“A great find on the mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2011

If you like wonderful home made breakfast (not just a muffin and some OJ), relaxing scenery and warm friendly hosts then this is the place for you. We stayed three nights and could have spent the rest of summer here. With the use of a sauna and hot tub, within walking distance to the golf course and the comfty beds we never want to go. We'll be booking the Solace on the Mountain B&B for visits to come.

Room Tip: for families I would recommend the spacious lower level room, with a private entrance and bath room.

We spent one night in a spacious 1 king-bed room with a large bath. The house is very clean and beautiful throughout. Our host, Darren, is gracious, helpful, and made us a delicious breakfast of chocolate mint tea, bowls of fresh fruit, veggie omelet, nice toast with strawberry jam made by his wife, Tasha. The house is in a quite and peaceful area with a great view of mountains and their tranquil garden. It is a gem!

Room Tip: Book early.

We have just returned from 3 wonderful days as guests of Tasha & Darren at their beautiful B&B. We were 2 couples looking to take a little break and escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and we absolutely found it at "Solace on the Mountain".

We had the Wengen room and our friends were in the Garmisch room. Both rooms are very well appointed, the decor is rustic with lots of wood accents and the king size beds were awesome. Both rooms had large private ensuites with all the amenities. The decor reminded us of the wonderful trips to our favourite places in Bavaria, Germany.

The hospitality extended by both Tasha & Darren was great and Tasha gets rave reviews for her scrumptious breakfasts. We also appreciated her offer of liqueurs on the patio when we returned from dinner one evening.

We spent many hours on the patio relaxing, playing cards and just enjoying the tranquility offered at their B&B. We observed nature at it's best with deer coming close to the patio our first evening there and many more were spotted during our stay.

Darren & Tasha would come out to check on us periodically and see if there was anything they could do for us or to offer suggestions on where we could eat etc. I promise next time I will listen to Darren and follow his recommendations, the only poor dinner we had was at a place he did not recommend.

All in all we felt very pampered and well cared for and I would recommend their B&B to anyone that wants to relax and enjoy their "little secret" on the mountain.

We certainly hope we will have the opportunity to return soon and find "Grizz" waiting to greet us with his tail wagging and Tasha and Darren with their warm hospitality.

We were coming north out of Cranbrook and the GPS told us we could take the 'Gray Creek Pass' from Kimberley (Marysville) over the mountain to Gray Creek. About 2 hours later of certified OFF ROAD driving, runnin glow on fuel, sun and hope, we decided to stop abusing our BMW Touring motorcycle and turn around. By the time we made it back to Kimberley it was dark - we searched for B&B in our GPS and Solace came up as the closest. I thank the powers that be for directing us to Solace as they were a welcomed retreat after our nightmare trip. We arrived after 9pm and knocked on the door. Darren met us to which we sadly asked 'do you have a room open?'. He replied yes and that's when our night rectified our earlier bad experience. Darren rolled out superb hospitality, set us up immediately with some tea and snacks, showed us an absolutely gorgeous cottage-style room with private bath (toilet, sink, shower). He then pointed to the outside covered hot tub (which we almost slept in). Our sleep was AMAZING, breakfast was local, fresh and wonderful (waffles with huckleberrys). Unfortunately we did not get to meet wife Tasha who is rumored to be even nicer then Darren??? Other guests that we met had stayed there previously and were back for more of the same - to be welcomed into their home like family. The home is beautiful, the property is amazing and the hospitality was #1 on our trip. If we ever make it out to ride the rockies again we will make Kimberley a destination - even if it is nowhere near where we are headed. It was a privilege to meet Darren and a welcomed relief after our day.

Room Tip: They are all awesome.

Even though our stay was brief (1 night) we enjoyed ourselves at this BnB very much. Tasha and Darren (and their dog Grizzly) were very friendly and welcoming. The house and property are really nice, and the BnB portion is separate from the hosts' living area (and accessed by a cool little bridge!). We stayed in the Garmich room which had a comfortable king size bed and a big bathroom. We also had a key for our room, which was handy. Downstairs we had access to a fridge, microwave, utensils and an eating area - which came in handy because sadly the German restaurant across the street was closed (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) so we didn't get to try it and instead just snacked on food we brought. In the evening we walked the little path from the BnB to "The Platzl" (about a 5min walk) to look around then got our exercise climbing the staircase back up the hill toward the BnB. Because the weather was nice, we enjoyed breakfast outside on the deck - great coffee, juice and very tasty eggs benedict! I would easily recommend this BnB, and if we find ourselves in Kimberley again we'd stay here again!

The Solace B&B was a pleasant surprise. Darren and Tasha have created a cozy collection of rooms that are identified with different World Cup Venues. A great breakfast and good coffee (2 thumbs up). Location is perfect, 1 minute to the ski hill, 1 minute to Trickle Creek Golf Course. Across the street from the B&B is the best German restaurant, the Bauern Haus. It was a 10 minute walk to the downtown plaza area with lots of shops and restaurants.... great Japanese restaurant!

The owner, Tasha and Darren, are very friendly people, they care about their guests and want to make you feel as happy as possible. They gave us good advices about what to do in the region. We stayed four nights at this unique B&B. The rooms are very clean, large and comfortable, each one with modern ensuite bathroom and free internet access. We had the “Wengen” room and loved it. The breakfasts were absolutely tasty and every morning a new surprise. We enjoyed nice walks through the winter wonderland, the trail starts just behind the Solace, Grizz, the owners dog, was our guide. Great skiing at Kimberley Alpine Ski Resort, only five minutes away from the B&B.
Plenty of very good restaurants at Kimberley. The very best dinner we had at the “Old Bauernhaus” restaurant, just opposite the Solace.
