“The best kept secret...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

The Hotel exceeded all my expectations; I needed a good rest after a really hard tax season and found it in Caribe Playa. The beach is small but cozy anyway; they have a pool where you relax, read or simply take the sun.

The service was excellent and I believe it was due to the owner being constantly there and supervising every detail. The food is prepared "a la carte" and although the menu is not ample, the quality and freshness of the food is great.

I definitely recommend it for a 2 or 3 day stay...

Room Tip: There is no fitness center and no room service but these are not negatives for me. Just bring a goo...

What a sweet, family owned, beachfront small hotel! The food, the beachfront ambiance, the pool, the staff are all deserving of '5's.

Only two negatives: the backside of the hotel faces a busy two lane highway, contributing to some traffic noise wafting into the rooms. The ocean facing louvers are pretty much inoperable, so there is no view from your room! However, chairs are on the beach, balcony, and poolside. The terrace dining area overlooks the beach and ocean.

I found that manually opened front louvers allows the surf sounds to cancel out the road noise.

Plan on staying and eating here for several days...and plan your return visit, too.

We spent one night there with the possibility to stay another, if we liked the place. After settling in our room we noticed a horrible mold smell, that got even worse when you turned on the incredibly noisy air condition.
Outside the view was quite nice, but the beach and the ocean floor was very rocky, so we would recommend wearing shoes. We saw some glas splinters there as well.
For dinner we had to order one hour in advance, for the kitchen to prepare the food. We ordered the Red Snapper and the chicken breast. Both meals were very tasteless, and far from appealing. Possible the worst meal we have had here in P.R. My girlfriend also got a stomach ache from the poorly cooked chicken.
In other words, we left the very next day..
The staff there was quite nice and helpful though.

Location is a little hard to find. Located on a fairly busy highway (3) but the rooms are just a few feet from the ocean. There is some nice sandy areas for lying in the sun however the beach area is very rocky. We love have the windows open at night listening to the ocean waves crashing on shore. The resort also has several hammocks for those just wanting some good R&R. There is a breakfast included but it does not include much and the breakfast purchase options are very limited. Coffee is only available during breakfast hours and there are no coffee makers in rooms. The open air Restaurant has much larger choices for lunch and dinner and optional off site restaurants are at least 15 minutes away. If you are just looking for a place to kick back and relax, this is your place. If you need a lot of activities, better look elsewhere.

Room Tip: There are 3 separate buildings. The building to the west of the office is the newer wing.

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at Caribe Playa Beach Resort and I thought it was great! I am baffled by the negative reviews. I don't understand what people expect for $100/night. Clearly it's not the Ritz Carlton but it exceeded my expectations for the price range. Yes, the rooms are a little dated, but the property is well maintained by an attentive and sweet staff. I noticed the same woman waiting tables in the hotel's restaurant and cleaning rooms - it's a small staff but they are very accommodating and eager to please. The beach right outside the rooms is a bit rocky, but the entire coastline in that general area is rocky. There are sandy beaches for those willing to walk or drive a bit. Alternately, you could enjoy the hotel's small but clean pool area that overlooks the ocean. There are many hammocks available for guests and numerous beach chairs as well. The whole atmosphere is very relaxing! The restaurant doesn't have a huge selection, but everything we had was very good. Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay in Patillas, as long as you bring reasonable expectations! :)

We spent one night in this small hotel on the beach. (room 312) Rooms are simple (with AC) and clean. The best thing about this hotel is just that it is right on the white sandy beach with astonishing views of the ocean ! Free breakfast is a downer since it is not a real breakfast but only coffee and toast. The extra French Toast we ordered with fresh coconut were however great ! If you want to get away from it all (really away) and spend time in a simple hotel in a super location, this is a grdeat place ! Super friendly staff also !

Room Tip: 312 was on the second floor - keeps the sand ou of your room :-)

Small, cheap and awfull room. Not worth $30 a night. Bathroom seems 30 years old, with rust and calcium stains everywhere. The kitchen cabinets were falling apart. The beach is rocky, dangerous and not swimable. Total lack of security in the premises, including the parking area. A busy and noisy street is just 10 feet from the back of all the rooms. There is nothing near this place, just bad karma. Not recommended to anyone, no matter your social status.

Room Tip: "Avoid this place"
