“A delight at any time of year”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

Don't go expecting the formal gardens of Butchart; this is a Woodland garden, with trails through beautiful cedar groves, and a wonderful house with tea on the terrace overlooking the flower gardens and lawns and ocean; the rhododendrons in spring are spectacular, and throughout the year there are different trees and shrubs in bloom. It is one of the most peaceful and tranquil places I know, and well worth a visit.

“A garden of beauty.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This a must visit for visitors as well as locals. It is reasonablely priced and they do have yearly membership passes, which is the cheapest way to go if one lives close by. Open most of the year, but some limited times in the off season. They have a event for Halloween and Christmas is full of lights.hery have Music nights in the gardens. Lovely gardens, which are well maintain. They do have a Plant sale about a couple of times during the season it is open. They have a Tea house and gift shop there also. Well worth the visit.

“Garden oasis in Qualicum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

On the day we visited recently, the Milner Gardens and Woodland was very quiet, just us, a few volunteers, and the local butterflies, birds, and dragonflies. Paths winding through a small old growth Douglas Fir forest lead down to the gardens and house, past the gift shop and pool, the latter currently being refurbished as a water feature which will look beautiful when it’s done. At the moment, several pink water lilies are floating on its placid surface, attracting many brilliantly-coloured dragonflies. I love water features, water temples, water palaces – anything to do with water, plants, and sculpture. This pond would look beautiful at night with small candle-lit boats drifting over it …. perhaps one day. The gift shop has some nice locally-made souvenirs and fairly reasonable prices.

At this time of year one of the Gardens' best features, the gigantic rhododendrons, have finished blooming, but a gigantic Chinese Dogwood tree covered in a blanket of white blossoms sits next to a labyrinth recently etched into the grass near the Milner house. Several small ponds with statuary are scattered about the Gardens, some with small fountains. Across the carpet of bright green grass in front of the Milner house you can see the panorama of the Qualicum beach and Coast Mountains beyond. Inside the house a few folks were having tea on the premises where Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and Princess Di once dined. One can see their enormous signatures in the guest book, Di’s scrawl and happy face graphic, written not too long before she died, taking up an entire page.

If you go to the Milner Gardens expecting the Butchart Gardens, you will likely be disappointed because it does not have the vast expanse of flowers and flowering shrubs one will see there. But I love this place: it's peaceful, beautiful, and relaxing. See pictures here: http://lmaclean.ca/2013/07/road-trippin-on-the-island/

“Wild Woodland Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Minler gardens is a rare spot. 72 acres slopping gently down to the ocean. Old growth forest, well marked accessible trails, and best of all quiet solitude. At the end of the trail is a lovely furnished old house to explore. Lunch on the patio looking out over the grand lawn and the ocean is heavenly. The pool house gift shop has a fine selection of locally made treasures. The 10 acres of garden near the house have secrets around every corner. Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, Charles and Di all loved it and so do I.
