Close to Museum of Civilisation, across the bridge from Ottawa, and close to good restaurants, I've been here on several visits to the area. Reasonably priced, and the staff is very friendly (and bilingual).

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night which was selected by our dance studio for a competition that was being held in the area. The hotel staff need to work on their customer service skills- lacking greatly. I guess there was an attempt at some point to make cosmetic improvements to this hotel however the work done was poor. Rooms were so small, I don't think I have ever been in a hotel with such small rooms as well as the hallways-crazy. Parking was non existent. I can safely say I will not stay at this hotel again- not worth the money or the headaches.

Salt pool was clean and the perfect temperature. The noise level was zero even with a hockey team and dance competition group using the hotel at the same time. The view from both windows was beautiful both during the day and night. TV was in good working order and easy to navigate. WiFi was efficient. Towels were soft and plentiful and the bed was warm and soft. Nice to have a balcony and double doors ensured peace and quiet.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in mid February. This hotel was selected for us by the hockey organization so we were several families that stayed here. The location is right on the river in Gatineau and close to Ottawa attractions. There were no stores or restaurants in close walking proximity to this hotel except for a small depanneur behind the hotel.

The hotel has a small parking lot in front and has a couple of other lots behind the property on the side streets. There is also a small indoor parking lot with limited spaces but you need to go around a few side streets to get to it. We parked inside one night. The hotel charges $10 extra per night for parking and they give you a ticket to put in your windshield.

Check-in was smooth. We were given a room on the first floor. Most of the people in our group were also on the first floor. The wait for the elevator was always long so we used the stairs many times.

The room was a bit small but it was clean for the most part. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. I found the bathroom very small. The toilet in the room didn’t work very well and often didn’t flush. We called maintenance to fix it but it still didn’t work well afterwards. We were in a corner room which had very little traffic noise except for the noise coming from the staircase.

The complimentary WiFi worked well. The swimming pool had strange hours and was only open in the evening during the week. It was strangely located where you had to go through several corridors and staircases to get to it.

We ate breakfast twice at the buffet. It was $8.95 for the all you can eat buffet or you could order a la carte from the menu. I didn’t find the food quality at the buffet very good. The wait staff was overwhelmed since there were many customers and another hockey team was also there. It took a long time to replenish the buffet food, clean the tables and get coffee refills. This was actually the only Best Western I ever stayed at that didn’t include a complimentary breakfast.

There were a few issues during our stay amongst our group. There were 2 families that had fuses blow in their rooms. On the Friday night our group was being harassed by an overzealous security guard on the prowl for noise. He kept pacing on our floor and stopping at some rooms to listen at the doors. He kept running up and down the first and second floor stairs. One of the parents on our team who was in a corner room thought it was kids from the other hockey team in the stairwell and was surprised to see it was the security guard making all the noise. I am sure a few in our group complained to the front desk because the next evening we never saw him on our floor and I know he was on duty because I saw him in the lobby.

I found the hotel average and nothing exceptional. It was an okay stay.

We stayed here during Winterlude, and it turned out to be a perfect spot. The ice slides are in the park right across the street, and with the extreme cold weather we had that weekend (-40 wind chill), it was a bonus to be able to go out to the park for awhile and be close to home. The room was great, wifi worked, we had a mini-fridge, coffeemaker etc. The pool is clean, not too large but there were several kids in it when we went, and there was room for all of us. There isn't a hot tub. The pool area isn't huge, and not a lot of chairs if you aren't swimming.
The hotel breakfast (extra charge) buffet was very good, but because it was so cold that weekend, everytime the front doors would open, we'd get a bit of a chill wind even back in the dining area. There isn't much the hotel could do other than to close off the area with more than the low wall that exists there now. Bring a sweater down with you if you're eating there in winter.
I found the hallway outside our room cool as well, but it was one of the coldest weekends all winter, so I won't fault the hotel on that.
Parking is relatively easy; there is a lot in front of the hotel, also on a street in behind, as well as underground parking (but we had trouble finding the entrance to that). The area has a MacDonalds, and a St. Hubert Chicken. If the weather was good and you were up for the walk, you could go across the bridge into Ottawa too. Down the street, very close, is the Museum of Civilization (sorry, I know they changed the name, but it escapes me now). I would say the location is great, and if you get a riverside room for a little extra, you get a lovely view of the bridge, the Parliament Buildings and river.

Room Tip: River view rooms are worth the extra price.

We found hotel very good, clean, comfy bed, quiet room, convenient to attractions. In nicer weather could walk over Alexandra Bridge to Parliament Hill, Byword Market,Rideau Centre and Restaurants downtown. Also a McDonald's around a block away. We ate breakfast in hotel one morning $9. Another morning drove to McDonalds for quick convent breakfast and took it back to eat.
