“Ski Fernie - Feb 2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We stayed at Timberline Platinum 1 bdrm condo (#524) in the Balsam Lodge. Booked through Skican. We stayed 7 nights and skied 6 days. Unit was very attractive and comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped. Great bed. Hot tub in the building was convenient. Facility was quiet even on the weekend. Front desk service was excellent. Timberline is not a ski out facility but they supplied a morning shuttle (8:45 to 10:45 am) to the hill which was excellent. You can ski in to the property at the end of the day. Mountain Pantry was convenient and there is a good shuttle into Fernie for a night out.

We stayed in a Timberline Silver 2 bedroom condo at Pine Lodge for 3 nights at the end of Christmas break. We booked the day before arriving and it was the only one left , so I wasn't sure what we'd end up with. However, though we prefer true ski-in/ski-out, we were very happy with this Timberline condo. It was attractive, well-equipped, beds were fine, it had (slow) Wifi, and the living space was comfortable. While there were beds for 6 in this particular unit (plus a pull out couch), the common area was smallish and we would have felt cramped with any more than the four of us. We took advantage of the morning shuttle to the base area, which operates until 10:45 a.m., and there's a trail to ski back to Timberline (the trail ended close to our unit in Pine Lodge). After lunch, we opted to drive to the base area and found parking easily (much of the Christmas crowd had cleared out by this point). There's a store just a couple of minutes walk away, which came in handy when my son discovered he'd forgotten his toothbrush and again after skiing when I needed my daily Globe & Mail fix! We didn't realize that there's a pool, which we may have made use of had we brough bathing suits.
A couple of calls made to the front desk yielded a friendly response although they didn't come by the unit within the time frame promised. The only problem we had was when my husband leaned back in his dining room chair and snapped the back off it. Luckily there was a table behind him and he didn't end up on his head. Upon examining the other chairs, we discovered that one had been bolted together in the same spot where his had snapped, another was cracked and ready to break, and a third had already been replaced with a different style of chair. We told the front desk that they needed to remove the other cracked one and they said they would look after it, but who knows if they did. They didn't charge us for the broken chair, which we appreciated as it was clearly a design problem. All in all, we would recommend Timberline, as long as you don't mind being a bit further away from the base area.

Hi Vagabond_dreams,

Thanks for staying with Fernie Lodging Company recently. We appreciate your taking the time to leave a review on your experience. I would like to apologise on behalf of the company and the suite owners for the incident with the chair. I would like to assure you that we have taken measures to remove the set of faulty chairs from the suite and replace with a better quality product. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we look forward to you staying with us in the future, and of course enjoying our outdoor heated swimming pool!

Kind Regards,

We normally go to Kimberly to ski as the accommodations are incredible ski in/ski out on the mountain - we wanted to try something new so this year we booked at fernie. The mountain was incredible, with great conditions, the accommodations were not so great. We booked late but were still able to get a two bedroom, pet friendly condo over Christmas. We were put in the basement of the spruce lodge, I don't know if we were in the basement because of our dog or if that was all that was available. The condo was roomy and for the most part clean but desperately needed a renovation, the beds are terribly uncomfortable. This lodge is approximately a 10 minute uphill walk to the ski hill -The hotel offers a shuttle to the mountain, but they neglected to inform us that the shuttle only runs till 10:45. We will not book at this location again.

Room Tip: When booking if available try and book a platinum package

Dear Rob B,

Thank you for staying with us this holiday season. We appreciate your candid feedback regarding your visit. I would like to take this opportunity to point out to you as well as other readers that we are in fact a Property Management Company, and not a Hotel. As such, we manage privately owned suites and condos in the Timberline Lodges, on behalf of their owners. Unfortunately not all of our property owners are dog lovers like me, and thus not every suite that we manage is considered dog-friendly! As such, the 2 bedroom bronze suite you booked (our most economical on mountain accommodation) was the only dog friendly suite available at the price point you booked. That being said, we value the input regarding the suites' needing a renovation, and have gladly passed along this info to the property owner.

