“Wonderful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2006

Lizard Creek was a wonderful place to stay. We went there for a wedding at the beginning of June and it was gorgeous. The staff were more than accomadating for us. They didn't mind when we bugged them with questions and helped us in any way possible. We are very peticular when it comes to where we stay as well, and it is one place we most certainly want to go back to.

We returned to Lizard Creek for the third time, but for the first time with our 3 yr old daughter. Yet again, everything was pretty well perfect, from the food, the condo's (we stayed in a block away from the main lodge), the staff (who arranged first rate babysitting) and of course position - so close to the lifts and childcare.

We dearly like our luxury and deep snow and Lizard Creek + Fernie has it all for us. Our only advice is to hire a car with a babyseat to give you flexibility for trips into town - try the towns swimming pool with little ones.

Arrived a little early but room was ready. Got a terrific room as we where
there early in their season, June. Dinners and breakfast at the lodge was
very good with friendly staff. The only thing was since it was early in the season the pool and hot tub where not open or cleaned yet and almost
all of the old downtown was closed. Highly recommend.

We have just returned from our 10 day holiday which we spent at the Lizard Creek Lodge (Feb 2004) in a 2 room condo. The Lodge officially hovers between 4 and 5 * status and I must say, I would have no qualms in recommending it for 5* status.During our stay we were always made to feel very welcome and the marvelous staff were constantly friendly, smiley and helpful. The hotel looks very welcoming from the outside and on arrival the Lobby was just as we had hoped. A large crackling log fire, comfy leather sofas and a spacious lobby area. Our check in was fast and efficient, but when we asked for help with our many bags and snowboarding gear, we were curiously told they did not provide this facility (perhaps because it is not really a hotel and is self-catering condo?s?).Upon opening the door to our condo we could not conceal our smiles. It was PERFECT. Large and spacious enough for 4 adults (although there was just the 3 of us), the condo was spotlessly clean and very nicely decorated and in an excellent state of repair (I think the Lodge is only a couple of years old). Our room (as with all I believe) had a fully equipped, large kitchen with more cupboards than my own good-sized kitchen at home! A full cooker with 4 ring hob, kettle, coffee machine, complimentary selection of teas and coffee?s, large fridge-freezer (complete with filled ice-cube trays) and full size dishwasher. A look inside the cupboards revealed everything you could possible need to cook and prepare food (whisks, baking trays, Tupperware containers, measuring jugs, cups, saucers, plates etc.). They had even provided dish clothes, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets! They really have thought of everything. Two large separate closet style cupboards reveled a dustpan and brush, iron, ironing board, washing machine and tumble dryer. An absolute GOD SEND when you come off the slopes feeling a bit wet and soggy! The ?main? bathroom (we had two) was small, but perfectly formed, with everything you could need including a hair dryer and toiletries. The En Suite bathroom off the main double bedroom was large and contained all the usuals plus a 2 person Jacuzzi which again was an absolute god send, a real luxury after a long day of snowboarding. The main bedroom was large with double closets and a door leading out to the balcony which was lovely. The bed was very comfortable ? the only other beds that can come close are those at the UK Malmaison chain of hotels ? and we believe it was Super King size, as it was certainly bigger than our King size at home! The large sofa bed in the lounge was in front of the fire which was nice and again, we are assured by our daughter, was very comfortable. With this double sofa bed folded out, there was STILL another sofa to use to relax or watch TV on and a couple of easy chairs too. We kept the sofa bed out the whole time and had bags of room. There was also a good sized dining table and breakfast bar area in the kitchen.Because of some noisy people in the room above us (over zealous small children with ski-boots on first thing in the morning!), we were quickly and efficiently moved to the 3rd floor (this is also the top floor of the Lodge) and were stunned to walk in and find we had been moved to a 6 person Loft room. Again, this room was wonderful with everything we had in the first room, but even more space and not just one large balcony but two! There was a bedroom with en-suite, a double sofa bed in the lounge and a lovely mezzanine level with another comfy double bed.Because Apres ski is not that great in North Amercia, having a TV with loads of stations (lots of free movie channels too) was great, although we didn?t get to watch much after going out for evening meals, then falling asleep by about 10pm!We only ate at the Lodge a couple of times (in the day) in the lounge area overlooking the slopes and the heated outdoor pool, but the food was nice and reasonably priced too.The position of the Lodge within Fernie Apline resort is hard to beat, it really is in a ski in-ski out location and directly overlooks the Elk lift and is only minutes on foot away from the centre of the alpine resort, ski and snowboard school meeting place and Deer lift. Within the hotel there is a ski and snowboard hire shop called Quest, which was very useful and very convenient and again they were very friendly and helpful.Although the Lodge had a spa and gym, we didn?t use these facilities so can?t comment, but judging from the rest of the place, we are sure they are great too!All in all we would give Lizard Creek Lodge 10/10 ? we have never enjoyed a holiday so much. The resort itself had a lot to do with this, but the accommodation really was great. The only thing I would say as a negative about Lizard Creek is that it could do with a little more varied menu and a better shop would help as the only shop in the Fernie Alpine resort (The Mountain Pantry) is very limiting, but having said this, it was not too difficult to go downtown using the Kootenay taxi/bus ($3 each way) where there were larger supermarkets ? a great place to stock up for your stay. Go on your first day while you are still jetlagged so you get maximum mountain time and don?t have to take half a day off later in your holiday to buy groceries! If you are thinking of visiting, I urge you to stay at Lizard Creek Lodge, especially for families or small groups.
