“Freezing cold but a very warm welcome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Just to get a bit of fresh air we decided to visit Bodiam Castle, a favourite outing when our son was small. We decided we would have lunch first on arriving and a very friendly catering assistant pointed out tasty options for our grandson, aged 2, and went to great lengths to make sure he had something he liked. We chose hot meals and coffee for the adults and within a very short time, it all arrived, with smiles and politeness. We then walked up to the castle, passing the ducks on the way. The ticket office staff were friendly and soon we were crossing the moat to the castle. We listened to an most informative talk on herbs and medicine in one of the turret rooms to start with and then clambered up the towers. Our last port of call was to the shop, a lovely warm haven with plenty of items for a small child to enjoy looking at. The helmets were of particular interest along with an excellent selection of books on castles. The falling snow was a bonus to what was a really lovely afternoon. Full marks for customer service.

“Beautiful Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

One of the most beautiful picturesque castles I have ever seen. Even though the inside is in ruins it has a very romantic feel to it. Lots of lovely picture opportunities around the grounds. Well worth a visit.

“Definitely worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

As other reviews have already said, this is exactly how you would envisage a castle to be like, with lots of towers with stone spiral staircases and a proper moat round the outside. It is so photogenic.

I imagine that children would have a whale of a time exploring all the nooks and crannies and there was enough historical information to keep the adults happy. The information that was provided allowed us to visualise exactly what the castle would have looked like in its heyday.

The spiral staircases in the towers are really only accessible to the fit and able but I thoroughly recommend going up if you can make it - the excellent views are well worth it.

In summary, definitely worth a visit, especially for National Trust members who get free parking and free entry.
