“Local food at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2014

My husband and I went here to celebrate my birthday while we were visiting Kimberley. We weren't sure what to expect based on the exterior of the building, but went based on the trip advisor reviews. What a great choice! The meal was absolutely delicious, everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. The room is very open, I would have preferred more private seating, but the building holds a lot of history and that in itself is very interesting. Worth the visit!

“Try the Bavarian Feast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2014

The Old Bauernhaus is the dining place of choice for the locals looking for that special meal.My wife and i have dined here many times and always enjoyed the great food and the ambiance of eating in a 16th century building. The Bavarian Feast is especially good for dining with friends, with a variety of foods to suit everybody's choice. The chef always uses seasonal local produce when available. This is a place to dine in, not just eat and you should expect to have a long leisurely meal with lots of conversation. The only drawback is that the seating is often on bench seating which can be hard to sit on without a pad of some sort.

“A trip to Germany without the cost of a flight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2014

We were heading to our hotel and hadn't eaten yet. We came around a corner and saw a unique looking building and saw that it was a place to eat so we decided to check it out...we were glad we did.

The first question we ask when entering a restaurant is are they able to accommodate gluten allergies. We were assured that they had several options and with slight substitutions could make most things work.

The setting of the restaurant is German/Alpine type building with wooden benches and table. The place is simple and yet has a unique charm about it.

The variety on the menu was not huge (about 7 entrees and 5 vegetarian dishes). If you are not familiar with German food you may need help figuring out what you are ordering. The waitress was there to help with our questions and to even make suggestions as to her preferences.

The food was great and the portions were large. Dessert would have been enjoyable if we had the room for it.

The cost for most entree's was in the $20-$30 range.
