“Hot Love and Cheesecake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011

Although the venue is nothing fancy, the food is incredible. The schnitzel was outstanding and the desserts incredible. My wife had "Hot Love" (warmed raspberries over vanilla ice cream) and I had the some of best cheesecake that I have ever had (probably the best in 25 years). It is a small venue, so make reservations (even in the off season).

“Exactly as Reviewed - Excellent - be sure to go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2011

This is our second time in Lunenburg for a vacation and unfortunately we did not get to Old Black Forest Cafe in 2010 but made up for it this year. We went twice and both visits were excellent. This is a small restaurant, perhaps seating 30-35 people but that's definitely part of the charm. We went both times for an early dinner around 5 PM and were seated immediately.

The menu is quite diverse for a small restaurant and we had the pork cordon blue, the beef steak, and the pork schnitzle - all are served with a fresh salad, veggies, spatzle or rice. The servings are ample and we took home "doggie bags". The dry Reisling is wonderful served in old world wine glasses. Both times we shared the Black Forest cake which was the best we've ever had.

If in Lunenburg, do not pass up this gem!

“Savory food on the Lighthouse Route”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

Located between Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, this smallish German restaurant offers big flavors and friendly service. We've been dining here for seven years and haven't been disappointed yet. And our guests have always given it a thumbs up. Great schnitzel, great spaetzel. Filling soup. Ranging toward the pricey side, perhaps, but worth it.

“Well worth the short trip from Lunenburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2011

Had an excellent pork dish. Piping hot and very generous serving. Nice menu and presentation. You won't leave hungry! Reservations are recommended. The dining room was about half full when we arrived but filled rather quickly. Seemed to be a lot of locals, which speaks well for them.

“Ausgezeichnet”

Had a wonderful dinner here early on a Sunday evening in late July 2011. Authentic German cuisine, very well prepared, and good service.