As for the complimentary guest shuttle we offer, this is something that we started this year, in response to guest demand - (see earlier reviews below!). As the quite prominent sign at Front Desk points out, the shuttle runs between 8.45 am and 10.45 am daily. Because we are offering this as a complimentary service, we cannot unfortunately offer an 'on-demand' service as I hope you can appreciate. We find that the majority of people here to ski are heading up to the lifts between 9 am and 10.30 am, hence the hours of operation. Should this become something we receive regular guest feedback on, we will certainly look to adjust our hours of operation.

Again I would like to thank you for your feedback, and to let you know that we have taken note of your suggestions. We invite you to reconsider returning to Fernie, and we are glad that you enjoyed the Mountain while you were here.

Kind Regards,
Juliana Dare

We stayed at Juniper Lodge in Fernie, BC June 29,2012 for a week. It was very quiet during our stay. The condo we stayed in we got through Interval Exchange from our timeshare deposit. The condo is well looked after and is situated at the entry to the ski resort area. It is close enough to walk to the ski area. We walked to the store just 2 minutes up the hill. It has beer, wine and some groceries etc.we stayed in a one bedroom condo with granite counters, full kitchen and flat screen TV too. All the comforts of home! It has a nice jacuzzi tub very close to our unit-610 in the walk out ground floor unit.
All in all it was a nice resort with a short 3-5 minute drive into the town of Fernie. We would return here!

Our World Harmony Run team was passing by Fernie and the hotel management was kind enough to offer us a complimentary accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the rooms were very conveniently located, decorated in a style to respect nature and wooden appearance.
We checked in at odd hours in off-season and everything was smoothly organised anyway. Later on we just had a slight problem to open the room with a key, but when we called the service number, we were assisted within a super quick time.
We can absolutely recommend this hotel for their professional service and convenient location in Fernie mountain resort.

I stayed at the Timberline Lodge "Aspen" for 4 days while skiing at Fernie. We had a two bedroom condo which was on the third floor. It was very clean and tidy and had everything we needed. We could see some ski runs in the distance and had an electric fire place. I was told it was a "short" walk to the ski lift. The "short" walk turned out to be quite a distance up hill which is hard work walking in ski boots and carrying all your gear! We actually drove to the car park everyday with all our gear and then skied all day and drove home. I know I may sound lazy but it just wasn't worth walking through ice and along the side of the road all that way everyday.
The appartments were totally fine and great but if I skied here again I would stay in Fernie town which is only a 10 min drive away. What's the point of staying on the mountain and paying lots of $$ when your driving to the car park anyway?! The mountain has limited bars and restaurants that close quite early and we would drive into Fernie to also eat out so I think that makes more sense!
Fernie mountain resort is fantastic. Quiet, chilled & powder, powder, powder!!!

A group of 6 of us stayed at the Timberline last weekend. We had a 2 bedroom platinum lower level room and it was fantastic. There were 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms, a full kitchen plus a microwave in one room and a large dining/living area complete with fireplace. The whole unit was in great shape, newly renovated and spotlessly clean, and we were able to walk from our patio directly to the hot tub. Off to a great start! There were a couple of improvements needed to make this a great experience though. 1> the queen bed had the hardest mattress I've ever tried to sleep on and I had to request a mattress pad for the second night. 2> there were no frying pans and no toaster in the kitchen which made breakfast a bit of a challenge, but the front desk was able to provide us a frying pan on request. 3> parking was unassigned and overcrowded.

And now to the desk staff..... very friendly and helpful! Our requests for items were actioned efficiently and with a smile. All in all, I would likely stay here again now that I know how to arrange for a decent night's sleep, but there is some room for the resort to improve.

Room Tip: make sure you book a platinum room to get the most recently renovated units
