largest maple leaf was found here!

“Homegrown and Well supported”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

As newer residents of Ladysmith we took in the museum on First Ave. not expecting much, since the community was formed around coal mining and the timber industry. What we found was a very well set-up representation of Ladysmith life back in 1903-20. Very nice presentation of artifacts, local residents educated in the museum contents available for a tour.
Just really well done, and it made me proud. And you can't beat the admission, which is by donation.

“Must See Attraction in a Must-See Town !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Before visiting Victoria, we found this to be only place in the World to find a copy of "Cooking up History". We were directed to the Ladysmith Museum by the wonderful people at the Ladysmith Visitor's Center. We were greeted at the Museum by Bernardien and Gary Knol who actually compiled artifacts from the archives and presented several interesting displays of Ladysmith History. The Knol's were most personable and turned a 10 minute book-buying visit into over an hour visit.

Anyone traveling to Nanaimo from Victoria must stop and walk through Ladysmith. We were visiting in October, out of season, on a rainy day and still managed to enjoy ourselves in this Victorian village. Main street Ladysmith features most if not all of the original buildings.

We had seen there was a Tim Horton's at the end of the village, but a surprise visit to Old Towne Bakery put that notion out of our heads.

The Knols told us of the Festival of Lights that would be occurring in November, and we were sad to have missed it.

Either way, if you are Visiting Victoria BC and have an auto, make plans to visit Ladysmith and the Museum. Good weather would help. Plan on parking and walking so you can look in each window.
