“We will definitely return...”

The welcome and service we recieved from the moment we walked in made us feel right at home. We purchased the Balnea package and though the Balnea spa was a good half hour away, we enjoyed every second of our stay. Our room was nicely decorated and practically took us to another era. The food was delicious and tasty and the staff, very friendly and helpful. Charming, quiet and relaxing. If you purchase the Balnea package, it says that you are to be greeted with a basket of fruit and chocolates. Not sure if the hotel or the spa are responsible for that. We did not think of it until after we left. Make sure you check that detail at the time of reservation.

An easy drive from Hanover, NH to one of our favorite spots, which we have visited and/or dined at for over nine years. Maintains high standards of the Relais et Chateaux with beautifully furnished rooms with luxurious linens. and impeccable service at desk, in dining room, and chambers. Our two dinners, the first overseen by the very experienced Frank, were imaginative, delicious and beautifully presented.

Room Tip: Nice to face the Lake.

I spent a night at this Manoir: clean, quiet, nice staff. Beautiful view over the Massawapi lake, they have also a small pool. Restaurant proposes an interesting cuisine, tasteful. It is a perfect place to observe the colours in Quebec province.

At the end of February, we spent a lovely three days/nights at this beautiful retreat. With winter still in full force, we were delighted to relax in this serene environment: the whiteness of the lake induces a feeling of calmness which helped us to relax and enjoy our stay. Our luxury room located on the second floor was beautifully decorated wth large windows overlooking the lake and working fireplace. The bathroom was spacious and perfectly clean. Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room again overlooking the lake. The food is exquisitely presented and absolutely scrumptious; the wine list is extensive and varied. The staff at the Manor is fully professional, always polite and helpful.

This was our seventh stay at this hotel and we are looking forwardto our next stay in June of this year.

Room Tip: Luxury rooms on the lakeside on the seocond floor are particularly beautiful!

As part of our recent skiing and gustatorial tour of the Province of Quebec, we spent an overnight at the hotel which was located on the frozen shores of Lake Massawippi. (More about the activities on the lake, later). After our check-in by the very friendly and efficient staff, we decided to take the afternoon tea in the library where a fire in the massive fireplace greeted us. The scones, with cream and local jams and butter, were as light and tasty as those we experienced at that little cafe in Cornwall. Our room, with its four poster bed, and working fireplace, was located in one of outlying cottages, away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. With night settling over the lake and a friendly fire in the fireplace, we were magically transported to the little cottage in the Cotswolds that we visited many years ago when we were much younger. The bathroom, fixtures, and furniture was cozy, and not a bit out-dated. Rooms with chrome, stainless steel, and massive windows belong in Manhattan or Berlin, not at this retreat deep in the snow covered Canadian woods!

Dinner was a joyous occasion, and served with the degree of professionalism that is only found in the grand resturants of Europe. The wine list, assisted by the very helpful sommelier, was outstanding and included some of my favorites like a vintage Cote Roti. My appetizer, scallops served with pickled Irish moss (actually Irish seaweed) was innovative. The presentation of the rib-eye of locally grown beef served with a maple syrup reduction and a parsley puree was a work of art. My favorite course was the cheese trolley, with a variety of local cheeses, including a cheddar from Prince Edward Island that the waiter swore had a hint of potato. Upon recommendation by the sommelier, I finished the dinner with a digestive, a glass of fortified Banyuls, a wine from Langueduc/Roussillon. What a memorable experience!

As we were checking out the next morning, I noticed that the activity for the afternoon was ice fishing on the lake! I wished we could stay another day, sit on the ice for hours, then warm up by the fire in the library, and then repeat the previous evening's dining performance. We shall return someday soon, perhaps this time in the autumn, when we can savor more of the local produce.

Room Tip: The upstairs room in the cottage at the end of the road would be be quieter that our downstairs room...

I surprised my wife with a 3 day trip to Manior Hovey. It was wonderful from the time we arrived until the moment we departed. The room was a bit small but just right for our needs. A (gas) fireplace in the room, lovely view of the (frozen) lake, and a private sitting porch, which would have been perfect in warm weather.
The Manior is elegant with being stuffy, the service friendly, low-key, and efficient without being snooty.
The meals were a pleasure from start to finish, full of delights and tasty surprises.
Dinners were leisurely and for over 2 hours we enjoyed and savored everything. The waitstaff and sommelier were good natured, helpful and attentive (and had great senses of humor). The suggested wines were spot on delicious with what we ordered.
The only little negative is almost too insignificant to mention but here goes: my wife ordered the corn pancakes for breakfast and wanted one poached egg to go with it. She was told that there would be a supplement for the one egg because it constituted "another breakfast". Hmm, ok..forget the egg. Odd because the rest of the breakfast was so generous.
Don't miss the rustic and beautiful lounge for a cocktail!
All in all, memorable. Somewhat pricey, of course, but a great value considering the extraordinary experience.

Stayed overnight at the hotel situated on lake Massawipi in the easrtern township of Quebec Canada. We were assigned a very comfortable large room within the complex but away from the main building where the bar and dining room are.The furniture and bed were of very good quality much of it other than the bed and bathroom made up mostly of high end antiques. The bathroom included a whirlpool bath and all other accessories were modern.
We had reserved in the dining room and were not disappointed although the menu is limited by a set table d'hote at a price of $70 per person excluding wine which we found somewhat steep. The cuisine is not your common fare serving such as wapiti and other similar food, all excellent if unusual. The room package included breakfast which was elaborate but very good indeed. The hotel adds 15% for service both for dinner, cocktails and breakfast.

Room Tip: If weather is not favorable best to reserve in the main building as otherwise you need to dress warm...
