The $20.00 3 course seemed like a real steal....at first. Three courses, entree, soup or salad and dessert for $20...got me and my friends in the door.
Beach side restaurante with a homey-cafe style decor, informal dining, model boats hanging from the ceiling - nice ! And the seaside view...probably nice but it was dark outside...
Place was busy....good sign.....things seemed to be heading in the right direction.
Glass of red wine with the lamb shank...can't miss !
First course.....yummy! Chicken curry soup....bold, intense, excellent.
Entree - Lamb shank was generous....smothered in rich drippings from lamb....with sparse veggies but carefully chosen - warm, red cabbage- vintage balsamic, one slice of turnip but so fresh, one delicious roasted potato, two string beans, cooked to perfection. The veggies were a tease for the Lamb......but that Lamb? It had a familiar smell....taste.....texture....the sauce was the giveaway.
I knew this lamb like an old friend....but I couldn't remember where we had met before.
When the dessert came...."Would you like red velvet cake or "cream-puffs?" The 4 of us asked..."Cream-Puffs?" "Yes"....replied the server....".just like the ones at Costco"
Hmmmmmm?......then it hit me.....the Lamb Shank !!! It was the pre-cooked, packaged lamb shanks in that heavy rich dark sauce.....Just Nuke it.....and it's ready. My wife and I ate several of those .....exactly the same !! Costco Lamb shanks.....heated up and served with some fresh, artisan veggies.....brillant but devious. I wondered why the 3 of us who ordered Lamb shanks got them so fast......Thank you Costco.....
I'm going down to Costco next week and see if they have the other entrees in Costco...salmon wellington, Jager Schnitzel , Chicken Kiev...
Gets me thinking...??? I wonder how many other restaurants use Costco pre-packaged/prepared food items? They say " It's all in the Presentation"........I now believe them.
Would I go back? Probably not....nobody likes being hooked .....line and sinker.
but it still tasted yummy.....
