“Great location and superior service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

During a business trip to Orillia, i stayed at the Lakeside inn, we had booked for 2 nights. I was expecting a simple motel room. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and check in was very fast.

We choose the lake view room on the main level. Upon entering the room, i was frankly very pleasantly surprised.. Our room has a king size bed, large couch, LCD TV, DVD payer, etc. Room was very well furnished. It was spotlessly clean and had lost of info on local shopping and dining.I would defiantly compare the quality of the room to a Best Western or Holiday Inn.

The location is really amazing. Our room faced the lake and every evening we were treated an enthralling sunset.

As a business traveler, i defiantly appreciated the high speed internet, and manager was very kind in letting us use a printer and fax.

Frankly i could have stayed at any hotel, i found Lakeside inn to be a real Gem, it has a resort like location, top quality rooms, great service, friendly staff and yet 1/2 the prices you would spend at other larger hotels. I ended up booking for a week for our summer Stay-vacation.

Room Tip: i prefer ground floor room due to not being good with stairs.

We have stayed at a couple of motels in Orillia and by far this one I consider to be the nicest (compared to Bayview and Maples) for the same cost. We met the wife upon arrival whom greeted us warmly. We got a king sized bed on the second floor which had a nice view of the lake (would've been a lot nicer if it were the summer). The room was clean, did not smell like a "motel" which was nice. The room is equipped with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and flat screen tv. The space is a little cramped but, it's a motel, you're just there to rest. They had free wi-fi with strong signals.

We will definitely return here again (hoping they have vacancies for us since there are limited rooms available, I believe there are about 15 rooms total).

Room Tip: Choose the 2nd floor for a nice view of the lake.

We found this place on Tripadvisor and were looking for some time away, and it was perfect! It was just outside of Orillia, only minutes from downtown. There was even a Tim Hortons just down the street. The man who greeted us was very polite and helpful, he also was very quick to get on anything we needed. The first night our room was a bit cold, so right away he brought us more blankets and turned the heat up in the room for us, as well as a space heater encase we were still cold afterwards.
The bathroom was clean with plenty of towels, and more were brought to us the next day as well. The microwave and coffee pot were both clean, as well as the room itself. Even for a smoking room it didnt smell like they normally do. The view of the lake from our room was beautiful, even though it was winter. The grounds were kept clear of snow, which was very good because my car rides low.
Over all we had a very good stay, went for two nights and stayed for a third. It was quiet, well kept, and had a very friendly helpful staff. Planning on going back next time we want to get away!

Room Tip: We had a top floor room, so it was quiet.. I don't know about the lower ones. But all face the l...

we choose this motel, because of the price initially, want a place to crash after a concert at Casino Rama, it was close to Casino and at $69 way better that $500 at the Casino.
Owner greeted us warmly, was helpful and eager to make sure were were comfortable. We were asked if we wanted to look at the room first..... which we did and found definitely new renovated bathrooms, and rooms had wing back chairs, ours had Flat screen TV and DVD player, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. so frankly lot more that what we expected, it was very clean. There was free reliable Wi-Fi which was a bonus.

We used their free shuttle to Casino, it was a smooth well run operation, punctual and polite driver. Trip was quick, no stops.
Beds were comfortable, we slept well, and enjoyed breakfast (from Tims) on the balcony, watching boats go by on the lake, Great views. It was so serene and peaceful, the fall colors were at their peak.... we ended up staying a 2nd night. The owners were very helpful and helped me book a canoe rental and gave us great tips on local restaurants.

I have always stayed at a Comfort inn, and this was my first time staying at a smaller motel. Yes its not perfect, but then again the actual location is beautiful and very romantic. Its not 100% perfect, but it is comfortable, with modern amenities and the service from the owners is frankly outstanding.

Only Negative for traveler... I would say is that it is a small motel so they get booked up on weekends.

i plan on returning here when i am passing through Orillia, and would recommend it.

Room Tip: rooms on the upper level have a nice view of lake and private parking in the back.

We stayed here for 1 night in teh summer. I booked well in advance and requested a room with a queen bed. When we arrived, I checked in and paid. The room we were given wason teh main floor which was fine. The room was dirty, smelly and had the oldest furnature. (obviously not onr of the "renovated rooms") I asked for a new room and the owner said that he promised a room to someone else that was thinking of staying the night?? Then offered me a "renovated" room in his living quaters?? We decided to stick with the room we had. Then next thing that went wrong was the carpet started to get all wet. When u turned the tap on or flushed the toilet the carpet in the room got soaked. We advised the owner and allowed him to come into our room when we were out for the evening. Another mistake.....when we got back he had left out door open. Not unlocked...OPEN!!! Luckly non of our personal items were gone, but the next morning the manager offered me 15% off the next stay and game me a measly $5 Tim's card.

