“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

We stayed one night on the way back from Nova Scotia to Ontario. It was easy access to and from the highway. We were very impressed with the room we received. We were in room 100 and it was huge with a comfortable king size bed. The room was very clean with good quality bed linens and pillows. We had an amazing view of the St. Lawrence River and sunset.

The bathroom was very big and clean and equipped with everything you will need for a stopover. It had an outdoor heated pool, a couple of swings for the kids and some adult swings to sit and relax in outdoors.

It had a complimentary breakfast of breads, cereal, fruit, yoguart and beverages.

The property also had fully contained cabins that families with kids could be interested in.

The only negative I found with this hotel was being on the main floor you could hear very clear when someone above showered or walked. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this hotel and I would return again.

Room Tip: Ask for water view.

The best part of this hotel is the view of the St. Lawrence if you get a room on the water side. There is a balcony allowing you to overlook the water and distant hills. We stayed here on route to the Maritimes from Ontario. The breakfast room is small and noisy. We could not believe that people were fighting over what TV channel was on - the first lady putting on a kids show, the second - an American, switching to CNN, and the third person, from Quebec, putting on a French station. This had nothing to do with the hotel...but I guess all the driving can make some people a bit silly. I would not want to stay here more than just one night. The rooms are very basic with an annoying air conditioner that turned on and off every 5 minutes making sleep a bit difficult. Overpriced, but then all hotels in this city are overpriced in the summer when they know people are on vacation and using this destination as a stop-over.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a water view - it will make your stay here memorable.

I normally stay at higher priced properties than this, but this is by far the best I have encountered in the "in transit" mode in Riviere du Loup. I have tried several other hotels/motels there and this is consistently the best of the lot. Clean rooms, spacious, nice breakfast, bilingual staff and nice view from river side rooms. All and all, what more can a traveller "in transit" want. One caution, if you want a hotel whose room windows open, this is not for you. Given Quebec winters I understand the decision of management to double pane the windows but in summer it is a bit problematic.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river are quiter and do not suffer from very bright hot morning sun.

We arrived at this hotel after a very long day of driving. There was a little confusion upon check-in, and our request for a room with a water view had been overlooked, which was not great. The room was basic, but clean. Staff were friendly. The breakfast was minimal, but OK. It's a reliable place to stay, I suspect, but nothing to write home about.

Like many folks, this was "just a stopover" between Ontario and the Maritimes. What a delightful surprise to find a motel that was on the St. Lawrence and you could sit out on your private balcony and actually see the water...very restful after a day's driving. Pool looked great but we ran out of time and opted for a lovely dinner at the delightful little Italian restaurant just a block away. Staff were very helpful with suggestions and attentive to questions asked. Rooms were clean, modern and soundproof --we slept soundly.

Continental breakfast was plenty big with lots of choices in a bright and cheery sunroom.

Room Tip: Ask for the river-view side.

We arrived and were greeted by two younger guys who were more than helpful in terms of explaining the room, showing us where it was and giving us tips on the local cuisine. Our room was remarkably well appointed and out of the last four places we stayed, this tops our list. I've read some reviews that said the beds were uncomfortable and maybe we got lucky or maybe the beds in the main lodging are better? The slight scent of fresh paint makes me think they've recently renovated. It shows.
There is an outdoor heated pool that was clean and well kept and we were happy to have a view of the landscape and the river. They also have small cottages for more privacy if you wish.
A great place overall and the town has a great atmosphere.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room that looked out over the river. I would suggest this as it's quite beautiful...

Perhaps the main hotel rooms are different but since we were travelling with a dog, we were assigned to a 'petit chalet' (small cabin) which while clean and 'efficient' boasted the worst double bed that my wife & I have ever had the misfortune to spend a sleepless night on. A 'nuit blanche' during which every twitch from your partner is amplified ten times by cheap noisy springs. My suggestion is to avoid this place unless you can find no other if you want a night's sleep or possess a particularly tart sense of humour.

Room Tip: avoid the cabins
