“This hotel lacks space. Has small beds...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2010

This hotel lacks space. Has small beds, phones out of order, very small rooms (15'by8), fake headboards for the beds, heater emits a questionably toxic burning plastic set, hair on the beds (unclean), tap water is brown and resembles sewage, Velcro sheets/curtains, air conditioning doesn't work correctly, horrible Internet connection.

We stayed at the Best Western Cartier for one night on the May long weekend. Everyone at the front desk was very friendly and courteous. The hotel does not have enough parking, which we found frustrating (as we had to park at an off-site lot), but the rooms are clean and sufficient. We paid a bit extra for the room for a "river view". Unfortunately we were given a room on the second floor, so we weren't really able to see the river. We did have a nice view of the Ottawa skyline though, so we didn't bother complaining. The bridge to Ottawa over the Rideau is right across the road from the hotel, which is convenient. The bridge is quite long, so it's a bit of a hike to get over to the restaurants and stuff. But in nice weather, it's a beautiful walk.

Additionally: there are a lot of crazy people that hang around in this area. They do kind of yell and make a scene, and a few individuals did try to stop us (and our two very small children) for a chat. We did find though that the police maintain a fairly regular presence, so it wasn't really that bad.

I would recommend this hotel, but I think next time we'll try to book something in Ottawa.

Close to the Museum of Civilization and the bridge. You could walk over the bridge to the downtown of Ottawa. it's so convenient. Hotel room was spacious and clean. Staff were nice, friendly and helpful. However, the rate didn't include breakfast and parking.

Thank you for your comments and for taking the time to post your review of our Best Western Hotel. It is comments such as yours that allow us to continually improve upon our products and services. It was most gratifying to learn that our continual investments into training, customer service and in-room cleanliness have not gone un-noticed. I do however apologize, for your lack of satisfaction with the parking and breakfast not being complimentary. May I suggest that upon your next visit to the region, you consider one of our attraction packages that do include some of these amenities? Thank you for staying with us.

Yours in hospitality,

After reading all the reviews.. here are my comments concerning my stay. The price of the room ( 2 double beds ) was supposed to be 110$ (Can), used my AAA membership and the price dropped to 98$. wonder if that is why we got a room with a small window, almost too high for my girlfriend to see out of and had to pick up my 5 years old.
Yes the room was a little old looking but that was not too bad, it was a little crampy and there was no place for my son to play in there, except in the bed.
The shower was dripping all the time and the window lock was broken.. easy to get in when you are away, cause the balcony communicated with other rooms. The pool would have been nice if it was not for the fact that the water was really milky ( so white that you could not see the people that were swimming under water not too far away).
You can only get ice from the basement floor, but at least the ice machines are very nice cause it gives it when you press the button, so no nasty surprises in the ice and you feel like you can use it for drinking. Food service is minimal, only for breakfast and diner, but the burgers we got from room service were good. The location was very nice and we did not have to use the car at all for our 3 days stay.
There are 4 stars on the sign outside the hotel.. I would say that it is more like 2 stars for the basic rooms, but who knows, maby the suites are better. Hope this helped a little. When I go back for a visit to Ottawa ( Very beautifull ) I will go to another hotel.

When we arrived the front car park was being rebuilt so we had to park on a bit of pavement around the back.... and got charged 7 bucks for it!

The hotel is really dated, almost 70's, and feels like it hasn't had any work done to it since! From the worn carpets on the floors to the most uncomfortable sofa bed we've ever slept on, the whole atmosphere smacked of "drab"!

On a positive, the staff were friendly.

Finally, someone ought to tell the Chef it's time to change his cooking oil. The fries were the worst I've had for ages.

To top it all, we were charged the same as we would have been at a nice, new place.

When we entered the hotel lobby we thought we had picked a nice hotel since it was nicely furnished. Boy were we wrong! We didn't stay more than a few minutes in our room before calling front desk to ask for a new one. The first room was very small, old and we couldn't even see outside because the windows were too high up. The second room they gave us was better but not great. We had problems getting hot water from the sink, the bathroom was small and we didn't have much channels on tv. Since we stayed at the hotel in January, we couldn't even open the door to go on the balcony and they were completely frosted by morning. The only good thing about this place is that the staff was friendly and helpful. I would only rate this hotel as a 2 stars.

Our family of 4 (2 small kids) and mother-in-law stayed chose to stay at this hotel owing to its proximity to the Museum of Civilization, which we were planning to visit.

The hotel room was about average in size, not terribly attractive, reasonably clean, but not spanking. It felt a little worn. The beds were adequate. There was a pool which we did not use, but didn't look too attractive, surrounded by a concrete deck. Parking was charged extra; there was no complimentary breakfast (what we'd come to expect from our other Best Western experiences).

While this hotel is well-located, I prefer the Hampton Inn in Ottawa which, though not so close to the big tourist attractions, represents much better value.