I know it's not a 5 star resort, but this place didn't even make 1 star as far as we are concerned. We tried to give the owner the benefit of being new and trying but when there is a sewage issue that he is aware of and still has guests in the room, it's definatly not worth it!

If I could give less then a 1, I would!

DISGUSTING! NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!

during you stay, our main sewer line got blocked. This happened when a guest flushed large quantity of paper towels down their toilet. This was repaired within 40 minutes of us discovering it.
It was untrue to say the toilets had backed up, the toilets could not flush, so every time you tried to flush it, due to blockage it would overflow.
we sincerely apologized for leaving your room open, it was NOT done intentionally, We have to enter 4 rooms in sequence to make sure and test the opening once cleared. You are entitled to you opinion, so we wish you well.

You must answer the answer to the question posed in the title. Read on and make up your own mind about staying here.
The good:
There is a free Casino Rama shuttle on weekends. It doesn't run all day, but runs between approximately 7 pm and 8 pm for a 9 pm show, making 2 - 3 trips to the casino from the hotel. We used the shuttle service and found it to be quite good. The return trips on Saturdays are at 11 pm, 12 am (midnight) and 1 am so you can return right after the show or stay on and gamble a bit, your choice.
There is a mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker. We used all of these during our stay.
Location is great. It's close to the casino (not withing walking distance however) and it faces the lake with a road running between the motel and the lake. Visibility would be good from the second floor as the first floor's view is blocked by trees. We stayed in room 2 beside the office.
The staff was nice.
The disappointing:
The TV in our room was the old tube TV type.
The room was supposed to be a 2 queen bed room, but only one bed was queen sized, the other being a double bed. If you are travelling with 2 couples or 4 people, the one smaller bed might be a problem. If not, then why not pay less and book the two double bed room?
The bad:
The beds were old and hard as a rock.
The lighting was woefully inadequate. We had to ask for an extra lamp.
We paid for a two queen room, didn't get that exactly. We asked for the owner to call regarding our complaint about the beds, and the TV but two and a half days later, no call. We have a phone that lists all of the numbers that have called our phone, and there is not entry for this hotel.

This was a very basic room. We were two friends going to a Saturday night show, and then to a Sunday matinee at the casino entertainment centre, and this hotel is adequate for this purpose. We did think that we paid too much though at almost $100 after taxes. We've stayed at the Maples Motel in Orillia for less and we would rate it better for comfort. However, there is no shuttle to the casino from the Maples Motel.
If you want a romatic getaway, then I would not stay here.
In the summer, the location would be nice but we didn't really find it to be of interest in October in the rain and fog. Your call.

Room Tip: Book the second floor in one of the renovated rooms. Hopefully the lighting in those rooms is better...

Thank you for such a thorough review. your attention to detail is second to none. I do wish to point out, it was not true that we did not call you, you checked out on Sunday. i called you and left a voice mail on your home number on the same day and even send you an email to apologize and address your concerns. You did not respond.
the free shuttle to casino from our location saved you $40 on a cab ride. That is money you SAVED That is a fact, If other motels in Orillia are cheaper, you would spend $60 on a cab ride, from downtown. Add that to the cost of your "cheaper"room, Which was a better deal?
what will you get in a downtown motel? Maybe a flat screen TV? and a nice view of a parking lot and some traffic noise form intersection. Compare that to our location, 1, quiet residential area, 2, Lake side location.
72% of our guests are couples who come to us purely because.... it is a Romantic spot.
We have walking trails, a private dock, rooms with balcony, Sunsets in the evenings, upgraded bistro sets on balcony's, a secluded location, a place to unwind and relax, go canoeing, or fishing from our dock. In the summer we offer fire pits for camp fires, etc

You had complained about October, I regret i cannot control the weather, but yes on a clear summer day and in winter you will get a superb sunset view from our rooms, you can cross the road and sit on our private dock, listen to the loon and watch the geese fly away.
Will you get that at a down town motel? If you appreciate the outdoors, and want a little bit of the cottage experience, a quiet place to relax, then you will like us.

If you are hung up on room sizes or TV type... then there are many other options for you.
