“Professional Theatre in a Sleepy Resort town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

Even though it's fall, the Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque, Ontario has good theatre on offer. This week I saw "Women Who Shout at the Stars," a one woman show at the smaller Firehall Theatre venue next door to the larger playhouse that occupies a former turn of the century canoe club. It was very good value theatrically and a lovely way to spend a cloudy autumn afternoon. I always enjoy going to this theatre - on the beautiful St Lawrence River, a short drive from Kingston, Ontario.

“SUMMER THEATRE - as it should be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Brilliantly & ideally located overlooking the St Lawrence & 1000 Islands they bring you summer theatre at it's best.
No need to go to Toronto or Ottawa.
Certainly no reason to suffer through the inadequacies of the Grand.Accessible TOO.

“1000 Islands Playhouse Springer Theatre -- well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

On Oct. 24, 2012 I saw the play Tempting Providence which was about Nurse Myra Bennett who was the only medical resource on the western side of the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland for many years. The play was very well done and very enjoyable but the playhouse is quite charming in its own right. The Springer Theatre sits right on the water and intermission can be spent on the outer terraces enjoying the beautiful scenery. The staff are very helpful (especially Susan in charge of the box office) and the theatre itself is small enough to be intimate with all seats affording a good view of the stage. Gananoque is a nice town with an interesting Arthur Childs Heritage Centre of the 1000 Islands, a small museum in a heritage building near the tour boat docking area. The Springer Theatre is open only in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
