“Stunning view and superb location but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

When you consider the ratio quality vs. cost, the hotel falls short. The room was very basic, the washroom tiny with bare necessities, third grade linen. The hallway carpet was frayed and dirty.
I booked the dinner theatre package. Dinner was fine but the production very amateurish.
When I entered the dining room, the hostess announced to the waitress that I was alone loud enough for the entire dining room to hear. As a woman travelling alone, I don't need to be branded. Bar maid was nice and friendly.

Room Tip: All rooms have a superb view but a room closer to the lobby might be better for a single woman trave...

Hi thanks for your review. Your comment will help us improve. For the last 5 years, more than 3M$ have been invest in our properrty (buildings, terrace, rooms, dining room, etc.) and we are currently in renovation. Has a family business, we are proud of the achievement, but also aware that there is always space for improvement.

I can't disagree with some reviewers that the rooms are little tired (need upgrade but ate clean) and they do place priority to local events, but there are so many plus factors it still makes it a delightful stay. The view and location is great - the staff were among the friendliest I have seen - and the price more than fair.

They offer a full range of services - and reasonable prices. It's not the Ritz - but nice enough that it represents good value for the travel $.

The location and the view is amazing; there is a short walk to a beach and a nice park. Rooms are clean but very small. Because of the nice location and good restaurant, the place is very popular for weddings. We stayed here twice on Saturdays, and both times there were weddings in their restaurant. First time there were 2 weddings same time, both restaurants were full and we had to eat somewhere else. Also there were no parking left near the hotel, so we have to park our car across the street. I think the guests of the hotel should have reserved parking, and the weddings guests can park across the street... my 2 cents! We only had a chance to eat breakfast in the restaurant, and the breakfast buffet was good - our daughter enjoyed it a lot.

Hello Irina
Thank you very much for taking the time to review our property. It's a fact that saturdays of july and august are often chosen by the bridegrooms. We are happy to be a part of their marriage, but we understand that it can create some little problem with the other guests. We will use your review on the parking issue to help us improve our services as we constantly look for new ways to improve our guests' experience. As for the trouble having a table at the restaurant, we highly recommend, specially during the hi season, to make a reservation. We hope we will see you and your family again very soon.
Thanks again

There are two other large reputable hotels in RIviere-du-Loup and due to its location the Auberge is not open year round, but if you visit during spring to fall, you really owe it to yourself to stay here. Take the view of the river and make sure to try the patio at sundown. The rooms are clean, spacious and the staff and friendly and professional. You are close enough to all the attractions yet situated away from the noise, what little there is in a small town.

The pool is small but clean and it shares a great view. Make sure to try the ice cream place just down the road.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and take the river view, you wont regret it.

Hello Biz T,
Thank you for the great feedback, we truly are delighted and welcome you back to stay with us again when visiting Rivere-du-Loup. You are right about the room: even if all the room and pavillon are nice, the best are the ones with the view on the river. The patio (6000²f) is accessible to everybody (non-resident as well) and the sunset there are stunning. Thank you again for those excellent comments- very much appreciated.

We stayed at the Auberge on a Saturday night on our way to Gaspesie. The room was OK, view is spectacular when the sun sets. However, we were disappointed to found out that we cound't eat at their restaurant until 19:30 because the restaurant was booked due to a wedding and priority was given to people going to the theater on site. After 7 hours on the road you would expect to have the possibility to not take the car again for dinner especially with a small familly.

The other disappointment was the noise from the wedding which kept us awake all night because there were more than 10 persons partying in the room above of us and we could hear everyone going to the bathroom. We actually had to call front desk to get them to stop partying. You would assume that the Auberge would compensate you for the trouble by giving you some discount but we got nothing.

They also told us that they have wedding receptions most week-ends. Travelers be aware !

We would definitely recommend the Auberge de la Pointe for Families or Couples.

We have stayed at the Auberge de la Pointe in Riviere du Loup several times and have tried all of the different pavilions. This time, we stayed as a family and we saved some money by staying in the pavilion that sits closest to the road and overlooks the city rather than the river. The room was recently renovated and was excellent and immaculate. The area around the pool is the highlight for our family. The pool and hot tub are lovely. The pool is not overly warm - refreshing. There are some toys around for the kids and it never seems to be too crowded. The outside area with couches and gas fire pits is stunning - this has been updated and overlooking the St. Lawrence at sunset is fantastic. We always go for a walk along the St. Lawrence which is just down the hill from the Auberge. I would recommend driving down the hill to the free parking below - the walk back up the hill is not for the faint of heart. We took a picnic to the Parc des Chutes for dinner - the Chutes are a spectacular hidden gem just a 5 - 10 minute drive from the hotel. Well worth the 'hunt'.

The Auberge de la Pointe is the place to stay in Riviere du Loup.

Room Tip: Save a few dollars, sleep in the pavilion away from the river and spend the $$ on drinks and snacks...
