“Food Quality is Inconsistent and the Service is really poor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2009

The Tin Fish continues to go downhill. The same dish will be great on one occasion but not the next. The menu is solid but the execution is higly variable.

The decor and outside dining area are wonderful but the service is at best indifferent and mostly poor. I have gone to the Tin Fish twice this summer and found the same conditions present. The music was too loud on both occasions and a "clean" coffee cup had lipstick on it the second time. The server was also wearing an unappetizing dirty apron, as though she might have been the dishwasher or sous chef when she wasn't waiting tables.

The Tin Fish had an excellent start and was very well received in town but something has gone wrong. The restaurant has great potential but is not being properly managed. Even trying to get someone to bring the check and process it is a hassle. I am going to give it one more try this week to see if anything has improved. Come on, Tin Fish, get this restaurant in shape! You have the potential to have a great venue!

“Holy cow - this place is bad!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2009

We were there on a Saturday night - service was really slow - yes, they were busy, but it was really slow and poor. Our busboy was reasonably friendly but our waitperson was brusque in the beginning. She got somewhat better as the meal progressed but she didn't really care about our dining experience.
The food - bad... the calamari wasn't crisp but was probably the best thing we had. The tomato tart was downright awful. I don't know what kind of cheese was on it, but it wasn't a good combination and it's their specialty. Entrees were really bad. Nothing was seasoned. The duck seemed as though it had been cooked in water. Duck should be rich, a bit fatty, full of flavor. Not here - the skin wasn't rendered enough, wasn't crispy. The meat was almost flavorless and was watery which was bizarre to me. The deep-fried halibut was overcooked but the flavor was good. We didn't dare try anything else. Breakfast the next morning - we thought with a different chef and different servers that it would be better. We were sorely disappointed again and got to hear the busboy (now waiter) complain to a co-worker about how many bad service complaints there were the night before. And we certainly hadn't said anything! Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

“Adequate and pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2009

This is an ok, but not great restaurant. Prices are above what you can pay for comparable food in Lunenberg. Both inside and outside seating available. Service was somewhat slow.

Inside atmosphere upscale. But this does not seem like a high value restaurant for quality or quantity of good. It is more formal than most local restaurants.

“Wonderful: loved it and can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2009

My sister had stayed at this hotel and few times and raved about it, but she had never eaten a meal here. I've been wanting to though. hehehehe

Decided to stop for a late Saturday lunch after a drive from Halifax. Was so glad we did. Loved the decor with it's bright colours and the casual upscale atmosphere. Beautiful wooden floors. Bright and cheery.

We ate away from the bar area and it was so quiet and relaxing. I ordered one of the specials and it was quite good. Crab cakes and house salad, which was served with an intriguing dish of what seemed to be a combination of tartar sauce and coleslaw. I did have a taste of my companions fish and chips. The fish was ok, but did not like the fries. He did though and that's what matters. Our server was attentive and friendly.

A few little things that really didn't impact my experience but may others. The kitchen music competing with the restaurants piped in music. There were 2 tables in our section that were not cleared even though we were the only customers in that area: this didn't bother me as I would prefer to be alone in my experience than have the commotion of the clearing process.

Even though a few tables were not cleared my overall impression of the restaurant, lobby and restroom was cleanliness.

At the time of receiving our bill we got a little bag of jelly beans instead of mints. Such a nice change of pace.
