“An affordable hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

Very clean, spacious rooms, bed was comfortable one of the best hotels I have stayed in the Ottawa area. Staff was courteous and the price was similar to what I have paid before but the hotel is a lot better

We stayed for 6 days in a 2 room suite with a double bed in each room. The beds were very comfortable but the furnishing was sparse and each of the 2 beds only had one bedside table which was annoying. I also found the lighting insufficient, relying totally on lamps. The room itself was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly. We faced the main road but the double glazing meant it was quiet but it did mean we needed to have it closed most of the time even though there was a balcony. I also found 2 coffee sachets and two creamers per day to be too few in a room that sleeps 3. We could buy more at $2.50 a pop.
Breakfast was average, and I found it hard to find healthy things to eat at the restaurant with the exception of one of the Brazilian nights (Fridays and Saturdays I think) which had good food. There was a beauty spa which I used but was difficult to get into. There was one hairdresser for a large salon and if she was doing nails then no one to do hair. The massage treatment I had was very good however.
This is a golf resort and a function venue and is quite large. Unfortunately, the hotel is away from the city and quite isolated. If you don't have a car, you need to take a taxi which is about $30 one way. The only place to walk is along a main road which is not at all pleasant. There is nothing else around. There is no shuttle service which I and others really wanted.
While we were there the WI FI which is free, was mostly very slow and often didn't work at all. It would connect but not load which was very frustrating. It seemed to work at 3 in the morning so perhaps they need a bigger capacity for peak times.
For a Hilton, I think it let down the side although the basics were there. I would not stay there again, mainly due to location.

The suite room was very clean and it had a very comfortable bed, which covers the 2 most important factors in any hotel room. It was quiet and overlooked the golf course, although the double-glazing was blown so the views were distorted. The in-room wi-fi worked well.

We didn't try the Brazilian restaurant on site (which was completely empty on the evening we looked), so we drove for 5 minutes to Westboro Village where there are plenty of choices for good places to eat and to drink. This worked so well that we repeated the same process on each evening of our 3 night stay!

My family (myself , my wife, and 3 of our children ages 3, 6, 8) stayed here from may 23 until may 26, while visiting friends and family. The place was great except for a few things. First of all, check in was quick and easy. We booked a week before our stay and booked the double queen room, as there was 5 of us. There was only two rooms left to choose from and the other was a King room, both same price. Upon check in we were given the King room, with only 1 bed, BUT it had a separate seating area with a nice pull out couch that worked just as fine. The room was great, the bed was one of the most comfortable i've slept in. The hotel is beautiful and on a main road that runs from Aylmer through Gatineau, and close to Ottawa. Great location and easy access. Loved the hotel.
Some of the disapointing, things about this hotel is that the pool area was only open until 9:00 pm friday/saturday nights and only until 6:00 pm sunday nights. For people who are out all day and come back in the evening we barely got some pool time which is important to us and our kids when we book a stay. The pool area was really nice, clean and inviting, with lots of windows overlooking the golf course.
The breakfast buffet which we chose to eat at twice,( being with 3 kids can be a need to eat now ,thing). so we ate breakfast at the buffet. It was average. I thought the eggs were from a powder source and for my kids who eat eggs like candy they wouldn't touch them. The rest of the food was average with an alright selection. The cost was $15 for each adult and $10 for each child. This was a little pricy for the food quality and selection. It would be nice if the hotel were similar to a Holiday Inn express where buffet breakfast is included in the price of the room and rooms are a lot cheaper.
Upon check-out I asked the desk staff to add the stays points onto my Hhonors account, after her spending almost 15 minutes doing so she said it was done. And I went on my way. Low and behold she had never done it and I still haven't had the stays points added to my account.
All in all it was a great stay, in a great place close to everything. We liked the rooms and will use this hotel gavin.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor and had no problems. The Ice machines are on the 2nd and 5th floors.

This is a very nice hotel. We requested a room at the back as we were staying five nights and wanted to be away from traffic noise. This was not a problem. We overlooked the golf course and a added bonus was the windows open so we could turn off the air conditioner and let fresh air into the room. The staff were very nice, the rooms were large and very clean. Parking is included but breakfast is extra so we went to Coras instead. This hotel is very convenient if travelling to downtown Ottawa or visiting the Casino. The only criticism we had was there is no bar in the tub and the tub is very slippery. You must take care when having a shower. We will certainly return to this hotel when visiting Ottawa again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the golf course in the back of the hotel.

This location is great to meet your expectations. We requested a room with a balcony as the weather was nice and we got it without any hassles. Great amenities and service and overall we are very happy with this hotel. For the price of a suite room we would not have even found a standard king for that price. It was amazing.

Just a some quick notes about the DoubleTree in Gatineau: 1) The facility is beautiful. 2) Book the breakfast buffet with your stay. They have a nice selection of fruit/pastries/cereals/hot dishes, etc. Worth the value. 3) Loved the soft bed. My husband that it was a touch too soft, waking up with a sore back, I thought it was great. 4) You will need a car to get over the bridge to Ottawa. Public transit from Gatineau across the bridge is non existent and they do not have a shuttle. Parking in Ottawa is expensive. 5) If you are assigned Room 107 verify that they do not have any events scheduled during your stay. If they do, ask for another room! On our third night the hotel hosted a wedding reception. The music was so loud we were able to sing along to all the songs played during the reception that went into the wee hours of the morning. That was after speaking to management twice, closing both doors and being in our bed with our heads pressed against pillows. Which is why they are getting a "average" rating. I would like to give them "terrible" from that one night but that would be unfair as the other two nights were fine.
